Hi, I’m from Azerbaijan. I’m going to move to Canada within a year. (I'm in 10th grade now). Do you think it will be difficult to study to become a lawyer in Kingston, Ontario? Which universities with a law faculty in Kingston or in nearby cities can you recommend to me? Pls answer me🥹
Hello Humna I have a few questions I’d like to ask if you can answer them for me I’d really appreciate. 1. Do international students studying law in Canada get a job after graduation or can they only practice law in their country? 2. Is the LSAT exam of Canada same as the US LSAT? 3. I’m currently senior year of undergrad in New York. Spring is my last semester and I’m hoping to start law school fall 2021. When do you suggest I start working on my LSAT? 4. In terms of law school loans, are there loan options granted to international students? 5. Do you think law school is expensive in the US or Canada? 6. Can you suggest some LSAT practice resources that will guarantee a good LSAT score? 7. Is it true that you can only get a job as a lawyer right out of college only if you’re in an Ivy League?
1. If you complete your legal education & are called to the bar in a Canadian province (ex:nOntario)- you are licensed to practice in Ontario 2. Yup, it's the same 3. That depends on how well prepared you are and the goal score you want- for some people it takes around 6+ months, for others they can prepare in 2-3 months or less. You should probably write a diagnostic test to see where you're at and adjust your study schedule/ study time from there based on the goal score you want. 4. Yes, I believe so- although I'm not too well versed on this! I'm pretty sure international students can also apply for lines of credit, etc. 5. In general, if you're an international student in either country- it's a lot more expensive. Specifically, in the U.S, it really depends on the school you're going to- some schools are a lot more affordable than others. The costs in Canada range from 15-30k+ a year, depending on the school, but the costs are relatively more standardized than U.S schools. 6. Nothing guarantees a good LSAT score- just depends on what method works for you! 7. No, every job ranges in the level of expertise required, and the legal job market is extremely diverse.
I want to pursue my LLM in Canada, I'm from Pakistan and I have done my LLB from here, do I need to take the LSAT to apply to any law school in Canada?
Hey I have a question! In regard to GPA, when a law school says “best two years”, does that mean your best 20 credits? For example, 5 credits from first year, 10 credits from second year, and 5 credits from third year. Or do they mean specific years i.e year one and year three?
From my knowledge, it depends on the school. For example, I've heard that Queen's takes the best two, meaning all your grades from whichever set of two years had the highest GPA (ex: 1+2, 2+3, 3+4, 1+3) so it's not specific to your best 20 credits. I think Ryerson (not 100% sure) takes the best 2 years but measures this on a credit basis, meaning 20 best credits. Hope that helps, but you can always contact the schools to ask how exactly they consider the best two!
How do i submit my transcript to OLSAS? At the moment it says that I submit a transcript request and that my transcript will be sent to OLSAS after I submit on November 1 , so I’m not sure if this is correct.
Great video! I'm only in high school, but what would you recommend doing to be more appealing to law schools (ie, volunteering at a court, going into debate clubs, etc)?
Honestly, you have lots of time since you’re in high school- but I would say to just do any extracurriculars that you find fun/interesting- they don’t have to be related to law or politics. Most of my extracurriculars weren’t related to law- so unless those are opportunities that genuinely interest you, just go for any extracurricular!
Hello Humna. Thank you for replying to my last set of questions. I have two more questions 1. Is November-January the only time you can give your LSAT? 2. Law school admissions are only open for fall?
1. No, there are dates throughout the year. Check the LSAC website for the exact dates. 2. Yes (at least in Ontario), the application deadline is always usually November 1.
@@gracemanturano8069 Yes, you do! I think there may be some exceptions but generally you have to have an undergraduate degree to apply to law school in Canada
When do undergrad students typically write the LSAT? I just finished my first year at Western and am thinking of writing it next summer....is that too soon? should i wait until after 3rd year?
I think there’s no harm in starting early but you have a lot of time between the summer of your second year and when you graduate, so I would recommend writing it seriously the summer before your 3rd year! It’s never too early to start studying though if you have the time :)
Hey! Just wanted to know if I get my bachelors degree for paralegal studies at humber after 4 years could I apply to law school? Or do i need to get a degree from a university?
I think most law schools in Canada require a university degree, but there are some exceptions! I’m not too familiar with those, but I know people in law school who have worked as a paralegal!
Hi Humna. My daughter is only in Grade 10 and is interested in studying Law. She is not sure what stream she should take up for her undergrad as a pathway to Law school. Since I have not studied in this country, I am unable to guide her properly. Could you please throw some light on the possible undergrad pathway to take up, that leads to Law program after graduation ?
Hi, to pursue law, there is no requirement as to what program she should take during undergrad! She can take whatever program interests her and that she will do well in, as there are no pre-requisites to apply to law school in Canada. I would say for her to choose any program that she knows she can do well in and that she enjoys. Hope this helps!
Hey! Im an American thinking of McGill taking my LSAT soon. Is it viable for someone wanting To do comparative law? Im Bilingual in french Also, but Ive never taken a legal class in French
Hey! I think McGill is a great option if you're looking for a bilingual experience, and I don't think taking any kind of legal classes in French would be prerequisites for the program. McGill also has a BCL/JD program (civil law), so it's definitely a unique option as compared to most other law schools in Canada that offer a common law degree!

