Unfortunately, my brand new 2001 ZX2 was a lemon. Constantly shutting off at highway speeds (several trips to Ford, who found nothing). The hood refused to open for 2 months! It was the last of many Fords I owned.
I had a 2001 back in 2006 for about a year during my final months in college and yeah I remember it being surprisingly peppy plus it was the cheapest newest car I could find at the time - Almost 20 years later and I still have good memories of it - Thinking of looking for a first-gen Ford Focus hatchback for my daughter's first car.
I turned one year with mine just last month, and my god i love it. Got it in not a such good condition, but with some money and work spent on it, it gets everyday just a little bit better
Preferred the earlier Escort GT (1991-97) but the ZX2 was a pretty good car at the time, and there were several models in this class of 2 door sporty coupe. No more these days unfortunately.
We bought one of these for my wife on new years day, 1998. It was a pretty heavily optioned Hot model with sport package. It was a really fun car, but it wasn't great in snow. She had to trade it for a Subaru a few years later.
I had a 98 ZX2 that I had for 2 days when the dealer called me to tell me Ford changed the incentives for the 2000 ZX2 so I got a new one for $30 more a month.

These cars were surprisingly reliable and had a good power. The manual transmission was extremely fun to drive and had a good acceleration.

I hadoneback in 2005 it was a used 1999 and I loved it. Man that car had power. ❤❤❤❤

Ford Escort is best little car
Love this. My bro had a 98 when I was 12. I got a 2000 back in 2015. Always thought these were cool
I love this Escort ZX2 and wagon. Escort is icon car
THIS WAS A FUN CAR.
Had 223,000 on my manual Zx2 before I gave it away. These were long lasting cars IF you had a manual.
😅😢
gone through four autos on my 03, all the manuals have been holding up fine so far 200,000 miles +
My 98 had 300000 when I totaled it. Best car I ever had.
These were underrated.
I love this generation of Ford Escort, wagon is my favorite

Yes! The escort GT was lighter, had disc brakes (most ZX2 had rear drums) and the Mazda 1.8 was definitely more lively. The GT was also quicker.
I’ve always liked these for some reason, the last year model in 2003 looked really cool with its one year only front end.
The front and specifically the headlight arrangement always reminded me a bit of the 1992 Lexus sc300 /400 which, I have to say, I found pretty funny.

That makes sense. I got my 2000 for a couple grand less than they're saying these 98s were
This and the final generation Mercury Cougar were both considered successors to the Ford Probe.
No v6, but one does fit...loved mine
duratec?? 2.5l?? tight fit sir!!!
I forever regret trading my 100k ZX2 😭😭😭😭😭
I have the opportunity to pick up a 98 with 115K miles
it was a long ford aspire, basically.
Only is the Aspire was a Mazda Protege
Not even close. ZX2 is based from the Escort.
