Well said. This is stupendous, spectacular, tense, a superb dramatisation of Verdi’s extraordinary music. The horror at 11 mins, following the beautiful release of live doves, emphasises that there is a deep, underlying truth which is very alive at this time. The story is not of the distant past but of today. I give thanks to all involved in this production and to those who enable us to watch it freely on TH-cam. It stirs my heart.

Dziękuję wykonawcom i realizatorom.
NABUCCO is such a great VERDI opera though only his second; I've seen it live in many places such as as In the Main Opera House in BUDAPEST, TWICE at the MET, and at WAHINGTON DC OPERA; I am so impressed with the singing of the principals and the wonderful chorus which is so crucial in this early work. The set design is boggling, one that is impossible to get even in the grandest of Opera Houses like The MET or LA SCALA. It's unlikely to get the magnitude of this production elsewhere, as indicated but the the big bonus is that the voices are outstanding enough to do full justice to VERDI'S early MASTERPIECE. GRAZIE /MERCI / DANKE / THANK YOU / GRACIAS
Bravi Tutti!
Yes. Here we are in the 21st C. I remember too well the days of 60s, 70s, and 80s as, yesterday thrills like we will never know. How tremendous a gift of treasures at the opera houses that were filled to be among history being made!

@@mianom I think that special effects added to the spectacle of the work and as far as hangings are concerned, I didn’t see any. Maybe you could enlighten me.
Who: Giuseppe Verdi, age 28. Currently grieving over the death of his wife and two children, vowing never to compose after the failure of his second opera. What: Nabucco, an opera in 4 acts detailing the plight of the Jews as they are conquered and exiled by the eponymous Babylonian King. 120’ and in the early romantic bel canto style of Bellini and Donizetti. Famous for the “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves”, and for jumpstarting Verdi’s career. Where: Made in Italy, premiered in Milan. When: Composed 1841, premiered 9 March 1842 Why: After the success of his first opera, Oberto, Verdi was contracted by La Scala for 3 years. Nonetheless, its impresario, Bartolomeo Merelli, had to convince Verdi to come out of ‘retirement’ after Nabucco’s libretto was rejected by Otto Nicolai. - - - - - Nabucco is led by blind rage, which means it’s not being led at all. Instead it tosses and turns from one place to the next, its lack of direction supplanted by righteousness. Each day Nabucco wakes to new wonders: a royal processional, an intimate soliloquy, a haunting declaration for a better life, and eyes them with a sort of curious contempt, folding them into the back of its consciousness before barreling on with its anger. Its ferocity is constantly at risk of overwhelming the whole production, but one suspects it’s also the only thing holding it all together.

A very nice production. Glad to see this posted. My only complaint is that some of the lead singers are Klingons. The mic on the forehead held on with a bandaid is just funny. That and the railroad tracks, running across the stage. I didn't know that the Temple was equipped with steel rails in 600 BC. Oh well, other than those little things, a great performance.
What an amazing and perfect venue for such a grand Opera. One of the only Operas I've seen where I can actually follow the story without a translation thanks to the skillful staging. Kudos to the technicians for creating a beautifully balanced sound. Everyone here has said all I could possibly say about the superb singing. Just wondering where the orchestra is. I know it's there somewhere.

If I'm going to be honest, the performance isn't perfect - but how many opera performances can claim perfection (and this has very ambitious staging)? In what can be seen and heard as flaws here are trivial and overwhelmed by the countless strengths in every aspect of this production. Make no mistake, you are unlikely to ever see a production of Nabucco that, in its totality is superior to this. [I was headed at this point to start attempting to cover every aspect that contributes to the magnificence of the performance and realized there would be so many words no-one would read it!] However, in addition to some wonderful work from the soloists, special mention must be given to the enthralling choral forces which do full justice to this chorus-filled opera. Don't waste time reading any further comments - watch this video recording for a wonderful opera experience. I was so moved and thrilled I was in tears by the end, ecstatic at the experience. Watch on the largest screen you have and with a good room-filling sound system (technically this is much better than 480p would suggest).
An interesting production with much to commend it. Visually spectacular with good orchestra and chorus. Soloists were generally good, with the main weakness being a principal (not saying who) who keeps on pushing the otherwise excellent voice ever so slightly off pitch; then, much less significant, Gabriella Morigi as Abigaille - where, early in the opera, an excellent technique was hampered by a timbre that has a coarse edge to it (but OK later); this, in contrast to Simon Yang as Zaccaria who was outstanding - as always. I was particularly impressed with the audio (except for the two 'science fiction'-like swoops sound effects during the first act), the sound being so well-balanced and mixed that it almost sounded like a studio performance! Well worth watching, particularly on a large screen home-cinema system to really take in the spectacle.(A pity the video isn't HD but video quality is nonetheless good enough not to detract.) The sheer magnitude of the staging must have taken a lot of planning and rehearsal as it comes off without a hitch.

Abigaille is a dramatic colorutura soprano. I'd say the closeted role would be Bellini's Norma. Both are very difficult roles to cast.