Hii, im in high school in gr11 and want to become a lawyer in the future, I’ve taken science courses and the one introduction to law course, but I want to get accepted into the York university or the nearby universities in Toronto. Do u know which courses I should be taking in grade11 and 12 in order to reach university and study law in uni and so on? I know high schools don’t matter as much to law schools, but high school marks and courses do matter when applying to a Uni and I want my courses to be accurate ones for getting into the Law field. Let me know any suggestions on what courses I should take for grade12 thanks!
Hey! I remember when I was in your position in high school, and now that I am finishing my undergrad at UofT, I recommend you study what you like! In high school, I focused on English and History, as I naturally excelled in that material and was passionate about it. If you're doing well in science, and want to take the plunge and do a HBSc, totally do it! Ontario Law schools (particularly UofT) want passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds! A degree in science would only boost your chances of admission (along with a strong GPA and LSAT score ofc). There are no courses in high school or undergrad that will prepare you for law school or the legal field - you'd have to go to a law firm to actually see how things are done. And, the point of LAW school is that it teaches you the LAW. So please do not stress what law courses you think you "need" to take now or study in undergrad - frankly, it's a waste. Focus on what you know you are passionate about (if that's law, great! No harm there - but it does NOT increase you chances of getting into law school) and that should get you where you want to go. :) Hope this helped!
@@jesskfca hii first of all thank u so much for ur time for writing a huge paragraph to help me outtt, it means a lottt to me. But actually for some background info, I am not the best in sciences, Especially chemistry and physics im horrible at as well as the maths. I feel like social sciences would be better for me since I’m more of an English and reading and writing person. My fav subject is definitely English, so I’m not into any maths or sciences. If I was I would definitely apply to the science programs in universities. But since I’m not, I’m thinking of applying to the English program idk if it will help me get into law school after uni tho. I’m thinking of taking criminology or history too but I’m not sure yet on what university programs I should take. Since I’m not a math or science person and most programs offer that. But I want to get into the Bachelor of Arts which do include English, history, philosophy, etc. Which programs do you think I should apply to when applying to uni? Also, for grade 12 I have taken: English, law, history, anthropology, psychology, philosophy, business leadership and gym. Do u think I would get accepted into the programs in uni such as criminology, English etc? Since I didn’t take any maths or sciences for next year. I did some research and it says I need English and 5 other 4 U or M courses and but it didn’t specify which ones. So I took ones of my own choice, but will that prevent me from getting into any art programs just because I didn’t take Math or Bio, chem, physics next year?
I would say it all depends on how you frame it in your personal statement! I think generally, most law schools place a fair share of importance on extracurriculars- whether that be in terms of work experience, research experience, volunteer experience etc. But I think it really does depend on how you speak to those experiences in terms of what you've learned from them and how they represent you as a person etc!
Yes, I would say so! There's no definitive experience which is objectively considered "good experience", it all depends on how you speak to your experiences in your application!
@@HumnaWasim okay me too!!but I dont know anyone who did it too. was it hard for you? cus I always hear uoft lifescience students hate it,they could be wrong tho.
hi thanks for the video this helped me loads. im heading to grade 12 this year and im super scared about all this stuff but you made it sound super straight forward and yea it helped me calm down. i have a question though about the autobiographical sketch. that's more of your personal volunteering work and stuff right? im sort of worried about this portion because i get super anxious putting myself in different environments so i was wondering what sort of working/volunteer places and organizations would look best or that you'd recommend? like where to begin on internships and stuff
Hey! Yes the autobiographical sketch is basically every extracurricular activity you've done from volunteering to research work to working a job etc. Firstly, I would say you're really young and you have a lot of time to get more experience, so don't stress too much! :) I would say to just focus on doing what you like to do and that will naturally lead you towards certain internships and opportunities. Don't try to focus too much on doing activities you think are suitable for a law school application. I had a range of different extracurriculars from sports to science research to interning at a mayor's office- just about anything that I was interested in doing. You can also start simply by joining some clubs on campus that interest you and getting involved through that, talk to your professors about potential research/volunteer positions, search up volunteer opportunities etc. Just about anything works! Hope this helps :)
a person might not need an undergrad before applying to law school if they have atleast 5 years of working experience. this is for canadian law schools. i can’t assure it’s the same for other countries tho.

