Next time you should try string hoppers with chicken curry and dhal curry mix with together and try. Kottu roty normally going with chicken curry. Not with dhal curry.
Yup you can have the string hoppers mixing with both dhal curry and chicken we normally don’t dip we just mix it altogether with coconut sambol which is soo good. And yes koththu you can mix with the gravy specially the chicken curry. Next time try rice and curry and hoppers. Have a nice day

Hey, I'm from Sri Lanka. First of all thank you for trying Sri Lankan foods. The scraped coconut mixed with spices is called "pol Sambal" in Sinhala. Pol is the sinhala word for coconut. It is made with scraped coconut. Basically you mix onions, salt, red chillies, lime etc. with the scraped coconut. The dhal curry is indeed Lentil. It's red lentil actually. We cook red lentils in coconut milk along with spices to make that curry. There's another dhal curry known as "kadala parippu" in Sinhala and it's one of my personal favourites. It's called split chickpeas in English. I recommend you trying different types of Kottu as all of them have different flavours. ALso you can mix that chicken sauce with Kottu. But it'll make it spicier. Usually they put that chicken curry sauce when making Kottu. That's how the pieces stick together. Kottu is made by cutting Parata into pieces and mixing with a vegetable and meat of your choice along with a curry sauce like chicken/beef/mutton etc. Dolphin Kottu is made with egg roti instead of plain parata. You should also try the plain parata and egg roti. I've heard this story from elders about how Kottu was introduced. When there were leftover Paratas in restaurants they couldn't sell it in the next day as it becomes kinda dry and only fresh Paratas tastes good. So they decided to cut those leftover paratas and mix it with vegetables and sauces.( Like using leftover rice in fried rice ig) And the Paratas didn't taste dry anymore and this new dish became popular among Sri Lankans quickly. Some restaurants offer a paste called chillie paste to mix with Kottu, fried rice etc. It's made with dried baby shrimp and chillie flakes. It's kinda spicy too. Some other popular Sri Lankan dishes include Fish Ambulthiyal, Black Pork Curry, Hoppers( These tastes so much better if you can eat it while hot and crispy),Batumoju ( Brinjal pickel), Sri Lankan mixed pickel ( Sinhala achcharu), Lamprais, Baby Jackfruit curry ( Polos ambula), Kiribath and lunumiris, Pittu ( kind of a steamed rice cake) with lunumiris and coconut milk P.s. When you are trying these curries and pickles you have to combine it with rice. Desserts include Sri Lankan pancake( made with caramalized coconut.), Kalu dodol, wali thalapa, pani walalu ( Kinda looks like Jalebi), Aluwa, watalappan Short eats - Sri lankan patties, Egg roti, Cutlets, Murukku, Ulundu wadei, Parippu wadei You can also order an ordinary Sri Lankan meal and try it. For an example, Rice with Fish Ambulthiyal/ chicken curry/ Black pork curry , Gotukola Sambal, Bean stirfry, Brinjal pickel, Dhal curry , Fish cutlet, vegetable salad
You should try Egg Hoppers with mutton curry Yellow rice with Seeni sambal (Caramelized onions) and cashew nut curry Milk rice with beef curry Lamprais or Lumprice As sweets 🍬🍭 Konda Kawum (Oil cakes) Kokis Aluwa Mun Kawum Aasmi Coconut toffy
Guys the correct way to eat the string hopper is by mixing the dhal curry, chicken curry, and the coconut sambal well with string hoppers using your fingers. It taste so much better that way! Also you should try rice and curry. We eat rice and curry everyday here in sri lanka. (The best rice and curry combo would be: yellow rice+ chicken curry+ brinjal moju+ cashew curry+ dhal curry+ devilled potatoes along with a raita 🥰. Tastes so good!!)
12:56 He just feel like calm after eating පරිප්පු.. Ya man we all eat Parippu all the days and we feel like calm.. ☝that's the exact feeling🙂🙂Love from Sri Lanka..
Add some chiicken gravy for ur kottu roti while eating for extra flavor , it adds a juicy and tender flavor (if u do not want it dry) U can eat the pol roti with both dhal n chicken curry and same goes with string hoppers
The national dish of our country is "kiri bath" in sinhala or in english "milk rice" we usually have it with sugar and "lunu miris". lunu miris is a spicy paste made with onions and spices. also sinhala is the main language spoken in Sri Lanka, we also speak in tamil and english!
Why didn't you try string hoppers with dhal curry... dhal curry+coconut sambola+chicken gravy+string hoppers = it's heaven...😋👻🤌🏻 And you need to mix the food well...😌❤️🇱🇰 Thank you very much for try in our foods...🍛🫶🏻
yes you can combine with other( string hoppers dhal curry+chicken +coconut sambal) all mix together and eat. most suitable with kottu roti with chicken curry

I'm from sri lanka, When a Sri Lankan says something is spicy, they really mean it.
Well that's true if foreigners eat the food we eat idk wht the hell will happen😂
Haha fr!
Yeah this is so true. Try it guys ❤

Omg yayyyy I’m originally Srilankan Tamil so I love this video- thanks guys
Add some chiicken gravy for ur kottu roti while eating for extra flavor , it adds a juicy and tender flavor (if u do not want it dry)
U can eat the pol roti with both dhal n chicken curry and same goes with string hoppers
The national dish of our country is "kiri bath" in sinhala or in english "milk rice" we usually have it with sugar and "lunu miris". lunu miris is a spicy paste made with onions and spices. also sinhala is the main language spoken in Sri Lanka, we also speak in tamil and english!
Bruh, who in their right mind have kiribath with sugar?
Machan, I haven't seen any sane person eat kiribath with sugar 🤣
some small kids do, they can't handle lunu miris it's too spicy, so they eat sugar with kiri bath
