2 seasons of Colts (07/09) and 2 congruent seasons at UIllinois with MI (06/07) and I can still feel the urge to do all the vocals in this. Was fun to march to as trumpet player haha!
My first DCI cadence I ever learned. I love street beat style cadences like this. Also love the nod back to “Crazy Army” in the beginning. All around amazing piece.
When I was a kid (many years ago...way back in the days of Napster and Limewire and such...) I downloaded a sweet recording of this cadence. It seriously took two days to download. I used to listen to it daily. I haven't heard it for a decade (or two) or so, but I immediately recognized it because you delivered it so well. It was awesome to hear this again. Keep on rocking, sir, because you rock super hard!
Being a part of a drum line is almost magical. I played snare in high school marching band. I never was anywhere close to your skill, but man what a time it was. Great video.
1990 was the first version of Electric Wheelchair. It’s much longer and parts of it is unrecognizable from what we know as EW. 1991 is when the version we all know and love was established. Though every year was slightly different.
Here's 1990: th-cam.com/video/1QnZwqrNl9I/w-d-xo.html The 1991 video is really poor quality with skipping but here's the 92 line: th-cam.com/video/wKoc0XHnabc/w-d-xo.html
I bet you could easily learn the UMASS cadence if you can play Electric Wheelchair. That quad groove and the rock beat right after are actually in that lol
1:17 Sticking wrong at J in the snare part. After the first 8th note it's 2 Shirley murpheys then a pudadda (r, rllrrrlll, rllrrrll, rll) Then the followings measure of 6s goes (rrrllr, rrllrr, rllrll, rrrlll)...basically 3 sets of 5 with eggbeater sticking, then another Shirley Murphey
I would love to see the opening snare part played as was written in Parking Lot Etudes. Instead of 5 stroke rolls there were sevens, flamacues, and flam paradiddles. This is still good. I'm a bit confused at the written for four basses, but you are playing on 5.

Uhhhhhhhhh not to be that guy but to be that guy... I think something's going on at E leading into F. The rim shots in the snares should go all the way to the downbeat, I think, and the tenor triplet thing is on beat 1 rather than being a pickup (remove the & of 2 in the second measure of F to get things back to normal). Also the sticking I learned for the tuplets at J was two Shirley Murphies with left threes on the ends, a right handed pudada, 3 eggbeaters, and another Shirley as before. I mean if you changed stuff just for fun that's cool (and it sounds good!). Just noting what I half-remember from learning it a long time ago. Personally this is one of my fave versions: th-cam.com/video/U8hMcUFRdtU/w-d-xo.html

Best cadence ever written. The tenor sweep part right after the rock section is legendary.
H?

Now if we could just get some Stone Ground 7
Played this cadence for 5 seasons at U of Illinois, brings back great memories. We might have beefed up the tenor arounds compared to this version

This, Ditty, and double beat are my all time favorites.
I'm not saying SCV aren't clean. I'm not. But this is the cleanest recording of EWC. Sick, bro. I appreciate this so much.

Same! I burned it onto a CD and also had it on my iPod touch lol
I think I need to find my walker. When I was a kid, the only place we could get anything DC related was by taping Finals on VHS from PBS.
This is one of those cadences that are fun for both the drum corps crowd and the football crowd
Being a part of a drum line is almost magical. I played snare in high school marching band. I never was anywhere close to your skill, but man what a time it was. Great video.
Such a fun cadence. Always gets me back watching Steve Gadd playing the first part at the Buddy Rich Memorial Concert Performance.
Maybe my memory has somewhat faded, but back in the late 90’s early ‘00s, I seem to remember a few parts differently. Still very cool.
Your memory has not faded, these parts are a decent bit different than they used to be
The tenor part was like the 93 street beat
You are a gifted musician, thank you for sharing your talents with us mere mortals. Keep up the great work!
Underrated jam that needs to make a comeback
We need more vids like these
Instant click when I see this on my notification. So nice.
I still like the 2002 version with those delicious tenor and snare solos though
Double beat 9000 next? You should do all of SCVs stuff. Their line is sick.
He can't due to it being copyrighted through tapspace
@@mrnicknick02 Are all SCV cadences copyrighted? Double Beat 2000 would be fantastic to see him do, especially the tenor solo at the end.
@@mrnicknick02 bunch of drumlins doing their stuff on TH-cam... not sure why he wouldn't be able to.
so many good memories of playing this in college, great stuff!!
That bass groove coming after that tenor solo was absolutely 🔥🔥
Definitely bobbed my head and made a stank face during that part. 🤣
Always heard the tenor waltz in UMASS cadence, never realized it was from this.... and Ive heard this a billion times (even played it one year)
This is genuinely my favorite cadence, great video as always!
0:56 is my favorite 'groove' of it..very well played!!!
Small correction for those struggling in bar 2, beat 4 is a swiss army triplet. the music has a typo.
It was very ahead of it's time. I know they were doing the original version in 1990 but I think it went back further. Maybe 89. 🤷♂️
I'm pretty sure this arrangement is from the 80's. It's written for 4 bass and no spocks. But I beefed it up a little

@Christopher Pate You marched "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Carmen?"
Really loved seeing you wearing the Marine drum corps shorts
Man I wish SCV still played this. All the videos on youtube are at least 20 years old now.
My high school drum tech was in scv and we play a remixed EW (solo in the beginning) in our march through the school
Hell yea man
One of my favorite cadences
Even though I’m a trombone player I watch these videos everyday!!
Same here!
Love this creater
The 02 version of this is my favorite cadence ever!
Super tight as always. Damn!
the penn state blue band's parade cadence is a variation of this! :)

This is a fun cadence to play lol. We played a short version of the cadence at the college I went to.

The beginning of it is "crazy army" by Steve gadd.
I finally found a TH-camr drummer that isn’t just covering songs on the drums
This is my 3rd time watching this 🥁🎶

honestly I'm glad I said something that had to do with this cadance in one of his other videos😂. now I cant stop listening to this

The section at 0:33 was pure bliss.
Agree. The bass run in the back was absolutely CLEAN.

Good Morning and welcome to video 39 of Eric growing out his beard ... (It counts, right, even though there is no talking?)
Correct!
It's wild to me the staying power of this cadence. It's a jam, but I pity the poor horn players that have to find the beat throughout the whole thing.
Literally here for the thumbnail
Yay! Do Cheerio
