When I was 17, 18,19, the narrative that weed can't be addictive or harmful was still predominant. So I indulged, and got addicted. After a while, I didn't feel any of the nice effects, and just got extremely paranoid, lazy, depressed, and borderline psychotic. It's been 6 years and I'm never touching weed again.

Thanks for doing what you do. Weed made me asocial. I would buy 10g, lock myself in my appartment for four days and do nothing else than roll, smoke and play video games. I feel bad for people who can't handle weed. My life turned around once I started smoking, my friends and family told me I was pleasant to be around again, and I'm always in a better mood even when I'm not high. It motivated me to get into more hobbies and to take better care of my relationships, and it made me better at the hobbies I already did have. Nothing but positive for me. And to the people that say it's bad for your lungs and throat and all that bullshit, I know numerous people that are in their 70's and 80's who have been smoking weed everyday since their pre teens, never had any lung or throat problems. Weed is not bad, it's the person who has the problems.

Great advice, I would like to add though that it isn't just a mindset shift; a major component of your perceived experience is Neurobiological. Watching Andrew Huberman's 3HR lecture on this Neuroscience of marijuana / addiction was truly eye opening. Your ability to have motivation, to feel pleasure or even base stimulation from life is governed by your Dopamine receptors. The brain as a machine doesn't like to be in altered states, it always wants to find homeostasis of body/mind, so it compensates by weakening those receptors. If you indulge in THC (imitation dopamine) long enough, this is a downward spiral. Dopamine isn't just pleasure, it is motivation, reward, endocrine regulation and neuron communication. All of that gets turned down to next to nothing over time. This is why it's hard for addicts to go cold turkey... While there may not be acute / fatal withdrawal as with alcohol, there is an intermediary period where you have no endemic Dopamine supply and next to no capacity to receive it. Life becomes empty, meaningless. Your hormones are out of wack so your appetite and sexual function basically shuts down. Nothing is stimulating. The poison becomes the cure, hence the relapse to flood your starving brain with more fake dopamine. If you tough it out though, your brain will adjust to having no supply by increasing the sensitivity of your receptors and nutrition will over time synthesize natural dopamine. How long it takes for your brain to recover depends how long you've been addicted.. Usually no less than 2-3 weeks, but in extreme cases 2-6 months. But if you Exercise discipline, it will all return. You can still enjoy weed but it must be respected. I think no more than once or twice a week from a place of reset zero tolerance is about the safe limit to avoid the long term psychological detriments. Educate yourself on your brain and you will be able to manage it properly and identify the signs early if you fall off course. ✌️

    • @SobrietyUniversity
      @SobrietyUniversity  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Agreed. Good points. Dopamine and neurobiology play a huge roll in addiction. For some people, they can use it occasionally, however for others, not so much. The key is understanding one’s self, most people though have spent their whole life escaping themselves through substances and behaviors and that’s why I push for complete abstinence. Once I became my own best friend, the thought of covering that up with weed made no sense anymore

I smoked a lot of weed before and during cancer treatment. After surviving cancer I really wanted to get my health back on track so I started hiking, going to cycle classes, and weightlifting. I felt really good during workouts but I noticed that marijuana was slowing me down and lowering my performance. If I smoked at all during the day before a workout, or even the night before, I just felt so tired, sluggish, and unmotivated during the workout. I noticed particularly with cardio that my lungs were affected and made it harder for me to breathe. I think that working out can replace the high you get from weed, at least to a certain extent. I think that working out, more than marijuana or any other drug, has done more to help with depression. My advise: chase the workout high not the marijuana high.

Thing I hate about weed is, you cope with it and you're complacent, constantly rewarding. It's good in small small doses vacation on the second day or Thanksgiving or Christmas, daily use not for everyone/most and not a good idea period. Seems harmless and that's the dangerous part that goes over the heads of most that daily use.

Weed is amazing, and so is alcohol, LSD, schrooms, MDMA, and even cocain and opioids are great.
The issue is always that people start abusing the drug.
If you do something on special occasions while being mindful and responsible, you will not develop any issues.
It's only when people start doing it regularly, and eventually daily, that these substances cause problems.
The way to combat the many side effects of drugs including the addictive properties, is to have social rituals connected with them.
When you start doing anything outside of a predetermined scheduled ritual you start developing a unhealthy relationship with it.
It's honestly very similar to sweet foods. Like, if you only indulge in ice-cream occasionally, and only as desert after having had a full meal, it's probably not going to harm you at all, but if you observe yourself eating a whole cake for breakfast on a Monday.... You have developed a unhealthy relationship to it.

But then at age 33 I moved away from my degenerate smoking & drinking buddies
& bam! All of a sudden drinking & smoking just felt stupid. Instead of being a fun social thing it became 30 minutes of either no thoughts (alcohol), or weird thoughts (weed) followed by naptime.

