      Ecuador is glorious! Don’t let the shocks drive you away, these are just things that are surprising and for some maybe even not good but as long as that doesn’t ruin the overall experience or the reason you’re coming for then I say go for it! Either way if you decide to come I always recommend an exploratory trip just in case.

    For some strange reason after watching about the Pros and Cons of Ecuador here and on other well-done videos, I just don't think at my stage in life I could handle most of the "shocks" that you listed to actually live in Ecuador. 😞

    • @GMAceM
      @GMAceM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello again Dovy, it’s understandable to feel a bit unmotivated by some of these things. What I do want to say is that depending on what your intention is in Ecuador and where you land, you may end up experiencing much less of the things that I mentioned. For example I know expats who have completely isolated themselves from society, they live along the beach and I think they have very little to no interaction with Ecuadorian society. When I told this to a friend recently he said that that would be boring and maybe it would be, but it’s a good way to enjoy being in Ecuador while avoiding any and most of the things that could happen.
      Then there’s also living in a city with a ton of expats. So far the one that I hear has the most expats is Cuenca, so much so that I’ve heard you can actually end up hearing people speaking English in certain parts. So living in a place like that could also be a good way to find a mix of cultures or at least one that isn’t primarily/just Ecuadorian.
      Either way, my purpose with this video or any of my videos isn’t ever to deter anyone from coming, but to inform. I had been told things about Ecuador before coming but didn’t do enough research myself, I didn’t think it was necessary. Once I arrived, I ended up running into many things I would have never expected and each city that I went to surprised me in different ways. But like my friends said at the beginning of this video, everyone’s experience will be different depending on a variety of factors, so you really never know.
      If you have the chance to visit for a short amount of time before you live in Ecuador then I highly recommend you do so, a firsthand view of everything will always be the best resource for you to be sure of whether any place, not even just Ecuador, is right for you.
      Sorry for the long comment and thanks for watching!!👏🏼

    I have a video idea for you. How about interviewing or talking about the white collar jobs that require English fluency. I was curious about what foreign jobs would pay. And noticed some call centers would pay about 4 to 7 dollars an hour for a job in Ecuador working from home. Maybe these jobs are scams?

    • @GMAceM
      @GMAceM  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Luis, appreciate the suggestion!
      Any jobs in particular that come to mind for this so I can see if I can find an English speaker there to bring onto the show? Either way if I can’t find one maybe I’ll start doing the Spanish interviews or interview them separately and write down the information and talk about it in a video.
      Thanks for watching!

      I see it a lot in Portoviejo and I’m sure Don and some friends who are in Manta can attest to it as well but I’ve also heard from people who’ve lived all around the country that it’s the same everywhere. And girls, you might/will get another and very similar culture shock, if you visit Danish families in Denmark...most have definitely changed for the better, even in Denmark BUT, there's still a very long way for this old, old Colonial....some Danes overvthere never stopoed World War 2 but, are still fighting everyone, everywhere and at all times....and yes, in some Danish homes in Denmark, women STILL do EVERYTHING in the home and, I've even heard some Danish men, almost scream at their wives to serve coffee NOW!! I moved away from this sad old country many years ago and, will never look back!!
    And the sexism...last screams I heard in Denmark, was the last day I was there...Danish men clearly think they are above us all....hence, I left and, would still do so now!!

    This is really great. Our family - including kids 9, 13, and 14 - are visiting Ecuador this July. I've consumed a ton of content. This video was unique. The comments about the Chicas (makes sense) and especially the Reinas (nuts!) was something I'd never heard. Question - I have a kid with food allergies - tree nuts are especially bad. Are tree nuts common in Ecuadorian food? Also, are there any Spanish phrases you'd recommend when bringing this up to food service professionals? Thanks!

