@@AlexhounderThegreat thanks so much. Seeing all these perfect houses and home libraries just doesn't do it for me. I can't relate to it so I'm trying to create a space online for normal lives ❤️
I just wanted to pop onto say thank you Tyrone. Been going through a shit time recently because of mental health etc and being able to see someone going through similar things on here provides me at least with a little hope for the future. Anyway I’m just going to ramble on. Thanks Tyrone
Just added “And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer And Longer” to my TBR. It immediately caught my attention, I helped my Mom care for my Granny who eventually passed due to complications of Alzheimer’s. I know it’s going to break me down but I want to read it. I’ll wait until I’m in need a good cry. Thank you very much for this video!!
You could try Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett :) That's book 1 - I really enjoyed it and it stands well on its own. It's a very different fantasy faerie vibe, written as journal entries so it's a bit different. One thing almost put me off because she does use footnotes (in her own journals, what??) a bit - but it's much more prominent near the very beginning, really tapers off so do persevere with that and to be honest you can just ignore them LOL.
For discworld all of the books can be read as stand alone, but some are subseries and you may get more out of it in order of the subseries. Spread book joy has a video on where to start with discworld and it's not with book 1. I would suggest, for dragons, start with guards guards, many start with mort which is the death series (I did) but it might be worth reading a blurb and see what interests you, check if it's in a sub series and go from there. I only keep books that I love or want to reread. I'm currently on a read what you own challenge (inspired by bookolly) so I need to read and get rid of 10 (don't have to be the same 10) before I can buy another 1 but I can use library and everand subscription if I want to read something I don't own but I need to get through my owned books if I can as I have piles of books as well a very full bookshelves in my living room I need to work through. Once I've done my first 10, my husband and son with role dice again so I will have to read and unhaul between 2 and 12 next time and keep going until my books all fit on book shelves. Hopefully by then I'll have switch out of buying mode for books a little .
I do the exact same thing, if I love a book or know I will reread I keep it, if I won't reread it or didn't love it that much I'll give it to charity. Just not enough space! Love your vids as always!!
I hope you don't know anything about Ender's game going in, love that book. Book 2 is also like a stand alone, it's the same main character in speaker for the dead, but so different and thought provoking. You don't need to bother with any of the others or spin offs, but definitely recommend both. Thanks for replying to my comment on blood over bright haven, think I'll leave it till summer, gonna go and buy dungeon crawler book 1 today...😊
@@jwi1085 I'm going into Enders game completely blind. I'm about 50 pages in so far and absolutely love the concept. You're very welcome. Hope you love dungeon crawler carl
Magician! I hope you like it! Let us know when you’re starting it. It’s been too long since I read the first three books so I want to reread them and then continue on.
Kings of the wyld is a good shout! You could read book 1 and not bother with book 2, it follows different characters. It reminds me a lot of dungeon crawler carl, humour wise. Deffo give it a try!
I like to keep my books and I have parted with some that I didn't want to over the years for space reasons, but if I do have a book clear out, I try to get rid of ones which I really didn't like first and then go from there. Kindle and the library are good if you are short on space and if I could afford it, I would convert a lot of my physical paperbacks to kindle, or another e-book format but they've become expensive, so it's better in some ways to keep hold of the paperbacks. With audiobooks, I've started getting some of my favourites in that format because due to health reasons, there might come a time when I can only enjoy them like that, but I can't do every book because of the cost and there are many books that haven't been put into audiobook format yet and will probably remain so. I use the library and borrow books from there if they have it. If you want to learn more about Greek Mythology, there is Robert Graves Greek Myths. It's more of an academic book where the author retells the myths but it is heavy reading. There is some over-lap with Roman Mythology and the Egyptians as the Greeks occupied Egypt for a time before the Romans did, merging some of their gods. It is a rich history. Terry Brooks' Sword of Shannara is pretty much a standalone book - there are other books in the series, but Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, The Wishsong of Shannara and The First King of Shannara are all standalones and not part of a trilogy. Marie Brennan's The Waking of Angantyr is a standalone, too, and it's very Norse themed. Quite a lot of fantasy books are either trilogies or series though and I've not come across many that are true standalone books.
@@craftyhobbit7623 il be honest. I think I just loved looking at my shelves and seeing books haha I do get a fair few from the library and my kindle is rammed. I just want to win the lottery and build a library 🤣
@BookishDadReads awesome! I think he's a really good writer. I must admit, I do prefer a crime book set in the UK for relatability but I'm a big fan. The half burned house by alex north is a pretty awesome stand alone too, if you haven't come across that! Looking forward to seeing how the new series comes along, totally get you with the starting a series and not getting to book 2 😂
Sorry to have suggested you a book you didn’t enjoy. I’ve got empire of the vampire on my shelf currently reading Shadow of the Gods due to your recommendation. Love how you don’t script your videos. They’re real and so are you. Can’t stand some of these videos that have been edited to death so they lose all the character of the person who’s presenting them. Please never change
@@CraigAkhurst-rl5zr noooo please keep the recs coming. I don't expect you to enjoy all mine but that's the beauty of reading isn't it. Thanks so much for your kind words ❤️
I haven't a lot of room so I'm at the stage where I won't buy another book until I've read 2 and taken them to a charity shop. Would love a home library, but it's simply not going to happen. I've put the Fredrick Backman book on my list. I felt the same way about Song of Achilles - my first and only Greek mythology read.
(Sorry for another book to add to your never ending list and to add to the deteriorating library, so many books, so little time)Not necessarily police procedural but crime drama and mystery recommendation being Mystic River by Dennis Lehane, a standalone, Dementia is absolutely horrible 🥲