Start smoking pot, and College are going to hang out with all the other people are smoking pot. That’s not why you’re going to college. Watch a little David Goggins and kick yourself in the ass. Don’t go easy on yourself… Go hard, decide to become a great success and make a difference in the world. The only way to do that is to put your nose in the books and not lift them up for four years. Weed completely lost its psychoactive effects on me...the mild hallucinogenic feelings that I had once gotten simply are not there anymore. I literally just feel groggy and then kind of slowed down the next day. So the problem solved itself...I just have no more desire to do it. However I replaced it with kratom which is probably worse, since I'm still hooked on it. The reason I got on kratom was because it was a very mild high that helped me like my awful life more. I want to get off everything now, including caffeine and TH-cam videos, but I feel like I need meditation and yoga to get to that point. My mind is a chaos of disjointed thoughts, and an ever-present accusing voice yelling at me that I'm terrible. Maybe I should start drinking.

Your mind is reminding you of your discomfort; pay attention to this important conscious message. Simply your brain is pounding at you because you truly don't enjoy the situation you are in. When someone doesn't enjoy their situation; the appropriate action is to grind and deal with the hard work. Weed and other substances help mute this voice of courage and makes the consumer comfortable. Unfortunately, if you don't like the situation you are in AND you try to make your mind comfortable, you will inevitably have a mental battle. Exercise and become serious on your sleep. It will be sobriety battle but it will be a new you. Trust.

I recovered mostly, but still feel like I would be a better person now if I didn’t have that rough stretch 5-8 years ago. I still smoke everyday but only low thc strains that are vaporized. Otherwise, I get uncontrollable, scary cardio reactions with my breathing (basically a panic attack every time I smoke). With the vaporizer, I still get headaches, dry eye to the point that it is affecting my vision significantly while high, straight up depression, and breathing problems if I can’t control myself on a given night and smoke too much. I also absolutely cannot be social while high anymore because my confidence gets destroyed guaranteed.

It says in the Bible we lived on cursed ground that we have to sweat and break the soil with hard work, we plant, the earth waters... But GOD makes the increase. Sacrifice is the key to prosperity as also shown and proven through God's ultimate act of love, putting his only begotten son on the cross to be whipped ,beaten, spit on, mocked ,ridiculed, tortured, and literally hung by nine inch nails and suffered untill his dying moment nailed to that rugged cross ....
It's hard for us to even fathom or use our imagination to comprehend the pain and suffering the mighty and pure unspotted lamb was hung to the cross. It all seems over right but no, God honored this sacrifice and the ground shook and the seal between God and man broke and a covenant was bound in blood, the blood of the Lamb . He is and will be The King of Kings and Lord of Lords and we will rise and celebrate his glory and salvation for all of eternity!!! When you take a leap of faith with THE LORD. He will NEVER forsake you no matter how dark and distant you think things get... yeah I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear NO evil. For tho art my Rod, my Staff my Comfort.
And boy is that Holy Spirit the ultimate comforter, there is nothing on earth that can ever fill that void

Addiction and dependency need to be two different classifications. People use dependency as an excuse to say weed isnt addictive. Ive never had a problem with addiction and most days the only substance I have in me is caffeine I consumed on accident because I didnt know it was in my drink (non alcoholic). But I have had to go to rehab for a dependency to a medication I was prescribed. But at the end of the day the outcome is the same, you do the same shit every day, you eventually need more than you used to, and it fucks up your life. Sure weed might not make you dependent and so it is SAFER than something else that will but you can still become addicted and you wont know it until it happens. If you can 100% objectively say you arent addicted then good for you but it never means its not possible and that it wont ever happen to you. Thats the mindset that starts the addiction in the first place.

I find this comical-the fact it was legalized. I did a report on this back in college in the late 80’s. Fast forward states realize how much money could be made to legalize it-so they do. Another way for our beloved states to be corrupt. First dispensary I stopped at was in Vegas off the south end of the strip. At that time there were 7 I think in Vegas. I was talking to the guy working there and asking how much state tax is being generated. He said that one alone generated over 2 million in state tax. 2 million out of 1 of 7 dispensary’s and yet where is that money going? Homeless would be in better shape, schools would be in better shape and yet nothing. We are talking maybe 14 million/annually and where does that money go????

When you smoke weed for a month or two everyday, it stops being fun. It doesn't even get you high after smoking everyday for a month.

Smoking weed will make your life less than what it could be otherwise, and it's not a very effective pain killer either. Anyone with serious chronic pain who is being honest will tell you the same. Does it feel better being in pain while high? ...Yes but the pain is still there just as much as before. Smoking weed is trading your long term well being for a short term buzz. It will make you paranoid, anxious, lazy, moody, and depressed eventually if you smoke enough of it long enough. If you smoke it everyday, you wont even be able to get high off of it anymore. It will simply take the edge off and the craving to smoke it temporarily, much like what smoking a cigarette does for the cigarette smoker. It's called dope for a reason.
I don't think it should illegal and I don't think it's as bad as alcohol but it's bad for you period point blank. Anyone telling you different is lying to you and perhaps themselves. If someone tries to tell you that it will do you good to smoke weed, ask them what other forms of smoke would they suggest that you inhale into your lungs? They wont have a valid answer because there are no forms of smoke that are good for your lungs. Carbon monoxide is bad for your lungs, if nothing else and weed smoke contains carbon monoxide.