    • @GMAceM
      @GMAceM  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Really appreciate your comment. It’s also great to hear that you found this video unique, it really motivates me to make other videos that are different than the norm.
      As for your question: off the top of my head I can’t think of a specific food that would have tree nuts in it. Peanut butter is used in some foods but other than cakes or sweets I don’t think you’ll find a lot of foods with tree nuts in them.
      As for a Spanish phrase, if you want to ask just to be sure, you could explain that your kid has allergies and ask about the nuts:
      “Mi hijo (or hija if girl) tiene una alergia a los frutos secos entonces quería saber si las comidas aquí usaban frutos secos.” (My son/daughter has an allergy to tree nuts so I wanted to know if the food here uses tree nuts)
      “La comida aquí tiene frutos secos?” (Does the food here have tree nuts?)
      “Me podría indicar las comidas que usan frutos secos por favor?” (Could you indicate which foods use tree nuts please?)
      These are just some ways to ask that I would use and there are a variety of others but then this comment would be infinite (lol). I hope this helps and thanks for watching! 👏🏼

    Men & Women are different BUT non is better than the other. We have differences and that's okay.
    We are meant to be different to help each other.
    Respectively, there are things that men can't do but women can AND there are things that women can't do but men can.
    These are existing natural traits for us to coexist together as a whole in this world and in life.
    Differences are not the problem. It only makes us to work our brains out to think of how to utilize each differences to find a solution to many problems in life, big and small.
    Men thinking they are better than women is such a big/major problem in every household. If it keeps going, it's gonna keep ruining every next new generations.

      To my knowledge it is safer than the city I’m at that’s for sure but I can’t confirm exactly how safe it is since I’m not there, which is also why I can’t be sure about the bus route. In general if you’re in the country I would highly recommend a personal driver to get you from place to place though since they know the country and the best routes, even if they do end up being more expensive.

      You are absolutely right I had actually forgotten to add in the text specifying where you may run into certain things more than others, though the majority are things you’ll run into everywhere in some capacity.
      We also did leave the disclaimer at the beginning to try to be real about there being a difference between everyone’s experience since we all run into different things because that’s just how it’s always going to be. I know people who are so isolated from society that nothing that I said would pertain to them but the majority of people I know run into these things on the daily, and family and friends that live in other parts of the country have seen these things as well the three of us included. But yeah I’ll try to be more specific where I can with the added details I tend to put into the videos.

    GM ACE and all, WHY is so much food FRIED >??? Ecuador

    • @GMAceM
      @GMAceM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey B. Pe!
      Aside from the fact that it’s something cultural (the foods like corviche and empanadas and such are all Ecuadorian food), there’s the fact that they’re very easy to make, very inexpensive to make as well as being inexpensive to buy for consumers.
      This part I’m not sure if I’d call it culture or just going back into the fact that people don’t tend to have a lot of money, but it’s uncommon for a large part of the population to go out and want to spend a lot on food, especially street food. The cheapest foods you can find are always these fried products because as soon as you start going into restaurants and such, meals start becoming more expensive at $3+, which might not seem like a lot but if you compare it to a .50 cent empanada or even a $1.00 corviche, you instantly think “why would I buy one meal for $3 when I can have 6 empanadas or 3 corviches.
      And there’s a whole conversation to be had when it comes to why food is so cheap which I just had with my dad since he has a food business but what he said were things that I for the most part already knew, just that he summarized it in a more formal way. I will probably talk about that at a later date but just to answer the question, fried food is cheap not only to make but also for people to buy.
      Thanks for watching! 👏🏼

      It seems to depend on the timing and the social class. My friends have run into many stuck up people where they were at, many rude people on the streets, but they have amazingly sweet people as friends. You can find all kinds of people similarly to how you would in the states, you just never really expect before you come that any of them would be like this.

      @@Globalpolitics_2024 you’re the best Daniel, glad you got to check them out. But yeah it really is hit or miss sometimes with people and I still don’t know 100% what makes people into that but if I had to take others word for it and make a hypothesis based on past experiences, I’d say it’s social standing. I’ve known people to not talk to or get along with others just because they’re of a higher social standing. Sometimes they’ll be in the same place, like a party or such and maybe in spots like that there’ll be mingling but the general overall reality I feel is just knowing that there’s all kinds of people here and unfortunately some of them aren’t the best. the only other thing I could think of is just family values and how heavily people have been influenced by the internet. Mark Horning (the next guest on tomorrow’s podcast) and I talked about something that I noticed. How a lot of the younger generation doesn’t want to “say hi to everyone” and some feel like it’s antiquated and shouldn’t be a thing. I get where they’re coming from, and I respect it, but that’s a part of the culture here that I feel could start to get lost in future generations to come.
      Hopefully when you’re here, the city you’re in has some cool people, if not then we’ll search them out lol. I definitely would say that going to the area and maybe stopping by the neighbors places before coming to live permanently would be a great idea so that you can see how the environment you’re in is gonna be.
