Honestly, which classical drama is better fitted? 🤔 Today's TV is only about real murders, fictive murders and "reality shows" (what 'reality'??) where figuratively stab wounds, preferably in the back, are shared from minute 1. Yet I must say, I prefer Macbeth and Titus Adronicus. It was more passion in the the bloodshed in those times! 😂 Not to forget the original stories of 'One thousand and one nights'. Could also describe "reality shows" on TV, even more more or less concealed sex and brutal violence. A piece of literature Ron brought into "The Great Adventures of Sparks" 20 years ago. Scheherazade.
One of their most beautiful ballads next to "She's Beautiful - So What?", "I've Never Been High", and "Those Mysteries". A fitting closer to one corker of an album. :-)
But they're not bitter about it. Regular people don't get them, because Sparks have multi-layered paradoxes that even i don't completely understand, which is great.
I'm reading Macbeth with my Grade Tens right now and this song happily plays in the back of mind every class. At the end of the play study, I will share this amazing song with them. I hope they appreciate it as much as I do. Just another reason why Sparks is one of the greatest groups ever.
Love Macbeth. Do you teach about the pagan vs Christian worlds colliding? I think maybe that doesn't get mentioned even in the GCSE student guides, maybe a bit advanced -- but fascinating.
In a world where Drake and Taylor Swift are superstars, it means that this world (excepting the loyal fans) Is not ready for the great talent of these brothers. We hope Sparks can be with us forever.
Your last sentence... God forbid that they pass away... I'm 13 years younger than Russell, I'm ok with closing my door at 80-85. THEY DON'T DARE go before that 😡. Do your own math, but I've planned they will be very old... 😉😃😍
Nostalgia for Propaganda brought me here. Imagine my shock and delight when I realized that Sparks has been quietly continuing to grow and evolve ever since! I have to be eternally grateful to youtube for this knowledge, since I never would have heard any of the rest of their immense catalogue without it. Now all I do is dick around, listening to Sparks, and learning all the lyrics.
I don't think the Mael brothers have ever produced a bad album. All these years later beginning as Halfnelson in the late '60s -- and then becoming Sparks for decades -- on virtually every major record label under the sun. Simply an incredible duo. Never running out of ideas and executing everything brilliantly. These artists -- Ron and Russell -- are to be admired and relished. R&R Hall of Fame? Better eat your steak, peas and mashed potatoes, they're getting cold and we only have the limo for two hours. Who do we nominate next year? Do they have to play their own instruments? Hell no. We'll hire the musicians. Maybe we should reconsider Milli Vanilli then...what about Sparks? You mean Jordin Sparks? Jesus. Give me a drink...

Saw the NYC show a couple weeks ago. Astonishing. I have the picture disk double LP, and at first i thought this song was kind of boring. I was wrong. It's a masterpiece.
Wow. I'm not sure I ever heard this band, but I was really surprised to hear something decent in my Shazam recommendations, as opposed to generic contemporary pop/EDM. A great song, by all definitions.
I'm glad i could be helpful. It's my favourite, openly speaking. Did this piece with another text for a cabaret session 3 years ago and found it extremely difficult to sing ;-)
TheAkelei I didn't even try yet, but it sounds like it's not only sung in falsetto, but the vocal parts are mostly broken chords, which makes them kinda hard to hit right, especially fast.
One thing is sure: Rebecca Sjöwall is best female singer in general! She has a very touching voice and that's unique. The best male singer in classical music is Luciano Pavarotti, but apart from that Russell Mael is the best singer! Because he also has got such a unique voice that is very touching. That's why I call him the singing genius. And maybe that's why Rebecca and Russell sound so perfect together. So wonderful and beautiful! Thank you both for sharing your incredible talent with us, who don't have it! And of course we mustn't forget the man, without whom there would be no Sparks songs: Ron Mael, the song writing genius! Thank you Ron, for all the brilliant songs you write! I had to write that down now, because it's really heartfelt. I cannot thank you enough!

@@FlipFlopMom Thank you so much! Russell has such a beautiful purity to his voice, doesn't he? He's a great duet partner. And Ron has such love for the voice, especially sopranos. I'm grateful for our collaborations. And I'm grateful for your words. Thank you again!
Amazing😄💓! Wonderful music and another clever lyrics. Brilliant comment on what many people watch on TV. The only differenses between Shakespeare's works and the crap shown on TV today is standard, to Shakespeare's favour, and number of acts. Anyone heard of Dallas? 😉😆 And of course, Shakespeare knew how to shed blood, brutally. Sparks just keep on delivering, if there is a God, will he become upset if I say "Thank You for giving Earth theese men"? "What the hell is it this time?" "Oh, sorry..." 😉
Long time Sparks fan and love this. My only question to Russell is, why can't you pronounce "MacBeth"? I know it will pass most by but I am Scottish ffs.
While a rating of "R" may be generous / All that blood [OK, no blood] and ambition so onerous / Our public, the public, enthused / Life with the McHenrys is now on view.
My take on this song is that it is a parody of reality TV. The Macbeths...The ultimate American dysfunctional family, exposing their sorded lives on National TV for the titillation of Ignorant TV viewers in order to be exploited by a network out to make a quick buck.
Sparks, in this track you legacy of king Louis xiv. Don't know how, but I dream to work with you, I'm Michael plavinski - teacher, choreographer and would like to make a choreography dance in Your symptoms. Maybe You will be interested. With great respect Michael Plavinski.
listening to this late at night with a quality brandy is as good as it gets
Absolute genius. Only Ron mael would think of turning macbeth into a TV show where the murders are real in order to attract higher ratings.

@@annabackman3028 Also, Macbeth is - to some extent - about the coming of the ultimate British House, The Stewarts / Stuarts. Good old Shaky!
One of their most beautiful ballads next to "She's Beautiful - So What?", "I've Never Been High", and "Those Mysteries". A fitting closer to one corker of an album. :-)

While a rating of “R” may be generous
All that blood and ambition so onerous
Our public, the public, enthused
Life with the Macbeths is now on view
As the cameras are rolling

But our lifestyle demands
That we hide our sighs
One season, that’s all you’ll see
As the lady inspires me to depths unseen
Killing all in my way
Some will yell “obscene”
The ratings are off the charts
Life with the Macbeths
Both tart and smart
Our public, the public, enthused
Ambition leads to murder
A royal reign of terror
The critics split in fervor
Some not that into murder

A dig at the audience for "Game Of Thrones"?
Yrret Ksif i got an NFL vibe for some reason
LOL!!! With John Facentas' voice over it, stating, "It was a cold gray afternoon in Green Bay............."
Who is the women?
Rebecca Sjowall
Thank you! Wonderful.
Rebecca Sjöwall also attended at "The seduction of Ingmar Bergman".
I supose that all of you know that ALL the voices are from Russell.
No. Rebecca Sjöwall greatly does a great part here.
Russell (at least was in his youth) a counter tenor, not soprano.
