  • The Tank model is created with Adams and the Adams Tracked Vehicle Toolkit. The Cross Drive is created with the Adams Gear Generator Toolkit.

    Curious to see how itd look if you were to pull it with a handle left or right.

    Hello, how exactly does the engine and gearbox transfer power to those 2 different bevel gears? Does transmission have 2 different output shafts that connect to those 2 bevel gears? Also how is it decided by how much of the power is going to be sent to each of those bevel gears, for example when neutral steering only one receives power, going forward other only receives power but when turning both receive power how exactly is this decided?

      One drives the propulsion and one does the steering. I actually don't know how this is done in these old-fashioned tanks.

    This double differential mechanism is complex and thus less reliable. The author omits the most interesting and complex part: how the green axis is powered and controlled. A much simpler mechanism for tanks is when there is a single differential (like in a RWD car) and a brake for each side.

      single diff don't give you natural turn tho. you can only move one track at a time

    • @cheesebusiness
      @cheesebusiness ปีที่แล้ว

      @@weddellseal8414, no. If you apply a slight brake to one track, it will continue moving, but slower than the other track

    How do it rotate its turret?

    • @hskov
      @hskov  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no turret on this model. But if you have a model with a turret, the turret could be attached to the hull with a revolute joint and a joint motion. Then you could turn the turret.

    Very cool, but I imagine a real cross drive is more complicated than that since your model looks like it would break easily.

    • @hskov
      @hskov  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Since this is rigid body dynamics, the size of the shafts and gears is of no concern. The aim of a model like this is to find out the dynamics in the model, and to find the forces acting on the shafts and gears. After that you can start the calculation on how they need to be created to not break.

    Wow you nearly wasted your time.
    You could have at least steered the thing while you zoomed in so we can actually take a look at it functioning.
