I personally use the AC-3 and it's been a lifesaver. It prevents me from having to carry three additional guitars in the various tunings my band plays in when we play shows. My preset is the Jumbo modeler, body at noon, top at 3 o'clock. The thing is, with this pedal, you CAN NOT run it into a guitar amp. It has to be run out from the Direct Output into a full range system/PA. If you run it into your guitar amp, you'll get a hiss in the top as the mid-range speakers in your guitar amp can't handle the excessive highs. Like I said, I love it. I wouldn't record with it, but it gets the job done live. I also own the AM400. It is a substandard product compared to the Boss AC-3. Like I said, I play in basically three tunings: 7 string standard, 6 string D standard, and 6 string in dropped C tuning. With the AM400 when I hit the low strings, the sound mysteriously cuts in and out rhythmically for whatever reason. No good. Waste of money. The low E string in standard plays fine but it won't take much lower than that. If you're trying to decide whether to cop out and get the cheaper unit, don't. If you play metal or jazz and you go lower than E, get the Boss pedal. Just my .02.
The Behringer ADI21 is one of the best DI boxes available. I have tried every one that there is and this one out shines them all. It makes an acoustic guitar into an PA sound outstanding, and into an electric amp sound outstanding. It even makes single coils on a Strat, or Tele on clean sound outstanding by giving them a boost. Even sound good with humbuckers on clean into an electric amp.
Never really used acoustic sims for the purpose of sounding acoustic. Rather I always used them to get 'cleaner' cleans. I find that much more doable than trying to sound exactly like an acoustic
The bosses go for $150+ in the states. Went to eBay and found the same exact thing for $30 brand new from Japan. I couldn't believe my eyes. Yes it took nearly two months of waiting but after testing I'm positive it's not counterfeit because it's the only pedal (after testing around ten) that sounds that much like an acoustic guitar and I seriously doubt the counterfeiters would've taken the time to copy every component. A good percentage (but not all) of my experienced friends can't tell the difference between a high quality recording of this and a real acoustic. I really, really love that thing.
I think a lot of people are missing the point. These are not for replacing acoustic guitars, rather they are aimed at electric players who may have an acoustic section to play in a song. To have the ability to switch your rocked out humbuckers to an approximation of an acoustic for a few measures can be crucial.!
Good demo. I play both acoustic and electric guitar. With the boss pedal it actually sounded like an acoustic was being played. With the Behringer it still sounded like an electric with some effects on it. So I would go for the Boss pedal.
It's for doing songs live that require switching between acoustic and electric guitars, an example would be fade to black, to play that live it would help to have an acoustic simulator so it sounds like it does on the actual song .
the Boss demo for the AC-3 wasdone with a Fender Strat with a line out to an acoustic amp for the simulation and a line out to an elelctric amp when the simulator wasn't engaged . . . and the acoustic simulation sounded great in the acoustic amp!
This was a good demo, I have always wondered about those type of pedals for years but was too skeptical to even bother trying one or even TH-cam, now it's confirmed, it pretty much just sounds like your volume knob is turned 2/3 of the way down. Now I know, not to buy one. Thanks!
if u wanna know what a behrenger pedal sounds like, use a boss and put a soaking wet blanket over ur amp. it doesn't even sound remotely acoustic, it just muddies the clean. A+ to boss tho!
I agree the Boss sounded a little better. I think the best one for the money IMO is any of the zoom acoustic modelers, A2, or A3. The fishman aura is amazing, as is the LR Baggs but they get pricy quick.
I normally don't use these, seeing as i'm pretty comfortable with electric guitar sounds, but i'm gonna try to slap a Behringer AM-100 on my Danelectro DC-12 and see how that sounds.. I have one sitting in my basement and it's been there for ages, so we'll see
With the reverb on and being put through an amp makes the Behringer sound so electric like. I bet if you pushed the acoustic line through a DI box with less reverb it would sound better. It sounded great, but not like an accoustic.
