Tennis grand slam events have 128 players of eaxh sex, golf majors have 156 players. Yet snooker world championships are stuck at 32 players. The world number 40 is at least as good as the world number 12 back in the 1980's, so it time to increse the fiekd to at least 64 players. But the Crucible is too small to host 64 players over 17 days and maintain the format. So how about a second venue in Sheffield very close to the Crucible that can host the extra matches that allows the world championship to maintain the 17 days with same format in the remaining 5 rounds. Not all matches can be played at the Crucible with a larger field but still just as much would be played at rhe Crucible over the 17 days as has always been the case.
I think the growing number of young, top Chinese players is the biggest threat to snooker in the UK. Once the majors are dominated by them, interest will quickly fade, regardless of venues.
Why would you consider that a threat though?. The more players from around the world the better the sport will be. You want more talent coming in. Raise the game. Snooker could have a more worldwide fanbase. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying it could grow to level like football but why not make it a more worldwide played sport. Genuinely, if you could explain why it's a bad influence and what it is that concerns you?. I'm open to hearing what the negatives are.
It does just go to show how out of touch some of these players are. Kyren talking about feeding his family when he’s just a prize that equates to 15 times the average annual salary for 2 weeks work.
Time marches on and the next generation/s replace some of the old age gen and so on. So in 10-20 years from now when all the people who say, "stay" are about to leave this earth and the game rolls on with more money and diifferent venues around the globe, the new breed of player won't care as long as they reap the benefit of what the past has created. We build on what the past has delivered to us and so it goes on and on.
If the world snooker championship as to leave the crucible then keep the world in the UK the three top championships the the world the UK and the masters can't be played anywhere else apart from the home of snooker
Bingham is so unlikeable, what with the betting scandal and talking like a big-time Charlie despite a relatively underwhelming career. He’s made millions out of it, he can’t exactly grumble that it’s not enough.
I'm sorry but the move is inevitable. Stephen Hendry had one of his friends on his channel a while back who is currently on the tour and the appearance money for players outside the top 16 is pathetic and not enough to make a living on. It's great for the top players who consistently make the business end of tournaments to say stay at the crucible, but there is a litany of players who are grinding away on the tour and struggle to make any decent money. If extra prize money doesn't come from somewhere else then things will have to change.
Lots of top players have complained about the Crucible over the decades. It's too small. The World Championship should move to a bigger and better venue. It needs freshening up. New presenters, new venue, new commentators. Move forward to a new and better era for snooker. Like darts when it moved from the Lakeside to the Ally Palace and became far more successful. Thousands of snooker fans try to get tickets each year but they can't because the Crucible is too small. The snooker world championship needs to move with the times and become bigger and better and that means leaving the Crucible for the good of the game and its future.
The game and nearly all players need to find some charisma if it wants to compete. Hearn is chasing the money, BUT he really hasn’t got the theatrics in him to make a success of this as the game stands. Maybe a couple of big ticket seasons, and then people will just see that it’s not worth it.
Maybe you are right, but maybe you are wrong. If you dont try, you will never know. And also i think that Barry Hearn made dozens of correct decisions over the years. we see the results of his work now. I would better trust him than Shaun Murphy.
@@victors3803 Hearn spent decades cleaning the game up for sure, to the point where the management is geared around what he wanted for Steve Davis. But I think people will expect more for their money; many players today can not deliver that.

Places like anfield, highbury, and crucible should be listed buildings Just glad liverpool never left anfield to chase money. Liverpool could not replace anfield, just like arsenal could not repeat highbury. Money mad arsene wenger destroyed arsenal, thinking like barry hearn, leaving highbury cost arsenal who they were. If this tournament was being played in a 5,000 seater venue and you pitched the 980 seat Crucible, people would think you were barking mad. There is no reason to stay at The Crucible. Shaun Murphy's saying the PR answers because he's head of the players committee, the rest of the players don't care and would rather go to the place with the most money/fans/prestige because... they're sportspeople. I'm a Forest fan. Even I would find it barking mad for them to play the World Cup final at the City Ground over Wembley/Old Trafford/Emirates Stadium etc. People are far too hung up on nonsense.
