  • Fair Isle brick and mortar pattern using the Needle Beetle and the Brother KX350 knitting machine. This stitch will be incorporated into a Christmas stocking in my next video. I am using Dollar Tree Just Yarn in this video but most worsted weight yarns would work fine.
    The Needle Beetle is available at Kriskrafter.com and works on many different plastic hobby machines. Be sure to order the correct one for your machine.
    If you haven't seen my first videos on Faster Fair Isle, they may be helpful as I go into greater detail about the technique.

    The past 5 yrs I have made Christmas stockings using the Brick Stitch. Makes a unique looking
    stocking - the look of a chimney. Got the pattern from a Bond Knitting Book from the 80's

      Yes, someone posted a picture of that old pattern yesterday and I was coincidentally looking for an 8 stitch Christmas themed pattern to do a Fair Isle stocking, so that inspired me to draw this stitch pattern and work it into a stocking. I wanted mine to be all over Fair Isle. I like how it came out.

      @@AnnaHaferman : Love your work. Got a lot of compliments on the shawl I made from your asymmetrical shawl tutorial. Looking for my next project. Got the Weaver-R tool for my KX350/390.

    Thank you so much this pattern is awesome. I will buy the Needle Beedle, but i am not sure what the shipping costs are. I live here in Austria and i don´t know how high the custom fees are...here in Austria knitting machines are not so popular and it´s very difficult to become some stuff for it... please excuse my english.. it´s a long time ago since i had learned it in school.. and i have forgot a lot of it.. i hope you can understand me..

    I have a question? Can't seem to find a machine video on. How can you hide those floats in back? What are some good options? Love your videos

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well... it depends what you want to make. Usually if you're making a sweater, the floats are on the inside of the garment. If you wanted to make a blanket, you could knit a backing in plain stockinette and attach the two pieces.

      @@AnnaHaferman new to knitting and these floating pieces was wondering if there was a way to knit them under the row like in crochet? Thanks for the idea of a single piece backing very helpful

    Stumbled across your video. Very pretty design. I'm interested in flatbed knitting but know nothing about the machines or where to to start to buy one. I did see a video that used punch cards, are those machines desirable? So interesting to watch

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, punchcard machines are very desirable, but it depends on condition as they are almost always second-hand. If you buy one, you either need to buy from a reputable person who can verify that it's complete and in good working condition, or buy one that you will need to do maintenance on before it is ready to use. The maintenance can sometimes be easy- i.e. changing a sponge bar or difficult- fixing a stuck carriage, etc. I don't recommend that an absolute beginner buy a machine that needs to be re-habbed as it's difficult to know how to fix a machine that you don't know how to use. I sometimes sell machines on my eBay page and make sure they are in working condition before I sell them.

    I haven't tried this yet but I'm curious: how do you get the colors to stay in one piece, if you know what I mean?

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean without holes between the colors? Sometimes it works better than others. I don't recall having any trouble with this pattern with the yarn and tension I used.

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I am looking at the video and it looks like I steamed this swatch which helps. I used light steam as this was acrylic; if you use wool you can wet block it.

    • @aymonharris5783

      Like if I wanted to knit a blue square on a pink background, wouldn't there be giant holes on the sides?

      @@aymonharris5783 Do you mean like intarsia? I have a video on intarsia that shows how to do it. You have to wrap the needles when you change colors.