the direct out on the pedal was supposed to be routed towards the line in or aux in of any electric amp because otherwise it would overdrive the amp like the behringer does in the video the boss did not overdrive it just because it has a relatively low output
Hmm, every setting on the Behringer sounds the same to me. Improved the tone, but nothing like an acoustic. The Boss sounded great though, w/ some settings almost like an actual acoustic, at least to my ears.
Hey TTK, why don't you use a looper when you fiddle with the knobs? It would be a lot easier to show the possible sounds of the stompboxes. You could play your signature riffs and follow it up with some looper samples without having to interrupt your playing to change the gain, mids, etc.
Hi...I know u made this video a long time ago...I think u should have run the out strait to the sound card or mixer desk...that will give you a better acoustic guitar simulation...as u had say...with the direct out to the rest of your pedal board or distortion...Probably you have try this already...I was checking just the dif on the behringer from the am100 to the 400...and it was the reverb...
That's exactly what it's for. When you engage the acoustic simulation, you can let it go into a different output. Different amp, different routing, straight to PA. Whatever.
It would be cool if you did some different wah pedals etc. You know, maybe differences between a wylde wah and slash wah and stuff like that. Would be cool :D
only reason i want one eventually is because to combine speed with my electric to my accoustic electric accoustic guitars on my strat and variable differences between songs
of course these are midelers, but of the two demoed, the boss more acoustic like. and if these 2 were the only ones that made acoustic modelers, I would choose the boss because it sounds more like a genuine acoustic. the Berninger sounded more like a clean electric with single coils.
U made me want a boss ac 2. at first i didnt think much about acustic simulators but now i think i can use it ( before i had only heart the ones on cheap multi effects and i dindnt like them) thank now i have something to add to my peadal board
Seeing as you've started with acoustic sounds how about some acoustic guitar modelling pedals like the range fishman have? We acoustic players need some love too TTK! I love simpliclity. I love acoustics.
just sounds like varied clean channels. Never heard any acoustic sound like any of the above. a dude from 12 foot ninja uses an iphone app and it sounds totally awesome. think i'll go that way instead
never looked into these, but definitely good to know. what do you recommend for thickening up solos? Chorus pedal or Octave pedal? There's a sweet MXR BLS Chorus that I would love to see your review on. Rock on!
hi tone kinizer! where it should be in chain? by the way is this a modulation pedal like phaser chorus etc? whee is the best spot for acoustic pedal in the pedalboard? please advice. thanks!
I'd like to hear you strumming using Behringer AM400 - like you did the Boss AC-2 pedal, and that's what actually interested me the most about Behringer acoustic modeler. Also, what kind of sound can you get using electric and Behringer ADI21? Is it also possible to get acoustic sound?
Hey there! I really like your videos TTK! I just wanna say my opinion for this kind of pedals. I believe that someone needs an acoustic sound from an electric guitar, he is just wastng time working with a pedal. I dont say that one of these cant change your sound closer to an acoustic but cant really give you the feel mid-high ranges an acoustic has. GET AND ACOUSTIC AND IF YOU DO LIVE SESSIONS JUST CHANGE GUITAR! This is just my opinion! Rock On! (sorry for bad english ;P)
Your wrong about the AC-2 not having reverb if you actually read the manufacture specs the reverb amount is built into the guitar type you choose and is not accessable but its there.
Hey thanks for the demos. I was wondering if any of the acoustic simulators can be used and have a blend of your electric and acoustic. I understand if you run the guitar out to an amp and the direct to the board, when you kick in the pedal your 'guitar to amp output' is bypassed and you only get the line out to board signal. I would like to have both at times.
@houseband239 probably because not everyone has alot to spend on gear, these demos help show the more affordable pedals out there (since most demos are of boutique expensive gear).
