You can tell he held back during his fight with obi-wan, there were many chances where he could have outright killed him and willingly decided against it. Watching his extra arms during the lightsaber battle, It's almost like he secretly wanted to die.
It's bad choreography and writing. He severely underestimates Kenobi. In the original continuity, this goes against Dooku's training which tells him to retreat if he does not successfully break his opponent psychologically and prevent them from using the Force against him before engaging them. In the current continuity, these two have actually fought many times before this point and Grievous has beaten him before. Either way, he should know what to expect having killed so many Jedi beforehand. George didn't see Grievous as an actual character like everyone else, more of a plot device really. A series about his origin story would be soooo crazy from his organ self becoming the iconic jedi killer coughing robot (possibilities are endless for nostalgia and stories with bringing back legends like Doku, yoda, anakin, obi-wan…)

Annoying how they depicted grievous in the movies. You read up on grievous and do research he is no one to mess with he took on 6 Jedi including 2 Council members killed 2 injured the rest all by himself it’s a shame they wasted such a badass character in my top 5 for sure
The General has racked up a Jedi body count somwhere between 67 and 83 throughout the Clone Wars (including comics, Tartakovsky's Clone Wars 2003, and Feloni's The Clone Wars.) That's nothing to sneeze at. But yeah I agree, I wish they'd done just a little more with him in the film. The 2003 Clone Wars conclusion occurs just hours before the start of this movie, where Greivous is abducting the Chancellor on orders from Sidious (a neat bit of drama illustrating how deep Sidious plays both sides). That's when Windu crushes Greivous' chestplates, crippling him.

Me : He triggers my cough! Niece : His ears are moving! How is it that I noticed he keeps coughing, wheezing, and my baby niece only notices his EARS MOVING!
Logically, it should be a draw. Grievous could spin his weapon fast enough to deflect Obi Wan's shots and close in for a strike.
