- Today I ate Sri Lankan for 24 hours and yes I enjoyed every bit of it. Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, is an island country in South Asia.
Sri Lankan food is one of the most underrated cuisines world wide. Most of their food consists of rice and curry. Well known for its spice, it’s fragrant and deliciousness.
I started of my morning with lentils, bread and sambal, with a side of medu vada. Topped with a delicious tea.
For lunch, I had kottu with fish roll and mutton rolls. As the Kottu was too spicy I had to cut my “lunch” in half.
And complete the rest at a well known takeaway place called Sambal Express, where I purchase a delicious mutton curry with a cold tropical drink.
For dinner I had a variety of meals which included: lamprais, chicken biryani and rose lassi. Ending the night with Wattapad, Hoppers and a cup of tea.
Yes, I did try sweet paan and yes it was absolutely ….
The next day I went to Hoppers in London which was 10/10!!! I brought egg hoppers, chicken curry, masala paneer and masala dosa, with a side of daal and paratha, this was my favourite because it was authentic and delicious.

You need to mix the curry with the rice by hand and then eat it. It makes a Hella lot difference. Eating by hand is the best

Thank you for trying sri lankan food. It's so exciting to see people from other countries enjoying our food. (dhal curry is a must. We eat dhal curry and coconut sumbal almost everyday. we can't live without those. Also we use coconut milk as an ingredient in most of the sri lankan dishes) ❤️😌

Makes me so happy when a foreigner enjoys Sri Lankan food. Our food is fool of flavor and full of spices which are very very healthy.. Most of the time we eat loads of vegetables and we do have many snack and breakfast options as well.

Our food is the most underrated food in the world.Due to Colonisation and influences of many different countries, our food culture is a concoction of unique flavours. Due to the spice level it's not for the faint hearted 😊. All our food have medicinal properties btw. Glad u tried our food. Bilaafiya. The paan is basically for digestion. U chew the whole thing including the betel leaf,u dont swallow it u spit it out.
I am South African, I'd love to try it, unfortunately I don't know of any places in SA where I can find Sri Lankan food😢 hopefully one day

You are only supposed to eat a little bit of the red stuff with the leaf not all at once. Very small bit with the leaf. The leaf offsets the oversweetness.
You eat the green leaf for the paan too!!! Try the bengali version 😍

(btw, in Sri Lanka, there are only around 10% of Tamil people. Only they speak Tamil. The majority around 80% are Sinhalese people. Their language is called Sinhala. Tamil & Sinhala sounds very different. Because, Tamil is an Dravidian language which came from South India & Sinhala is an Indo Aryan language which originated in Sri Lanka itself.)
There is around 40% tamils including the Muslims.. so it's always 50/50

Btw Dhal curry (lentils) are paired with Crispy bread (we call them Roast Bread) and the orange chillie chutney was for the Uludu-wadey (donut ring sort of item made with black gram),, Paan indeed is tobacco although there's non tobacco sweet versions,, and when ordering Kottu try mild spiced varieties such as mixed veg/chicken/cheese,, and u clearly hated da coconut sambol (orange spice grated one on lunch time) hahaha,, damn u didn't u like da texture of da famous watalappan too...glad u enjoyed da sweet hoppers though... u gotta visit us in SL girl,,
