Love the videos of different cars from newer to older. This car was my childhood dream but obviously moved on.. it’s great to see a video like this that’s in depth and up close as I’ve never had the chance to look at these in person like this

The VT, VX, VY and VZ, the Generation III Commodores, all featured the LS1 5.7L V8 also found in the C5 Corvette and 4th Gen Camaro.
The LS1 was introduced in 1999 with the introduction of the VT Series 2, which dropped the 5.0L Holden V8 (Known as the "Iron Lion"), and saw Holden now sourcing its V8 engines from GM in Detroit.
The LS1 in the VT Series 2 was only rated for 220 kW, heavily detuned compared to the numbers of the C5 Corvette or even Camaro.
When the VX launched, the LS1 now produced 225 kW, thanks to some tweaks made by Holden.
VY Series 1 models had 235 kW, and VY Series 2 models (Excluding Berlina and Calais) had 245 kW.
By the time of the VZ Commodore, the LS1 now produced 250 kW, and the VZ Monaro produced 260 kW.
HSV models produced more in LS1 guise, with the HSV GTO coupes having either 270 or 285 kW depending on model.
In January 2006, Holden updated the VZ with the "MY06" range (Effectively a Series 2 facelift), which, due to emissions, meant Holden had to drop the LS1 V8, instead replacing it with the Gen IV L76 6.0L V8, which was also used in the VE Series 2.
Difference being that the VZ L76 V8 had Cylinder Shutdown technology (AFM) disabled.
Early V8 VE models up to 2009 were powered by the L98 6.0L V8 (A derivative of the LS2, but not quite the same), and in 2009, the L76 was fitted to automatic V8 VE models.
The last of the VE Series 2 used the L77 6.0L V8 (As did the Series 1 VF). Basically as a runout thing before the new VF arrived in 2013.
Early VE HSV models were powered by the LS2 6.0L V8, but Series 2 was when the VE HSV models were fitted with the 6.2L LS3.
As for regular Commodores, the LS3 was not factory fitted until the VF Series 2 in 2015.
    TL:DR:
VT (Series 2 only), VX, VY, VZ: 5.7L LS1 V8 (With varying power figures ranging from 220 kW in VT, to 260 kW in 2005 VZ models)
    VZ (MY06): 6.0L L76 V8 (Cylinder shutdown technology disabled)
    VE (Automatic until 2009 and all manuals until 2010): 6.0L L98 V8
VE Series 2: 6.0L L76 V8 (With cylinder shutdown technology)
    VE (2012 and 2013 models only), and VF Series 1: 6.0L L77 V8
    VF Series 2: 6.2L LS3 V8

How big is the boot on these?
Can you fit 2 sets of golf clubs and 2 buggys?

GM actually owned Lotus from 1986-1993, hence why Lotus used a lot of GM parts bin items

That is true. The indicator stalks are the same on the lotus elise and Lotus Carlton, which I think the lotus Carlton shared the same platform as the VN Commodore.

@vxcommodorewagon3.8 why buy a petrol guzzling dinosaur when there are faster options to start with. I can outrun a vx ss in a 1.5 turbo that uses 8L/100km. Enjoy your boat anchor lol

@vxcommodorewagon3.8 true true I do like the falcon GE over the VE calias. It's part of Aussie culture modifying it then doing skids at local carpark.
