- DeFi or decentralized finance is a movement that aims at making a new financial system that is open to everyone and doesn't require trusting intermediaries like banks. To achieve that defi relies heavily on cryptography, blockchain and smart contracts.

It's worth noticing that currently most if not pretty much all of the defi projects are built on Ethereum. The main reason for this is the Ethereum's fairly robust programming language called Solidity that allows for writing advanced smart contracts that can contain all the necessary logic for the defi applications, besides that Ethereum has the most developed ecosystem across all the smart contract platforms with thousands of developers building new applications every day and the most value locked in smart contracts which create an additional network effect. In fact, all the defi protocols mentioned in this video are built on Ethereum.

You’re right to feel that way! In fact TH-cam “U” is superior to legacy brick /mortar institutions. That is, those who know practice (and explain on YT), while those who don’t gain tenure within those tired halls
You kind of need both. TH-cam gives breadth of knowledge but it does not really provide depth. Nothing can substitute doing things yourself and doing the work yourself.

it already is! i go to university of san francisco and my comp sci friends have taken 1 or 2 classes in it
It already is, some of universities in australia has blockchain courses
You can find detailed recorded lectures from MIT on a bunch of crypto topics.
Us old folks don't have to worry about classes, we get grandfathered in!
I work in CEFI and this is really eye opening. Traditional finance will have to change.

Great video... but I'd argue DEFI is actually still just as expensive as CEFI for now.
By the time you've paid to buy crypto, exchange coins, send coins and then withdraw back into fiat... the fees are pretty heavy.
I'm not a noob in DeFi, I was studying hard about it since 5-6 months ago. But you f*ck*d my mind in 12:23 minutes in an awesome mode. This is without dude the best information about DeFi that I founded on Internet. I can only say you congratulations and I spect that you'll continue doing this for decades.
I'm very new to this and only had knowledge around regular stocks. Your videos just made it so easy for me to understand this maybe complex world but very very full of hope. Thank you so much, keep up the great work!

I find myself here as a natural counter movement to the events of wsb vs wallstreet in January 2021. Seeing a centralized abuse of power like that, exposing a closed and corrupt system left me wanting to find out more about DeFi and DEx. They gives me hope for the future. Eye opening events like those will only accelerate the transition. Great video.

How did the Compound (high interest, seemingly non profitbale, borrowing) situation play out after the event? and how does it make the ecosystem less vulnerable to these types of behaviours in the future? It sounds like the subprime mortgage CDP's to me ala 2008 financial crisis and we all know what happened there.
