Thanks for the feedback dude! This was a fun learning experience for me, trying a new format. 🍻 Tallboy is such a rad bike! Can’t wait to get on the new one
Something I keep forgetting about, is a nice point y’all brought up; ‘where a reviewer is coming from - as far as bike travel’. I’m coming from a 170mm/160 rear that’s very poppy yet smooth, riding up & down desert mesas. Thanks for your content.
Hey thanks! I think it’s really important to get other opinions and see where people are coming from. I’m really glad you brought that up in the comments! 🍻🍻
Great chat and demo! Owning a bike in this 160/150 travel range, I can see how it sits in a strange category. My friends from a DH background would not touch it (Megatower and Nomad exc.) and the XC guys find it too slow. I feel like the Tallboy is great for your type of trails but wish they species it with a super deluxe like the 5010
Coming from a 2015 Bronson, IMO nobody can go wrong with the V3 Hightower. I struggle with it a bit in tight technical terrain, but I'm sure I'll adjust to it. Screw these new bike prices though
Hey Dustin , been watching lots of your videos on tires and your bikes . I have a brand new Santa Cruz Nomad CC V5, and I've always been into tire tread patterns and compounds. The Nomad has the fox suspension platform 170mm front and back and has a dhx2 coil with the climb switch. it came with a 2.5 Assegai DD maxxgrip front and the same on rear but its a DHRII 2.4 there heavy. what do YOU and anyone that READS THIS recommend if it was your bike? They can be Aggressive tread patterns with small or large knobs etc .. I'm in Eastern New England by shoreline but I plan on going to bike and state parks and I do ride in rainy conditions as well . thanks in advance
Interesting take. A nomad seems like a whole lot of bike for your trail systems up there. In socal we'd consider those xc trails. I would definitely want something that pedals better like what you're looking for or into (short travel).
Ya man it was awesome to have a different opinion on the channel. Definitely going to do more of this. I’m really diggin my Scor 4060. Seems like the perfect blend of long and short travel
whats your honest opinion of it over the v2 dustin? i didnt particularly like the rear end on my v2 HT i thought it felt harsh over anything small/rooty/small chatter i tried a few different shocks (dpx2 and SD ultimate & with tractive tune) and it just always felt harsh to me - obviously they now come with a new SD ultimate which is awesome as i have one, has this transformed the rear end? what does it actually gain over the v2?
I've owned Ibis, SC, Rocky Mountain, Yeti, Specialized, etc., and the new 5010 is the most fun I've had on a bike. I'm in the desert Southwest so loose dirt and lots of rocks are the norm. Was 29er only forever but have embraced the Mullet full force. It is awesome!
Cool format. Strong work! Love the honesty! And my Tallboy!

Definitely agree on the last Gen bikes being on the small end. 475-480 reach is the sweet spot for Larges in my opinion.
Totally. I think we are starting to hit the pinnacle of bike geometry 📐

Yah tallboy is pretty money around here! And totally agree. It deserves a super deluxe shock!

Yah man Santa Cruz prices are out of control and they are starting to skimp on parts. Not a fan of that

What are you looking to accomplish in the tire swap?

Solid video man! I think the V3 is definitely better then the V2 also!
another great bike from Santa Cruz!
So the RockShox super deluxe + is not that great for climbing as far as having the feeling of being locked out?
I personally find the super deluxe great for climbing. I think it’s more the bikes suspension design more than the actual shock though.
@dustinbjohnson OK got it, that could be thanks!
I recognise that trail from another channel. what name of this trail?
First part was Lower Trail 4, second part was Bob’s trail
Which Tallboy you talking about?
Last years
so you have a offering and a scor
Just the scor. Only bike I need 🦄
Height of both riders??
5’10 on the medium and 6’ on the large
Dustin, interested to hear your take on the latest gen 5010.
I’m actually really interested to try that bike. I’ve never rode a mullet. I’ll try and get on one!
@@dustinbjohnson From your description of style, ride and location I think it's perfect for you.
@@GF-cb8rr I’m alittle too OCD to have 2 wheels not the same size… but you never know.. 🤣