You're making some reasonable points. Worldwide I don't think Snooker is as popular (I think we all know that) but it can and is trying to grow and that can be a good thing. It's not football and not for everyone, I accept that. There needs to be some level of change. To what degree and how the changes come in that's a conversation that everyone that loves the sport needs to have. Insisting on nothing changing ever isn't realistic. That's why I say people putting up their own ideas is a good thing. Videos like this show that they want people to discuss it and their not hiding what's being talked about.
@@TheycallmeMrWonka they've tried to promote this as though players are 50/50 in the move/stay camp. I think the only player banging the "stay" drum is Murphy... because he has to. Why isn't there a ranking event in Belgium when there are three Belgian players - all young - on the tour? Why have we not tapped into the Australian market? Why does the women's tour have 6 events in 8 countries (including in Belgium and the USA) whilst the men's tour has 17 ranking events in 3 countries? More could be being done imo

Yes they should stay it’s all about the fans at the end of the day but the players don’t give a shit to busy filling there pockets
Please don't split the room anymore, extend the tournament give the players more time.
The reason it won’t take off in Saudi it’s to hot to play uk is ideal to play
Leave it at the Crucible 👍🏽
STEPHEN LEE likes the crucible burger van too much
I want it to stay at the crucible it’s the home of snooker 🎱 but if it does move away I hope it at least stays on these shores , I’d rather it go to Ireland or the 02 arena rather than abroad
Personally I'm not a fan of the Chinese influence on snooker.
Steve has got Hearnitis.
Bingham is so unlikeable, what with the betting scandal and talking like a big-time Charlie despite a relatively underwhelming career. He’s made millions out of it, he can’t exactly grumble that it’s not enough.
Love you for your 19 years at The Os, but you're wrong this time Bazza
I'm sorry but the move is inevitable. Stephen Hendry had one of his friends on his channel a while back who is currently on the tour and the appearance money for players outside the top 16 is pathetic and not enough to make a living on. It's great for the top players who consistently make the business end of tournaments to say stay at the crucible, but there is a litany of players who are grinding away on the tour and struggle to make any decent money. If extra prize money doesn't come from somewhere else then things will have to change.
Hearns only care about money
Lots of top players have complained about the Crucible over the decades. It's too small. The World Championship should move to a bigger and better venue. It needs freshening up. New presenters, new venue, new commentators. Move forward to a new and better era for snooker. Like darts when it moved from the Lakeside to the Ally Palace and became far more successful. Thousands of snooker fans try to get tickets each year but they can't because the Crucible is too small. The snooker world championship needs to move with the times and become bigger and better and that means leaving the Crucible for the good of the game and its future.
The darts is different it’s just loads of poeple getting pissed who don’t even care about darts. Snooker needs more concentration than darts
Steve Davis reminds me of Francis rossi
After the way Kyren acted in that last frame they should consider holding it in a local nursery.
Money mad people ruin the fun and nostalgia of sports
Barry hearn is a money mad vulture, who does not give a damn about what things like the crucible mean.
Barry is the typical agent, who brian clough hated, as he knew they were vultures.
I have not seen snooker this century, but i still remember when young watching the crucible and the world championships.
Just glad those who owned liverpool stayed at anfield, and understood what anfield meant to liverpool was more important than getting a few thousand extra seats in a game.
Places like anfield, highbury, and crucible should be listed buildings
Just glad liverpool never left anfield to chase money. Liverpool could not replace anfield, just like arsenal could not repeat highbury.
Money mad arsene wenger destroyed arsenal, thinking like barry hearn, leaving highbury cost arsenal who they were.
Just glad liverpool never left anfield
Like i said, certain places in sports should be listed buildings, as they mean more to the sport and fans, than people know.