@fourthlayer I agree, but check out a review video for the new Boss AC-3 acoustic simulator if you dont watch the video you would think that he is playing an acoustic. its on ProGuitarShopDemos, somewhere in there.
I'm kind of suprised you did a 2nd acoustic pedal one... But then I heard it, and I'm glad you did. It sounds a LOT better then your last one. It actually sounds like an acoustic guitar! Well, the BOSS did, the Behringer still didn't make a difference... Also, is that a Google hoodie? =P
@DemirGuitar94 What you said is true, but I think you totally missed the point of what these stompboxes are made for. They can be useful when you are playing live and don't want to carry an acoustic guitar, or if you have to play an acoustic part in the middle of a song and you don't have the time to switch instrument. They do sound fake, but at least they sound closer to an acoustic than the normal electric guitar tone.
@GuernB2 You should also be aware that the colors are wrong it if was google. google isnt red, yellow, blue - - - as those letters are, google is blue, red, yellow, blue...
2 individual outputs enable easy switching between electric and acoustic guitar sounds when using 2 separate amps? or can i use one amps for electric to acoustic???
I'm actually curios about those pedals against the Boss AC 3, I had tried an AC 2 & didn't liked the sound... the reviews I've seen the AC 3 sound better than the Ac2, ich is kinda obious hahah but can you make a little review of it compared to this old versions of it??? or even the other little more expensive acustic procesors..??? well I made my suggestion thanx anyway the videos are really helpful ;)
I think the boss is the one that sounded the most like an acoustic guitar, but sounded like shit while doing so. The Behringer on the other hand though sounded beautiful in my opinion.
which is more real? behringer or boss? I like behringer products, ive a lot of stuff but this one isnt seems like an acoustic. however, boss also passes long from a acoustic. Maybe the controls of amp or pre-amp is not flat or these pedals works better with a humbuckered guitars.
It seems that the pedal out goes directly into the V3... You have to compare the pedals directly into a mixer and not into a guitar amp... They have not high frequencies.
Nice riff in the beginning. What song is it, it sounds familiar? Great vid! I thought the Behringer sounded much better than the Boss (I know that's not politically correct, and probably makes me guitarded). Oh well ;)
another excellent demo. Too bad neither of these pedals sound like an acoustic. The boss comes closest with the attempt to EQ out the electric tone, however. they both maintain that original electric character.
Wonder why he thought demo'ing the level knob response/effect was unimportant. It's not like the pedal has 12 knobs on it. If these guys didn't focus on what they were playing so much they might actually do a useful review. How many chords does it take to demo 1 setting?
hey guys... i have the behringer vintage overdrive pedal and i want another for acoustic clean sound, which one you suggesting me to buy? i think am400 it's nice, but i didn't ever tried it.. does anyone prefer other? think about the price... thnx :)
I have a question about behringer pedals. Alright, currently i have three pedals. An ibanez ds7 distortion pedal, a boss chromatic tuner(which needs replacing ) and a cry baby wah pedal. So, my pedals are all metal material. My obvious question about behringer pedals are the strength of the pedal. I know the pedals are plastic and i dont hammer on my pedals recklessly. Still, how much of a beating can the plastic body take? I should note that my ibanez pedal i had for like 10 years or so, same with my wah pedal (which could be replaced), and i think my boss tuner has seen way better days but was a hand-me-down.my ibanez pedal still works like a charm. Thanks in advance!
***** look into Joyo pedals I have a bunch of them including their chromatic tuner. metal cases tru bypass half the price of Boss. not knocking boss I own a few of them too
***** I agree! Joyo pedals are great choice! Very small, affordable and the best of all they sound great! Also you may check out Mooer pedals or Tone City, all of 'em have metal cases. Do not even look on Behringer. They sound terrible and don't worth the money. They just screw your sound!

