That’s kinda wild, I got the Revell Gato kit and was looking for a boat to base it on and picked the Redfin. The Manitowoc boats were strong and powerful.
At 2:00 is the Control Room not the Con. The Conning Tower is actually above the CRoom. Above the Con. is the Bridge enclosed by the Sail. Also, looks like pencil was left on the floor of the Control Room under the Helm. Done for scale maybe?
Fantastic place to visit! Lots to see and lots of hands on stuff too! Not to mention the USS NAUTILUS is there to go through! Hope to go back again some day!
Con refers to the "Conning Tower", the room just below it in the main pressure hull is the Control Room referred to as "Control". The Bridge is the open air surface conning station in the "Fairwater" That would be were the OD, JOD and the Lookouts would be when the boat is on the surface. The Conning Tower or "Con" is the boats "attack center" and is the location of all the torpedo fire control, sonar, radar, periscopes and the ships primary steering or helm station, the Control Room or "Control" just below is the location of the diving controls, secondary helm , high pressure air and hydraulic controls and navigation etc.
Brilliant craftmanship&have that scale too but NOT the cutview version;so I bought a$500 German (same scale&cutview) fabricated by Trumpeter;adore yours too🌵🎅
Very nice - thanks a lot for making this video. I've seen pictures of this display - awesome to see the whole thing. Question ; To the right of the ward room, the officer's mess there seemed to be a small room - can you identify it? I know the sound / radar controls where in the control room, and it seemed like the radio room was immediately left of the control room. What was that small room? perhaps the captain's quarters? Very nice video - ty.
Stbd side aft forward battery co stateroom then ships office, then officers washroom under the deck 124 battery cells. After port side CPO bething, then officers staterooms, then wardroom with a small wardroom pantry. Hey, none business 88 sailors go to sea and 44 couples come back. DBFE - diesel boats forever.
commercial air condition was invented in 1902 not the 1950's the Gato class submarines were equippted with air condition. If you don't believe me just google it.
When diesel electrics are submerged, running on batteries, they didn't wastes juice on AC, or if in combat, didn't need the extra noise. I served on one.
Reminds me of an old joke probably inspired by "hot bunking" to save space where two men alternate using the same bunk - one sleeping while the other is on watch. The Captain calls the crew together and says, "I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that you all get to change your shorts today. The bad news is, Wilson you change with Smith...Jones you change with Carlson ... ... ...".
This is a model about 20 feet long at the U.S.S. Nautilus museum in Groton, CT. This is a WWII Submarine, so I betting it's a fair bet that being gay was a well kept self-secret. Women have not been allowed to serve on Submarines in the US Navy or the Royal Navy until last year, 2009-2010.
He did make a few mistakes in his presentation, mainly and calling the control room the con and calling me conning Tower and attack Center, though there modern terms at a given the nuke boats
Fantastic model. Gato and Baleo Class are some of my favorites. I build virtual models of them in a simulator game called From The Depths.
I have several photos of the Ss Clamagore Balo class submarine if it helps.
Is the second submarine class correctly named "Balao"? I ask to confirm for accuracy.
My granpa served on board USS Redfin (SS 272), a Gato-class submarine, during WW2 🇵🇭

@@johnbeauvais3159 good subject to build a model of.

Memory escapes me at the moment. There was a Capt. In Ww2 whom commanded in a fashion similar to the model. Great workmanship. Thanks for sharing.
I loved that Museum
Whilst modern subs are masterpieces of engineering, they're ugly as sin. The old diesel boats had beautiful lines.
excellent job
Damn, 21 years in the armed forces and I never got stationed at an all guy unit where everyone just wore briefs. 😋😂
The "con" refers to the conning tower. It's the "bridge" that is below it in the main part of the ship.

@2:07 Man that is one BIG pencil. 3 feet by my Mark 1, uncalibrated eyes!
That scale is probably about 1:32 or 1:24 I think

The small room just forward of the Ward Room should be the Ward Room Pantry.
@@kenbadoian2476 lmfao.
Did they really chill in shorts all the time?
What company made and issues this kit? What scale is it, please?

@@robertlemmon9186 and with all that electronic equipment heat is produced. The a/c did little but help keep said equipment cool at best.

what he called the con is the control room, and what he called the attack center is the conning tower...
modern submariner using modern nomenclature terms
Where is this model please and what scale is it-?
Is there any non commission submarine of the Gato Class are still intact today. I mean a navy submarine memorial museum, of this type of naval vessel.
@@sweettee7624 thank you.
Uss Cavalla in Galveston Texas
There are a number of preserved Gato's, Silversides in Michigan, Cobia in Wisconsin to name a couple... check out Museum Ships website

The model is 1/6 scale 52' long
they are all in shorts?
no room for clothing or shoes, evidently.
Yours might be a larger scale than mine🌵🎅🌵
Judging from the shorts only uniform it must have been hot.

6/27/24 was the first day I ever heard of Gay Tow Submarines. Well, the ocean does have a reputation for drawing a good number of gay people.
Not sure what kind of boot this is. A lot of shirtless men 🤪
frank groot, It gets hot inside a submarine. American subs have air conditioning. Some crewman go shirtless and shorts. Some don’t.
Is it a Gay crew? All in undies.
You would be in shorts to in that heat !!!