Most of my extracurriculars weren’t related to law- so unless those are opportunities that genuinely interest you, just go for any extracurricular!
@@HumnaWasim Thank you! Will do!
LSAT is taken before going into law school? Like right after high school?
I just started first year of university do you think it’s better to wait till I graduate to apply? Or should I apply in 3rd year?
Need information on It's on line
Why do you think another career should be studied to join the law school in Ontario?
Thank you so much! It was super helpful.
What are the chances of getting admitted to law school with 3 years degree as opposed to four years degree?
Thank you so much. 👍

Hello Humna. Thank you for replying to my last set of questions. I have two more questions
1. Is November-January the only time you can give your LSAT?
2. Law school admissions are only open for fall?
1. No, there are dates throughout the year. Check the LSAC website for the exact dates.
2. Yes (at least in Ontario), the application deadline is always usually November 1.
@@HumnaWasim do you have to go to a university before law school? I’m moving in to Canada from Perú
@@gracemanturano8069 Yes, you do! I think there may be some exceptions but generally you have to have an undergraduate degree to apply to law school in Canada
Completely out of topic but, are you kneeling or sitting?
is the application process different for international students?
When do undergrad students typically write the LSAT? I just finished my first year at Western and am thinking of writing it next summer....is that too soon? should i wait until after 3rd year?
I think there’s no harm in starting early but you have a lot of time between the summer of your second year and when you graduate, so I would recommend writing it seriously the summer before your 3rd year! It’s never too early to start studying though if you have the time :)
I want to do this but I'm sooooooooo nervous I get test anxiety
aw don't worry, the more you practice the more prepared you'll be for test day!
How do you know when you want to be a lawyer
For undergrad did you do a BAH or a BA? (Honours degree or non-honours)
Honours Bachelor of Science :)
Great video! How do you upload reference letters to OLSAS? Does the Professor send it to OLSAS directly? If so, how?
Yes, once you add a referee on OLSAS, your professors will receive a link to submit their reference letters online directly through OLSAS!
Can i give LSAT after 12th from India
Can someone tell me that is it necessary to do graduation ist in order to pursue law....or i can apply for it just after my 12th
You'll have to go to post secondary(university) before you can apply to law school.
What is your subject name ? And university name ??
Thank you for this video ! Can you link a diagnostic test?

Pls answer this. I am in need of help!!! I am an indian student and I am thinking of giving lsat in india will this score count for getting admission in Canadian law school??
The LSAT is conducted through the LSAC. If you're taking the LSAT through the LSAC, then yes, you can apply to Canadian law schools with it.
Can 2 year diploma graduates apply for JD program?
Do you have any insights on how important volunteer experience is towards the applications? :)
If I get a paralegal diploma before law school is that considered good experience
Yes, I would say so! There's no definitive experience which is objectively considered "good experience", it all depends on how you speak to your experiences in your application!
how many times did you write the LSAT? Would you think it risky to try the LSAT multiple times?

Can you please tell me that can we do law after completing high school directly?
No you have to go through 3-4 years university before applying to law school.
@@BigRi22 Ok thankyou so much for your help!
hi thanks for the video this helped me loads. im heading to grade 12 this year and im super scared about all this stuff but you made it sound super straight forward and yea it helped me calm down. i have a question though about the autobiographical sketch. that's more of your personal volunteering work and stuff right? im sort of worried about this portion because i get super anxious putting myself in different environments so i was wondering what sort of working/volunteer places and organizations would look best or that you'd recommend? like where to begin on internships and stuff
I saw this on jawairias ig story. She’s cute btw
Do we need a undergraduate degree before entering in law school ?
In Canada, mostly yes- but there are probably exceptions made for exceptional circumstances.
a person might not need an undergrad before applying to law school if they have atleast 5 years of working experience. this is for canadian law schools. i can’t assure it’s the same for other countries tho.
