R.I.P. Lee. You will be missed. I remember my Mom playing Heavy and In-A-Godda-Da-Vida when they first came out and I used to go to sleep listening to In-A-Godda-Da-Vida back then. I'm 48 and still have her originals. Now I have all the originals; both in unopened mint condition and a signed copy of Heavy. I still blast Butterfly whenever I need to relax or when working on my bracket cars. Yes, the neighbors STILL call the cops on me @ 2am during race season! :-D
YES, this was Exactly What I remember hearing when I was in high school and was Absolutely AMAZED! And, Yes I was a Hippie and a Flower Child that actually SURVIVED the 60's and today I'm 72 (2022).
May Lee Dorman rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. The music world lost a great bass player and musician. I remember my baby sitter playing this at full blast.
I was 2 years old when my father bought the lp and i preffered the in a gadda da vida music than babies music. A hard rock fanatic 2 year old baby since. lol
every drummer of a certain age has to play and know this song and Rare Earth's "Get Ready" by heart... the record grooves were all worn out on my original album. God Bless CD's and MP3s...Ron Bushy ... legend
II heard the IB in early '67 opening for the Doors in LA in the Valley at one of the Dave Diamond "Diamond Mine" concerts. This was the "Heavy" period. I can tell you brothers and sisters, THAT was one hell of a concert.
WOW! How is it possible this gem has slipped past my radar for so many years? The musicianship displayed here is nothing short of spectacular. Thank you for this upload!
Was lucky enough to see them when they did a reunion show in Los Angeles in 1984. It was as if aliens from another planet had descended upon the earth and a this truly gifted musicians played an out of this world concert. They had bigger plans to relaunch and I even met them a few weeks later as I ran a talent agency and was hoping to maybe book them for some shows , Of course In A Gadda Da Vida was awesome but they also did an extended version of one of my favorite Iron Butterfly tunes- "Soul Experience" and extended that a a lengthy 18 -20 minute jam. They could make sounds come out of their instruments that defy explanation. Incredible and a highlight as well for live shows that I've seen in my life.

WOW and WOW... I remember hearing In A Gadda Da Vida for the first time. I was 9 years old. Can any body out there say that? I'm sure your out there...Ashamed to admit your age? I just started smoking reefer back then. I learned to play drums because of this song.I used to try to play along with Ron Bushy. Incredible memories' this is when life was good growing up.,except for Nixon and Viet Nam. I'm 53 years young and I still put the C.D. on my 1000 watt surround system[sounds great] THANKS,Dan
On the debut of the album, I was photographing their played a concert at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, PA, as a volunteer stringer for AP. The version of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida they did ran 45 minutes, with a 25 minute drum solo. They were filming, plus doing 16-track sound recording of this concert and it has NEVER surfaced anywhere since then. These stupid assed recording execs have it locked away in some damned vault somewhere gathering dust!!!
Yeah, sounds funny, that past. When playing at the Danish TV Live, later in 1971, he said the same from the past, referring to three years ago only... Now, 2017, we say the same from the past, but today is 49 years ago!
Great performance! How many people are still listening to the artistry of the musicians in 2017, and not concerned about what the singer's political viewpoints are?
This is the closest rendition to what I remember from their performance in Baltimore, Maryland, USA in late 1969. If memory serves, the drum solo ran something like 26 minutes. Mine has been a long and eventful life, but this was one of the highlights.
I'm debating getting "Iron Butterfly: Fillmore West 1968". Which is a really cool looking compilation of four live shows recorded at the Fillmore West in 1968. It features the DEBUT of In A Gadda Da Vida before anyone else had heard it. Two months before that album was released actually. It was on a late leg of the Heavy tour. It has some of the really greats: "Iron Butterfly Theme," "Possession," "Are You Happy?" and of course IGDV.
@0801Steve , I totally agree with you. I also recommend you to hear John Hiseman and the Colosseum for another peak in musicality and endurance. I first saw them in the 1970 Plumpton Festival.
Woah, the amount of genius in this performance is almost radioactive! .....is it my imagination or while listening to it you can actually perceive a... "funny" smokey smell in the air during the solos? ;p
I saw this line-up live in Portland OR ... their last performance together as I remember ... and it was truly one of the best concerts I ever saw ... rivaling Pink Floyd ... they were on fire that night.

I was 18 years old when I heard that song for the first time in 1968. I still think Eric Braunn was a better guitar player and had a good performance than Mike P. on this song. Anyway thanks for upload and posting.

I saw them live in New York Central Park in the summer of 1969 singing this. Fantastic. Bought the album the next day.

IN A GADDA DA VIDA
Weed Me
Too bad no visuals. His voice (singers name?) sounds a little like Jim Morrison, but better.
7th grade make-out song. yes.
الموسيقي ديال بصححححححححححححح
ionibnlion Mohamed, Please translate?
Kinda weak in my opinion. The keyboard, which carries this song, was no doubt lacking in that classic dynamic sound. Still a great find.
what i mean is just an average rock drummer!
LOL!! Peter Criss!!! Criss is just a rock drummer nothing special!
bad version as usual
TY!
