What an absolute masterpiece! Holy shit!!! If anyone can name me a more underrated country song in the last 20 years i really want to hear it. This deserves as many likes as any George Straight no.1
3:55 gives me chills every time I listen to it, which I do daily. The lyrics, the composition, the musicianship, my god it does not get any better than Turnpike.
About to say goodbye to my 13 yr old black mouthed cur, this song makes it bittersweet to listen to. Always pick Man's Best Friend over a woman, unless she's just as in love with him/her as you are. Good one boys, tugs at the heartstrings.
This band and musicians like them are for people that feel lyrics and the notes, there are not that many of us. No radio play in TX for this band angers me down deep. It is what it is...
"Belgian Made Browning". Very cool lyrics as Browning's haven't been made in Belgium for years to my knowledge. My father has a Belgian made Browning, very proud of it as he's the one that told me that was original manufacturing site, but not any longer.
Belgian O/Us are made in Japan and have been for decades. The autos and some rifles are still made in Belgium. You darn well he was talking about a Superposed though.
This belgian made brown- is actually referred to in one maybe two other songs that Evan Falker wrote from HCT. In the song house fire his granddaddys brown is one of the only things he is sure to get out with. I had a house fire, my first house when I was about 20 years old. That song nails that feeling, and i to escaped with my family ,ran back in for my dog and my hunting guns one being my grandfather's. The reference to ole jim shows a shared love for a hound . Another song from Evan i love equally is Southeastern Son . With mention of hunting guns and a country boy who found his purpose and gift in the pines and the clear-cuts once again I can relate. And those songs hit me in a way I can't describe except to say ,not alone. Even Falker is in the top 5 song writers ever. I also have an interesting Browning . Its a .270 bolt action, gold inlay, definitely the finest rifle i have or will ever own. Thing is it is stamped on the barrel, made in Belgium .on the other side of the barrel is, browning arms company st.Louis Mo. And Montreal Pq. ? Not sure the mon.conection but !
@@geoffparker6956 Thanks for the info & good stories! And sorry about your house fire. Can’t imagine, but you got the important things out, especially the living ones.
I have listened to this song about 20 times and each time I pick up something else. A lot of sadness and loss at having given 12 years to something that didn't work out. I am not sure if it's hope or disillusionment when sings "bet we dance on the fourth of July". What a great song, the imagery....just poetic. The insturments; especially the fiddle busting out toward the end turns the song into an anthem.
20 years ago these guys would have been winning CMA Awards . But their too Country to win Country Awards . A really good Band with songs about more than getting drunk & having Sex in the back of a rusty Pickup Truck .
this story, while amazing in itself, has so much personal resonance with my ex. Strikes me every time I here it, which like most others, is daily. Dodged a bullet my friend.
Evan Felker is eerily similar in his mannerism and singing style to Lyle Lovett. However, he is singing songs that resonate directly and deeply with his fans.
Just bumped into the Troubadours on ACL, but what a band! Now, I'm now going back through their back catalog - and am a big (albeit new) fan. Hope to hear them in person soon.
I didn't even see this episode the first time around-- the station near San Francisco reaired it while I was there on Christmas break, and my mom just happened to have it on. One or two songs in, it was obvious these guys were the real deal.
Turnpike troubadours lyrics almost feel like they were written by Cormac McCarthy. Most of their song resemble a excerpts from a novels as much as they resemble songs.
Crazy that you mentioned this. Evan wrote this song with some ideas from a John Steinbeck short story; A Three Day Blow. Evan Felker is an immensely talented songwriter. ❤
Laying beside me is my 7 year old hunting dog. She’s getting extra pets tonight. What a tune.
One of the finest fiddle breaks in country music. So good.
What an absolute masterpiece! Holy shit!!!

1000% agreed. What’s above a masterpiece??😂
I think Evan Felker is a musical genius…and those guys on the stage with him are world class players! There is no better country music than this! IMHO
"The country was cold with the sun westward sinking" dang, I felt that
Sounds like Michigan
@@michiganmikeupnorth Sounds like my part of Virginia in the Winter even....... Awesome lyric
Evan Felker may be second to only Robert Earl Keen when it comes to telling a story through song. Great stuff
3:08 3:10
Well performed! ❤from Eureka Springs & Broken Bow
Props to the entire band, but dang...that fiddle!
3:55 gives me chills every time I listen to it, which I do daily. The lyrics, the composition, the musicianship, my god it does not get any better than Turnpike.
Chills Every time
Every talk me and my friends in woods.
Yep. Fantastic.
If you're gonna play in Texas...
3:42 for me... Even when he finally got a quail, Lorrie is still occupying every single thought his mind can think. He's hurting that bad.
Might be the best Turnpike song ever. Love me some hunting songs.
Likely the greatest and best song in the world.
wowzers.... discovered this band this past week. incredible
So many beautiful lines in this song,,,,,pure poetry.
Damn that 25 second fiddle intro gives me chills. I miss being front row at concerts, in Texas
Reminds me of grouse hunting with my Dad before his age caught up with him. Gives me chills
I can’t stop playing this song
This song gives me goosebumps.
Reminds me of my quail hunting days, I have a Belgium made Browning and I dodged a bullet in my early twenties. Love this song.
Same... But I have an Ithaca Model 37
Same… But I have a Winchester 1400

Good one boys, tugs at the heartstrings.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your best friend. Animals are the best part of living; along with music from the Turnpike Troubadours. ❤
How does Music this good have less than 100k views? Shame.
I just found out about this band, now I'm on a mission to double that number lol
This band and musicians like them are for people that feel lyrics and the notes, there are not that many of us. No radio play in TX for this band angers me down deep. It is what it is...
Just the best....we need more songs that tell a story.
It don’t get much better than this!
This song reminds me of my family ranch in the hill country of Texas. Riding around with my best friend shooting birds and drinkin beer
Such a great band, seeing them again tomorrow night!
I saw them last Saturday night in Charlotte, NC. They reeled off 24 songs and were smooth as silk. I LOVE these boys!❤
Probably their best song
I have never heard a song by these guys I didn’t like, but this one is probably my favorite.
Born and raised in Northern California but that fiddle reminds my DNA that it's from Appalachian mountains
Fullbright and Trubadours forever. They'll be back and I can't wait.
First i've ever heard of this band..amazing!!..need to do a deep dive
The Storytelling in every song is absolutely nuts!
I’ll forewarn you. These boys are addicting. I know, cause I am! HA ❤
This song brings back so many good memories.
The red dirt waltz. Strauss would love it.
Pure gold

thank god for people like chris stapleton and sturgill simpson, give it a few more years and real country will be back.
Max Cockerill: Real country never left; Nashville did.
Need to put the “O” back in country!

If there was any way for another album, it would be a blessing from the skies. The music is appreciated so much!
Sure sounds like something is brewing!
You may get the Christmas miracle
😀
And it happened 😎
Rumors of a fire starting to burn! 🤞🏻

You married her family....you dodged a bullet. True words if I’ve ever heard. Lol
Chido.
If Cormac McCarthy wrote lyrics for Lyle Lovett backed by the best country band in history….
If John Steinbeck wrote songs...
Crazy that you mentioned this. Evan wrote this song with some ideas from a John Steinbeck short story; A Three Day Blow. Evan Felker is an immensely talented songwriter. ❤