Hey did u know that behringer and boss sell tuningpedals?

Any acoustic modelers works great with single coil pickups, With humbuckers, as for me they make the clean just more brightened.
TK! Chorus pedal shoot out!!! MXR Black Label Chorus vs Boss Chorus Ensamble vs (Insert Behringer Chorus)
With the reverb on and being put through an amp makes the Behringer sound so electric like. I bet if you pushed the acoustic line through a DI box with less reverb it would sound better. It sounded great, but not like an accoustic.

On your Tele, which pickups are you using neck, bridge, or both? Which one sounds the best with the Boss AC-3?
When you opened the video, you were playing thru the AC unit, and it sounded great. Do you remember the settings?
The Acoustic modeler on my Digitech RP-255 doesn't sound too bad. But they have their place.

Rock on!
hi tone kinizer!
where it should be in chain? by the way is this a modulation pedal like phaser chorus etc? whee is the best spot for acoustic pedal in the pedalboard?
please advice. thanks!
I find AC simulators only sound decent with single coils or a coil tapped humbucker and maybe a P-90 with the volume rolled back. Good review though.
hi, nice video. can you mix the acoustic sound with the electric sound of the guitar so that it sounds distorted and as well acoustic?
Did you ever notice any hissing from the AM400? I just received mine and the hissing gets worse the more I add the attack. Do I have a bad pedal?
I'd like to hear you strumming using Behringer AM400 - like you did the Boss AC-2 pedal, and that's what actually interested me the most about Behringer acoustic modeler.

i would like to see a digitech jimi hendrix wah pedal. great videos!!!!!
I just got the am400nhow do I do that ro my distortion pedal I can't see what goes in out put and direction out
Is that a fender hh tele blacktop
@houseband239 probably because not everyone has alot to spend on gear, these demos help show the more affordable pedals out there (since most demos are of boutique expensive gear).

what about a 365 pedals 365 days every year??! Thumbs up!!
@martlgr probably not bad if its the last pedal.
never tried, but id imagine if it was the first pedal it would be just weird.
How do they sound in a pedal chain?
@DemirGuitar94 What you said is true, but I think you totally missed the point of what these stompboxes are made for. @slipknotandmh I do declare, that is a Rockerverb, I believe.
@GuernB2 You should also be aware that the colors are wrong it if was google.
google isnt red, yellow, blue - - - as those letters are, google is blue, red, yellow, blue...
how about some effect pedals and tone shaping pedals
hey ttk love this series man telecaster perfect for acoustic simulator
@TheRoflc0pterz yeah but you have to use a strat, whit single coils!!
Nice video but you need more lighting mate!
2 individual outputs enable easy switching between electric and acoustic guitar sounds when using 2 separate amps? or can i use one amps for electric to acoustic???
TTK! how about wahs, delays?
thumbs up for tripping billies

I wish someone would demo these with an acoustic.

how about vidio with stuff like the sonic stomp
Yup, boss AC-3 sounds better., but what about AM-400 (Behringer Ultra Acoustic Modeler)??
It seems that the pedal out goes directly into the V3...
You have to compare the pedals directly into a mixer and not into a guitar amp...
They have not high frequencies.
@chialialo he just rolls off the tone on his neck pickup i think.
Nice riff in the beginning. What song is it, it sounds familiar? Great vid! I thought the Behringer sounded much better than the Boss (I know that's not politically correct, and probably makes me guitarded). Oh well ;)
I think that's because of the low attack he kept on the behringer
Boss wins this shootout by a mile.
I didn't heard the acoustic guitar sound out of behringer AM400
Why so many behringer pedals, TTK?
does any one knows what effects does the guess who uses in the lead guitar in american woman?
Turn the lights up.
great video,,,great stuff!!!
YES!
Octave Pedals!
another excellent demo. Too bad neither of these pedals sound like an acoustic. The boss comes closest with the attempt to EQ out the electric tone, however. they both maintain that original electric character.

can't get rid off of that lows there?
At least he didn't try to get a high gain tone out of it.
okay - thought it was just ME!
