This was one of the most powerful concerts I’ve ever been to… The reunion tour I never thought we’d get, the venue I’d always wanted to see, and the lunar eclipse that lasted the entire set…
It was a perfect night in every sense.

A lyrical genius that just happens to put his words to my favorite kind of music.

I was trying to learn this song and came across this. What a powerful song, especially in this format. I think I have a new favorite Troubadors song.

Turnpike was the sound track to my four years of college. Powerful music!

Same! Pretty much same for all of us down here in Oklahoma and Texas.

With the midnight sky and your big brown eyes like you stumbled on a pearl
Woke me from a thousand meter stare
With a halo hanging just a little too heavy
    And another evening's curls
Mixed up with the morning in your hair
Like a country girl who came across a cat out in the rain
Like a country girl you played it true to form
Come to lay a little pity on the prodigal son who parted with his name
Little shelter for a stray out in the storm
You can try to put the past behind
It's on your clothes like burning pine
Is it gin or turpentine you keep in your canteen?
Oh if pressure makes a diamond babe, I still might come out clean
A simple solitary joy, temporary comfort (or company?)
Well I closed my eyes and felt I'd slept a hundred thousand years
And waking now with disregard the terms of my surrender
Took every bad fork in the road and look who's standing here
And we were victims of eternal love for almost half a morning
She said I know you can't go home again, tell me where you land
Are you used to get another chance, you get to be reborn
And here's to greener higher heels to make your final stand
You can try to put the past behind
It's on your clothes like burning pine
Is it gin or turpentine you keep in your canteen?
If pressure makes a diamond babe, I still might come out clean
For a walking ghost that southern coast was a lawless piece of heaven
There were bayou dives and oyster knives and liquor for to drown
And the Q-beam lights and the rooster fights
    And months I don't remember
    My winning hand went busted
And my luck was winding down
In the southeast Texas setting sun
    I sat surveying damage done
We wish you luck and fortune hun
But we're closing in an hour
    Backed up to the trinity
With no more road to run
No longer could I wander on alone on my own power
You can try to put the past behind
Perhaps it's only in your mind
They close the doors at nine at Channel Marker 17
If pressure makes a diamond babe, I still might come out clean
    Tejanos curse in Spanish
And a Cajun eyes the weather
There's black mud on the belly of the yellow colt I ride
Never thought I'd catch myself so calm out in the open
As a gulf storm deals in bucket loads
    And hits from every side

August, I think. They released Mean Old Sun a couple of months ago and Chipping Mill a few days ago.

Oh, man, this is just ... so much better than the album version. Shooter Jennings and Turnpike go together like milk and vinegar, just absolutely ruined this one.

Whose here to listen to the original version because they absolutely butchered it on the new album making it a rock song
