Could be 80 if its actually a thing. That would be a great idea and I would love to see that in the game so that you could easily tell an ace when you see them flying around in a bright red plane.
80 kills would mean within like a few days everyone would be red if they flew a plane and it wouldn't look very special anymore. Would need to be a lot harder to unlock, cool idea tho.

The Red Baron had a silver cup made after everyone of his kills. He had to stop at 60, because silver became hard to come by due to the war. I wonder if those cups are still around somewhere? They would be cool to have.

His mother gathered together many of his belongings and kept them in the family's home. Visitors were allowed to come and view his trophies, but when the Soviets came through during WW2, the house was ransacked unfortunately. There were rumors that some of items were saved, but its unknown ultimately. I believe a museum in New Zealand has one of the silver cups if I recall correctly.

The name Flying Circus was given to the Jagdgeschwader 1 [Fighter Wing 1] a unit he formed and first commanded in Mid 1917. The reason for the name was the fact the unit oven moved around the battlefield using tents for their buildings and because of the colors of their planes, a tradition Richthofen started by having his plane painted red.
The Fokker D.VII was the aircraft you were referring to as the one Richthofen made suggestions and improvements about.
Eric Hartmann was the highest scoring ace of all time, a German WW2 pilot with over 350 kills.
He had the Hartmann Messerschmitt that I recognise from il-2 sturmovik

Some misinformation in this video, Richthofen actually started WW1 in the cavalry and after it was found the cavalry had become ineffective, he became a runner and then a supply officer until he became outrage that he wasn't fighting.
He was also found with a single bullet wound to the heart, it was fired from the ground.

Red Baron wasn't really great at flying the plane, but it was his marksmanship that made him down 80 enemy airplanes.

The Red Baron and his brother had a cousin too, Wolfram von Ricthofen, who became a field marshal in the German army during WW2 - and who also were credited with 8 aerial victories during WW1.

The Red Barron also fought against Albert Ball (VC) who was a fighter ace from England and my school. Unfortunately it is believed that the Red Barron won their encounter, although upon acknowledgement the Red Barron said himself that Albert Ball was "by far the best Englishman flying.

Actually, Richthofen was fired upon by Australian machine gunner Sergeant Cedric Popkin, not a bunch of dudes with rifles. And he did not crash but was critically wounded by a 303 from Canadian pilot Arthur Roy Brown, or Popkin, and after being hit was able to crash land his aircraft. After which he died from his wounds seconds later.

Richthofen was actually shot by a single bullet through the heart; this singular shot has been confirmed as a pot shot fired by a regular rifleman on watch duty. His plane was observed to bank sharply to the ground, where it made a rough landing. A few British soldiers on patrol rushed up to the aircraft; One of them heard him mutter something in German, and then die. We still don't know what Richthofen's last words are :c

I bet he had a freakishly good eyesight too, it's a lesser known fact that before the invention of radar (and especially in a time where reading by candlelight was common), fighter pilots who spotted the enemy coming first had a massive tactical advantage.

I think it was the PBS show, NOVA, that did a special on the Red baron in an effort to determine exactly how he was eventually (and permanently) brought down. After a ton of time recreating the battle scene , modeling, interviews, blah blah blah they determined that he was killed by a rifleman, not ack ack. The proverbial 1 in a million shot that went through his fuselage and struck him.
Little known fact, Hermann Goering was part of the flying circus and this was one of the reasons as to why Hitler chose for him to become the commander of the Luftwaffe forces in WW2 because of his skills

Let's take a moment to realize, that if Battlefield went into the future, we never would have all these cool stories to reflect on about what happened 100 years ago! Looking back on what happened during the war makes me even more hyped for the game. I'm so happy they chose The Great War
according to the Xbox Marketplace, when you get the Early Enlister edition which contains the Red Baron DLC, they say that your character and vehicle will be re-skinned. So perhaps the Red Baron won't be in the story, but your player and plane will look like him instead. Those who don't have the DLC will have a normal looking pilot and standard painted Dr. 1.

It is probably worth mentioning that Manfred Von Richtofen was basically a kid in all of these scenarios, claiming the majority of his kills by the time he was 23.

this is what i love about battlefield going back to ww1, it is encouraging people to about history and the stories of people who fought. its been 100 years since ww1 and this game is reminding/educating a new generation that would probably not even know much about it, we should never forgot.
Werner Voss, Dr1 pilot with 40 comfirmed kills once took on 6 British SE5 biplanes. It was on the show Dogfights, and is one of it's greatest sequences. look it up, it's amazing
The Baron was killed by one bullet that hit him in the side. This has been confirmed by a member of the Australian Artillery who watched the Baron climb out of his plane, fall to the ground and say " Kaput" before he flopped over dead.

I think we could have a game mode called Train Defense. It is where you have a train on its tracks on each side of the battlefield. The train will pass through every so often. Your goal is to destroy the other teams tracks and sabotage them so the train derails. But if the other team can repair it in time with engineers. The rails are fixed. (Based off the the vehicles of ww1 video where he talks about trains..)

jack, I'm surprised you left out the details of his funeral. after von Richthofen's identity was confirmed he was given a funeral fit for a hero with full military honors. So great was the respect he had earned, even from his enemies. afterwards a British plane flew over the lines to Jasta 11's airfield and dropped a photograph of the funeral, a letter of condolence, and a wreath.
A German currently holds the record for air combat kills. Major Erich Hartmann of the Luftwaffe shot down 352 allied aircraft during the Second World War, 345 Soviet and 7 American.

No, Roy Brown Canadian Ace was credited, but evidence just recently discovered decades after the war suggest Australian ground machine gunners.
Basically I think Red Baron was in a dog fight with two Canadians and the fight got dragged into allied territories where ground fire came from the Aussies. Apparently a bullet penetrated from the side of his aircraft entering into the Baron's side. He was able to land the plane intact but died moments later. He blurted out something to the Australian troops who came rushing over.
We may play as him in the campaign imagine.. We play as 6 different charecter a in the story apparently maybe they each feature different jobs that people did in different areas of war

The Red Baron was actually shot down by an Australian infantryman according to several reports. This was proven when the bullet wound in his chest was on an angle facing where the infantryman was at the time and many of the infantryman who witnessed the Red Baron being shot down supported this report.

Jack, I'm glad you used the RED Baron soundtrack (artist Dirk Reichardt & Stefan Hansen) from the 2008 movie (I tried looking it up on itunes and other media sites and the album is very hard to come by) This movie is one of my most favorite world war movies and the soundtrack is outstanding and has one of the best dogfights. I'm glad it wasn't a Hollywood movie as they would of destroyed it. Thank you for this video and story.
