  • At the age of 28, Tyler Henry has become one of the best-known psychics anywhere, with a TV show, a road show and, he says, a 600,000-plus waiting list of people who want him to help them connect with their departed loved ones. Correspondent Tracy Smith sits down with Henry to discuss how he first recognized his ability at the age of 10; why he welcomes skepticism; and how he believes his talent helps people deal with grief.

I, too, was very surprised to see this episode on the otherwise trusted Sunday Morning. His “psychic tactics” are well known. Research the targeted mark (family names, hobbies, birthdates), and with an audience say something like, “I am picking up the name Mary” (OMG, I know a Mary!). And just look at the phoniness of his face as he lies, his giveaway laugh … Please run an episode featuring those who see through these scams and give you tips for not being grifted.

1:00 -- "Do you know who Johnny is?" John is the most common men's name in predominantly Christian countries. In non-English speaking countries, the name might be Ian, Ivan, Johannes or Sean. There are also feminine derivatives like Joan and Shawna. And don't forget the family name Johnson. The odds that somebody knows a person with the name John or a variant is better than 50 percent. Also, he specifically called out "Johnny," but settled for John. That's a form of moving the goal posts.
1:43 -- A name that starts with Ma. Again, Mary is the most common name (male or female) in predominantly Christian countries. Mae is a variant of Mary. Also, Mary Margaret and Margaret Mary are the most common first name/middle name combinations in predominantly Christian countries. And other names like Mark, Mario, Marsha and every first and last name that starts with Mac qualify as a hit. The odds that somebody has a relative with one of these names is actually better than two out of three.

Watch that episode of law and order SVU with Martin Short, it explains how people who claim to be psychic work. It's a parlor trick that anyone who has ever worked the carny circuit knows how it works and can be very lucrative. I remember Sylvia Browne who was promoted by people like Montel Williams and Larry King twice told people with missing children that the child was dead only to have the child be found very much alive later. I would say what's the harm except that they are many times taking advantage of people who are in a very vulnerable place. The interviewer could have at least attempted to do a little bit of " journalism " here

What a fake. He's using the oldest tricks in the book to get the desperate, grieving people he's talking to to give him all the information he needs to make them think he's communicating with spirits. For example, saying he's getting a name that involves 'Ma' - I bet everybody reading this knows somebody with a name like that, Mary is one of the most common names in the world! And Parons walks right into it and tells the guy exactly what he needs to know. And of course it would have been super easy for Tyler to look up Parsons' information on the web since he's a celebrity.

Henry is on a par with so called faith healers. And they survive because a sucker continues to be born every minute. I will always believe what the Bible states that those who have passed are asleep and they will rise when the Lord comes again. It all sounds amazing when you see these shows but honestly I look at it like this, WHY would we want our loved ones to see or know the evil and heartache we face daily here on earth ? I believe there are Angels but not our loved ones communicating with people.

That peace is fake! He’s just telling them what they want to hear. You’ll never hear one of these conmen say “oh, your father was very disappointed at you” or “your grandma hated your grandfather”. What Tyler is doing is a SCAM. He’s profiting from their grief.

So what does one say about someone who is not famous, doesn't go around reading people but does and can see and audibly hear spirit? Are they fake too? It's against their religion, considered saucery. No, they aren't crazy.

Because he has a show on E!, and E! and CBS are probably owned by the same corporation. So the synergy thing.
