Is THIS the BEST Airport in the World?! 🇸🇬 Singapore Travel Vlog

  • After saying goodbye to Indonesia, we arrived in Singapore for the first time via Changi Airport, which is widely regarded as the best airport in the world. Not only is it a world-class service icon, but it is also a popular destination in itself. Changi Airport has been named the "World's Best Airport" by Skytrax a dozen times and is one of the busiest airports for international passengers and cargo traffic. Furthermore, it has received recognition as one of the world's cleanest airports, so we were incredibly excited to explore it.
We spent a few hours walking around and taking in the impressive attractions. One of the things you can't miss when visiting is the Jewel, a nature-themed entertainment and retail complex. Its centerpiece is the world's tallest indoor waterfall (the Rain Vortex), surrounded by a terraced forest setting.
After taking a few photos in the indoor rainforest, we went to the UOB Money Changer at Terminal 2 to purchase our SIM cards (pro tip: buy them online in advance to save so much money!) before hopping on the fastest MRT we've ever ridden to downtown Singapore.
In true budget-backpacker style, we checked into a space cube, one of the most affordable accommodations we could find. After a quick tour, we settled into our cube and prepared for a day of exploring Singapore on a budget (you'll have to watch the following video to find out what we got into!).

Welcome to Singapore! Some minor information.
    1. You are allowed to chew gum in Sg. The ban is on the sale of gum for non-medical consumption.
    2. You can sing in public in Sg. The restriction is on singing songs with obscene lyrics. And busking for money. Busking requires a license.
    3. There are food courts in the Jewel and each of the terminals of Changi. The price is reasonable, for an airport.
Also, I recommend avoiding convenient stores such as 7-11 in Sg. Unlike other Southeast Asian countries or Taiwan / Japan, 7-11s are tourist traps in Sg. A bottle of water there is typically three times the price at supermarkets.
    Enjoy Singapore!

Ah, thank you for correcting us and giving us these additional tips. We feel silly for our mistakes, but we'll correct ourselves in the next video. 1:55 "It feels big for the sake of being big". Imagine the same space, but the ceiling is only "normal" height. it would be noisier, as the voices of people talking gets reflected off the floor, and the ceiling, and echoes around. With the high ceiling, voices (and other noises) scatter upwards and don't bounce around at ear level. There are other ways to diffuse sound and noise of course, a large space with high ceilings is just one. The next time you are in a crowded, noisy room, note if the room has high ceilings or is "big for the sake of being big". Without the susurration of human voices, the place is less stressful, more calming, and more civilised.

OH YOU GUYS, YOU HAFTA HERE ABOUT MY FIRST TIME HERE 11 YEARS AGO!!! 😁😁😁 Ok, so I didn't come in via plane, but I would like you to note that when to come when coming here, I came in through KL through Johor Bahru, then the Singapore man accepted man at the gate and said (which I loved with nervousness) and said "don't worry sir. Singapore, very peaceful!!! 😁" So certainly I appreciated what he had to say. I then continued with a night, filled with tasty local munchies and a $25 rest in the cabinet, before I wound off to rest myself. After several misreadings, I found Singapore's prized dictatiorship (Pulau Ubin) to be here, then I left the country! I should also note, it was also at this point that Lee Kwan-Yew was still alive for the people for the people for the Singapore, if you would like to know... 😁

I have live and work in Singapore for more than 13 year. so I know very well about Singapore. you know that you can cross over to Indonesia by Ferry Pier in Harbourfront in Singapore to go to Batam island of Indonesia just 1 hour ride and you are in Indonesia.
Singapore national language is English. they have other language that some of them speak in Bahasa Melayu means Malay language and some of them speak in Tamil language or indian language and second language that Singaporean use are Mandarin for ethnic Chinese in Singapore. You were in Terminal 4 which is the "budget" terminal where budget flights fly through. Other terminals will have more interesting stuff and each terminal and their transit area has different attractions like the butterfly garden, cinema, swimming pool etc. Jewel is a mall connected to the airport. Cigarette and alcohol are highly taxed items in Singapore. It is the government's way of curbing the drinking and smoking habit in Singapore. I don't mind that though as I don't drink nor smoke😄

The Sims is so much fun! I haven't played in years, but I used to love modding and decorating the houses (I think I did that more than I actually played the game 🤣).
Singapore is definitely pricey, but there are ways to make it budget-friendly, like staying in a pod outside of the main area, eating at the hawker stalls (which we didn't end up doing 😅), pre-purchasing a SIM card, and taking the MRT or walking to get around. Also, only being there for three days helped.
It was actually cheaper for us to fly from Jakarta to Singapore and then take a bus into Malaysia than it was for us to fly straight to Malaysia, so we figured why not go on a weekend getaway to a new country. We're glad we did!

As a singaporean, do allow me to clear up some misconceptions about some of our ridiculous laws.
No one is going to be hiding and catching you for “singing in public”, “chewing gum” or “being naked in your home”.
These laws exists as a way to charge someone for doing that specific action in a way that disturbs or annoys other people.
For example. If you sing at night every night and disturb the peace, the law may be able to charge you for “singing in public”.
Similarly for “being naked at home”.
No one is gonna jump out of the bushes and suddenly catch u being naked at your own home.
However if u purposely walk around naked at home knowing that your neighbour can see it and u do it repeatedly such that it is sexually suggestive or annoying in nature, then, the law of “being naked at home” can be used against u. M
    That’s how these laws exist.

That makes sense! I also believe western media sensationalizes a lot of things. When you look up Singapore, a lot of articles and blogs come up about the “crazy” laws.
It’s nice to know where things like this come from.
Where we’re from in North Carolina, it’s technically illegal to plow a field with a giraffe or elephant… not because this is a common issue, but because it must have happened one time and they made a law to prosecute that individual. How silly.
Thanks so much for sharing! ☺️🫶

You can sing in public, just not at certain times like after 10:30pm. Otherwise where will all the buskers be working if they can’t sing in public as that’s what they rely on for income. Also not many know this but you can buy cheaper SIM cards at convenience stores like 7-11 or Cheers at the Airport, rather than at the money changers. And cheap foods can be found at the airport as well. You just need to know where to go. T2 and T1 have Staff Canteen that public can access to. And their prices are the same as normal hawker centres

    • @mikeandashley
      @mikeandashley  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is good to know.
The gum thing still feels weird, but we respect the laws. Heck, we think some of our own country's laws are weird, but we respect them regardless.
We noticed the high price of water bottles at 7-Eleven and were so surprised, but we chalked it up to Singapore just being more expensive in general. 😅 It’s good to know we can find more affordable options.
Thank you for giving us more information! We hope to revisit Singapore, and this will definitely help us the next time. ❤️🥰
