    Great point.

I'm now confident you and other youtubers (not all, but those that seek to help spread the gospel and raise up a desire to grow) are doing something right. I do not listen to John MacArthur, but I overheard him in one of his (I assume latest) sermons, that my dad was listening to, basically bad mouth youtubers as a whole and the people who listen to them, specifically the people who listen to youtubers as "proclaiming themselves to be wise, they are fools who know nothing" (paraphrasing). That's high praise coming out of his mouth, and I know he was talking about youtubers because he said the word.

This is the perfect video to share my thoughts on regarding simplcity complexity and clarity. With all the analogies you used I would like to add what I'vew been thinking for a few weeks or couple of months regarding your content and complexity and clarity. I watched a video titled "Why Some Films Can Never Be Remastered" sometime ago and it made me think about how we approach scripture. The earlier StarWars movies were captured on 35mm film strip and this simple filmstrip can be mastered, remastered and remastered. The 4K and Full HD remastering of StarWars was on a simple 35mm strip and the complex processes to capture the film in that high of a resolution which allows us to watch the movie in higher resolution. The BluRay Starwars films were the 35mm film strips being scanned into 1920x1080p and the 4k strips are scanned into 3840x2160p resolution. All that information is coming from the 35mm film strip that the film was shot on. Rendering film flattens it into a single image and there's not much you can do with a rendered frame and StarWars I-III were captured digitally on a 2K resolution camera and rendered in 2K. So I-III cannot be seen more clearly than 2K because of the rendering, and to increase Resolution we would have to rescan the shots into 4K and render them which will take a lot of time and money to do.
What I see Christianity has become today is a film strip locked away in a warehouse where copies of vhs tapes or dvds are widely distributed among church and people are missing a lot of information to help them see clearly, this includes screen tearing, interlacing, pixellation, too much noise grain in scenes with little to no light. Even worse is that people scan the vhs tape or dvd to their own device and they can have a lesser version than what they were given.
You, Kevin I see as someone who goes to the warehouse to get the scripture captured on the 35mm strip and finding all the latest tech to be able to scan the scripture and make a master in 4K, 8K, 16K for future generations so when people are able to afford tvs and devices that can output native 4K, 8K, 16K ect they will appreciate that someone like you has captured scripture in such a high resolution, not only that but you are encouraging other Christians to go to the 35mm of scripture and make a master of that at the highest quality resolution they can so others can see the scripture more clearly.
The thing about God being measured is that no one knows how high, how wide, how deep it goes and is the equivelant of trying to count all the grains captured on a frame of film strip, people want to count the interlaced lines and pixels they can see on the TV screen and think they have their heads wrapped around God and scripture, but scripture isn't about how mant interlaced lines or pixels that can be seen, its about how people capture or master the scriptures by the resolution they scan it, but not just that but colour correct, redo effects, maybe even recapture some scenes, and the goal of all this is to present scripture in a way that people can see it more clearly.
Happy New Year and may you and Paula have a blessed 2024!

I've been thinking about the analogy of the coal and the diamond, and it seems to me to trade in generalities. If you specify what is meant by 'they're the same,' it quickly falls apart. For example, if I said, 'Me and the neighbor's dog are the same thing,' and by that, I mean we're both going to die one day, that's fine. However, unless I delineate what is meant by what I said, the statement is practically worthless. But you could say i'm just missing the point of the analogy which is fine.

    • @KevinThompson1611

Neither is this phrase to be used as evidence for the questionable doctrine of divine simplicity, which is often argued by those of a Calvinistic persuasion, in my limited experience anyway. It says that God is indivisible. Great.

    So... I have a question.
Paul uses terms (and Peter and John as well) like
Romans 6 for instance "knowing" that you were crucified with Christ.
How can one be in grow mode of being... instead of having if Paul is telling us to operate under the assumption and acknowledgement of "knowing" a certain proposition
Like I died and was risen with Christ...
I mean... isn't "having" that axiomatic certainty the basis on growing in sanctification?

    • @KevinThompson1611
      @KevinThompson1611  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Propositions are an essential and valuable form of communication. Unlike the modern apostate church where knowing something is the goal, especially the “right” or “orthodox” thing, they are used by Paul as a basis to DO something a certain way and with a certain mindset. I’m working on a slide deck for Philippians right now. There are a lot of propositions in there, but ultimately, they are aligned in some exemplary narrative structures to provoke the reader to DO something.
      Philippians 4:9 (KJV)
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, DO: and the God of peace shall be with you.
In Mammon church, “knowing” something is more or less the accomplishment: Ideological colonization of the mind. But in the WAY that is Christ, knowing something is simply a basis for what should follow: appropriately contextualized action.
In mammon church, “knowing” that the basketball goal is ten feet high is success. In the WAY that is Christ, knowing that the goal is ten feet high is merely preparatory for the action that should follow. The goal in my driveway has adjustable height. So when we lower the goal to 8 feet, we don’t flip out about how unorthodox it is. We adapt to the difference, mentally note and KNOW the difference and the new height, then we play an adjusted game. Knowing propositions is an input to a process that should follow, not the end state.
So, Romans 6, KNOWING that we’ve had an ego death, we should no longer act in service to the things that comprised our previous ego which died. BEING that new creature underneath the shed ego is the goal. USING propositions to provoke one to such along the way is beneficial. HAVING axiomatic certainty without realizing what it is supposed to provoke one toward can actually bolster the ego (old man), preventing the ego death, preventing the reality of it being crucified with Christ. We should no longer be the servants of “missing the mark.” If a person is rivalrous and likes to weaponize information, they can do all of that weaponization with Biblical information. So HAVING that information cannot be the end state. Applying it by means of phronesis is the key.

Ok thanks,Kevin, for responding but still need more clarification please. If cussing "works" for some Christians, shouldn't that be something that doesn't "work"? Wouldn't that be something we should try not to do as we grow in sanctification? I mean isn't cruel rough language and cussing a sin? I realize words are just words and can change but don't you kind of go by the meaning of words in the culture? I mean what we call "cuss" words in the culture today are looked down on in a professional setting or in schools, by children. Why would a Christian want to accept this in their own vocabulary , let alone in a meditation practice? I still don't get it.
