After listening to the mandatory Friday night recording of Cult Messiah Bruce D. Hales, and before attending the mandatory Saturday morning Cult Bible Reading, PBCC “sister” Andrea Becker took the time to record this groundbreaking podcast with Get-a-Life’s Cheryl and Lane.
Andrea Becker (originally MacKinnon from Montreal) lives with her husband Lyle and two daughters in the German town of Bad Endbach. Andrea tells how their belief in the Brethren‘s doctrine was shaken by the blatant dishonesty of the system and the cruel treatment of leavers. Together with her husband, they planned to leave rather than bring up their daughters in a cult that treats women as inferior and voiceless servants to the men. With their plans all made, but kept entirely secret from their unsuspecting local brethren and their many relatives in the cult, Andrea recorded this interview telling of both the elation and the fear that filled them as they faced their D-day - just one week ahead.

Riveting!! Andrea's bravery and clarity about leaving is awesome. Well done Lane and Cheryl.
My first year at the PBCC school, they told us about a "parade and carnival" they were having. That sounded like a fun thing to bring my grandkids to, as there is not much like that in our small town (I was SO naive! lol). As soon as I said to my PBCC school leaders (called CA's) that I would love to attend, they immediately responded that we could attend the parade but not the carnival (pretty much a money laundering thing,) or the meal. It was SO SKETCHY!

Andrea - It was so great to see your face! It was like looking at your mom. When I was a teenager I used to run around with Gord & Bette. Miss them! I left in 2000, goodness knows whatever stories they told about us when we left. I straight up told them that we went to meeting to talk about Jesus not "our beloved brother"! Guess that was why they really had nothing to say to counter that. Life hasn't been easy, but it is so fulfilling. Blessings on you & your kids and I hope that more of your family sees the light. Great to hear your story Andrea 🥰we got withdrawn from a similar time to you guys for choosing to leave. Enjoy the withdrawal and freedom it's a privilege you can never replace. It's sad to lose family but it's their choice to stay brainwashed..it takes guts to leave but it's freedom from Hell in there. There's real Christians and lovely people in this big world thankfully. I was 37 when I left with 7 of my 8 children. Your podcast triggered so many memories. I was so unhappy. I had tried all my life to fit in there and could not.

It is good she is happily married or the culture shock of being alone in the 'world' could be overwhelming.
Yes it is a culture shock to anyone who leaves, but I was out of the cult for 3 years when I was a teenager and that has massively helped me adjust now. I went back because I missed my family but didn’t see thru the cult at the time. Quite a different story now!! 😊
@@cestlavie4584 That's great to hear. I was a Jehovah's Witness for twenty years before leaving in 2003, and my adjustment was really bad. From having all my friends in the one basket to having none, and them not talking to me was rough. I was in a consumer setting too so it was obvious that they'd wait for me to leave the desk before getting served. That must be much worse from an Exclusive Brethren setting which from my reading would seem to far more insular and strictly demarcated. You have also great friends around you too and that is a blessing. Excuse me for wondering but may I ask whether you still have a faith at all or have you shifted to the Open Brethren or some other movement. For myself I threw the baby out with the bathwater, and if I were to associate with others again it would definitely be mainstream, and probably very liturgical so I can not engage with dogma or heavy behaviour modification. If you don't want to respond to that I understand. Transition can be a long road even if the road is leveled somewhat. I wish you well anyway.

Years later it’s no different,it’s just not new!! it ‘s one for all all for one we all are responsible! Own it ! We ALLOWED not agreeing but did allow and now preserve yourself then maybe your family are preserved!

Such a good video because it's pbcc now! A lot of interviews are from years gone by and so much changes or rules change so quickly there. Campus & Co etc. Even the comment about breaks. The expectations of breaks have increased 10 fold in the past 5 years. The wealth in pbcc is growing exponentially as they all are selling off their businesses, and being part or that side of the table, they all cook the books prior to selling too.

"The brethren need to spend more time in nature." Never were more truer words said Lane. I spent time in nature watching birds etc. and was told by the local leader that I was a "man of the field." LOL
What are the ""Breaks"".??
On Sunday after the main meeting, all the brethren visiting from other places will be allocated at the host brethren's homes for a noon meal.
