As a singer, I think this is a brilliant venture into a new FACH, for an already brilliant Bellini/Donizetti singer. I saw Grace Bumbry in her first transition to Soprano role, and Munich booed her off stage, yet she became a world famous Turandot. Let's not use words like ugly and remember that we are talking of real people with talent looking to expand themselves.
This is her first Lady Macbeth, she'll grow beautifully in the role as she she sings it more. If this is a dress rehearsal, could explain less than full throttle singing. As well as the run of a show develops, it comes together better later in the run. It sounds as though Maestro Chioldi is marking. That's why I suspect this is a working dress rehearsal
I saw this production, and she was a serviceable Lady Macbeth. But to sing this role properly, you need a perfect mastery of the bel canto, including fioritura and trills, etc. And she really is not a bel canto singer. Her singing of these sections was effortful and not all too successful. She is a hell of a lot better than Netrebko in the role.
It really would be nice if Lyric Opera Chicago would expand their streaming service to include full video instead of just audio. Aside from that, my only criticism with this brindisi staging are the teacups instead of goblets (the back row of the chorus). Other than that this looks and sounds like it must have been a first class production.
Well I hope she will grow more into the role if she sings it more. But I get the impression now that the fame at last grew a bit she is overtaxing herself trying to sing everything. For such a long time nobody( except the American audiences,) knew her. But now she's trying to sing everything to make up for lost time. She's not so young anymore and a Callas she'll never be. Don't understand me wrong I like her very much but is the voice going to last? She has not even sung in many European theaters, mostly at the Metropolitan. Well time will learn. Very sharp edge in the voice especially in this role. Diction terrible.
Her voice is certainly ugly enough for this role, but her lack of a clear fully developed middle/chest voice makes this a largely unsuccessful attempt. However, I would take this over Netrebko any day.
She did a very good job but she certainly lacks certain traits that constitute a true Lady Macbeth, not only vocally but also in her interpretation, although I don’t know that what extent this is because of the indifferent direction. In any case I think Guleghina has set the bar very high in this generation and closes the big Ladies lineage that started with Callas and continued with Verrett and Dimitrova
I think Radvanovsky is much more in the league of Guleghina than of Callas and Verrett. Like Guleghina, SR is no bel canto singer, though she can fake her way through it more convincingly than Guleghina ever could (G's Norma would give Florence Foster Jenkins a run for her money). Callas's 1952 Scala performance remains unequalled vocally, musically, and interpretively. Verrett comes next. Everyone else seems to be quite a bit behind these two.
@@Shahrdad I would add Gencer to the Callas / Verrett list. Although vocally she was not at the level of a young Callas, her acting and stage presence were extraordinary. Lady Macbeth remains one of the most challenging italian roles a singer can tackle.
This is a strange production, with too much extraneous stage business. Rodvanovsky does her best, but, for me her voice is not suited to this role, and sounds ,at times forced. There is ,of course the peerless Callas version, but Taddei and Gencer are a great alternative, both in great voice . Gencer’s voice is seamless all through her range, and Taddei superb !

Sorry for her... that embarrassing SLOW tempo... just derailing the vocal line. Apart from the grotesque pace, I'm not quite sure she'd be suited for the role AND for Verdi's middle dramatic operas. Let's see in the years next coming.
Sondra R. is absolutely stunning! Her voice, body language, and pure artistry, is the very best of opera. thank you so much!!!
I was there. The impact in the house was incredible! The entire performance was amazing!
Where was that?
@@martincaracoche4657 Lyric Opera of Chicago
Sondra, you are a delight. Your voice is beautiful and strong and your acting is terrific.
She nailed it in Napoli in a concert performance on March 18th 2023 simply amazing, the audience went wild!
This is the slowest Brindisi I've ever heard. Takes the whole character of the toast away.

Bumbry was not a world famous Turandot - not one of her best and most well known roles for sure
Sondra, you did a great job with this role. Brava.
La parola scenica e' diventata un ricordo del passato.
Wonderful Sondra - thanks for sharing! ❤️

Espantoso el macbeth no tiene la voz, es un tenor que canta de barítono y por lo tanto no tuene volumen en el centro del registro.
The tempo of the drinking song was too slow. Despite the tune's jagged vocal line this is still a party.
@@vincec8218 here you go again. Remember nobody cares about your support for this singer and you do her no favors.
UNIKAT by Sopranos !!!!!
In this part , where is Lady macbeth ?? Total miss of the caracter.... ah who is this childish macbeth ? What is that voice ?
Who is the Macbeth?
I think it’s Craig Colclough?
Simply ,disastrous, verging on laughable. And this madame is a superstar today....

I agree with you
I think that the Lady must be a demon like Verdi wants.....Radvanovsky has nothing of demoniac
Callas all the way
Well said, and I wholeheartedly agree…
Lord Macbeth: I give hope to usurpers on this most glorious day! Never give up. It will eventually pay off…Aauuugh!!! The ghost!!!!

Scene impossibili. Brava la Lady, meno Macbeth. Coro buono. Si vede però che non stiamo in Italia.
What are you implying?
What happened to her voice and technique? This was a very disappointing performance of the otherwise brilliant Radvanovsky
Very slow brindisi, in my opinion.

Dramatic coloratura is difficult to pull off.
Awful scenery though...