You can see why brian clough hated agents, and barry hearn is just a vulture, who does not give a damn about what sport means, other then money making for people like him.
Playing the world championships in saudi arabia = total joke
Now I wonder how many finals were actually won on the black or at least ended with a black ball potted.
Sheffield council pay £34 million to wpbsa to host the tournament
It shouldnt stay it deserves a better home with more seats and better venue its world championships, in the end the investors will have the most say and final word end of story in the end snooker is a business and needs to be profitable nostalgia isnt going to make money for the sport or the players. Barry bang on the money and people need to start living in the real world and not fantasy land.
if moves that's snooker finished
If someone said play in Saudi Arabia for £5million first prize, ehod say no.
no wonder players are taking bribes to throw games, putting the game into jepordy on purpouse
Some things don't need to change!!! The bigger venue is ally pally. Nobody is breaking Shakespeare's globe 🙄
If any of you was in top 64 just getting by with cash if ya do well you would be begging for this lol money is the key and obviously uk cash wont double ever
64th ranked player on the money list this year earned £43,000, which is more than he up average. That’s prize money only. They earn extra on top with sponsorships deals etc
@lukebarton5075 yea but like I said that's only decent money for anyone they can at least double that if the big changes come in ya would be mad to not wanna double your income for the few years you might be in the top 64
i dont trust a word Barry Hern says
Coin toss😂
The hearns are saudi mad
Snooker Loopy.
Hearn is a business man full stop he will ruin snooker for the dollar I have no problem with players earning more money but leave places like the crucible and triple crown alone please
the bbc will go where the money goes, it might move away.....but i say leave it there....
I just hope it stays in England
I think the two-table setup has had its day.
TAKE THE MONEY
Do we really give a shit, money will make the choice
Price tickets is a rip-off
Quite unbelievable - A break away tour !!!! - Get real, if there is one thing this 2024 WSC has shown is that players outside the established top 8 are only really watchable to snooker purists
There is every reason to stay at the crucible. Hearn is a hungry count.
@@johnmc3862 give me 3 reasons. I ask for 3 because I know one of the reasons you'll give will be "because of the history" 🙄
@@TheycallmeMrWonka they've tried to promote this as though players are 50/50 in the move/stay camp. I think the only player banging the "stay" drum is Murphy... because he has to. I think the rest would be more than happy if it moved and they were in a bigger venue with more eyes and better conditions.
I think snooker could be doing more to grow too.
@@johnmc3862 5 days later. Not one reason given. Sums it up. All mouth no trousers
What's with all the Freemasonry hand-signalling from Steve?🤔
Sentiment in sports is vanishing. Snooker has now players from many parts of the world. Each country will claim a right to stage it like it or not. Even top Tennis will one day be in danger of being played on hard surface only. So watch it Wimbledon.
It's an absolute disgrace that the snooker tables they used at the World Championships are made in China and not UK
barry hearn talking like his boxing promoter son...complete hypocrite who will leave to go to anu dhabi,
both hearns should be in politics, complete bullshitters
The game had a bum as champion last year, and now Wilson (and the less said about him the better). I absolutely hate what Hearn and his glove puppet Davis (aided and abetted by the loathsome Clive Everton) have done to our game. Joe, Fred, Pulman, Reardon, Spencer, Charlton, and Higgins, and then White. The great line ends there. The game is in ruins, and all we are left with is the self-pitying whining of O’Sullivan and the idiots on the BBC. Forget it.
Do you do parties?
@@johnmc3862 Yes, but only for the winners and runners-up in the UK championship up until 1979. But your comment is funny, and I am genuinely grateful for it.
Snooker lost 95% of its appeal when players were no longer allowed to drink or smoke at the table.
Kyran talking shit about he’s got mouths to feed.. he drives a Bentley and a Range Rover.. I can’t afford to drive any car.. hes a great player but he doesn’t live in the real world
Money talks and shit walks.
