The Black Shuck, as it is known in English folklore, was originally said to be a spectral black dog or wolf-like demon that haunts the countryside of England, particularly East Anglia, as an omen of death. But in the Conjuring universe version, the shape-shifting entity makes its way to the artifact room of the Warrens, where it is accidentally released and takes on many of the traits seen in other antagonists that have menaced this franchise.
The character is best known from Gary Dauberman's 2019 film: Annabelle Comes Home, where the legend of the Black Shuck is combined with the mythology of a werewolf! In this video I'll be analyzing everything we know about The Black Shuck, from its origins in English folklore as a hellish hound, to the different versions of the legend and their meaning, its imprisonment and release from the Warrens' artifact collection, and its potential future in the history of the Conjurverse.

The Black Shuck was actually the third conjuring movie that he was planning to do. Back in 2017 or earlier or later, i remember reading it saying how excited he was about the Conjuring success and that the Warrens have a lot of cases he’d like to do movies on. One in particular is about a werewolf and i love werewolves. That’s what he said .
It made me actually go look that case up because even i was intrigued . The actual guy did a live interview.
I hated that this idea was scrapped and instead they went with “the devil made me do it” which i find a major lackluster.

Same. The monsters encountered in Annabelle Comes Home would've actually appeared in a Conjuring movie if it wasn't for the executives ditching James Wan for Michael Chaves(director of La Llorona and The Nun 2/Next To Nun) to alter the initial concept.

For the record, the legend of Black Shuck originates from Bungay, Suffolk in England, and I work there. If you visit the town, you will see a lot of shops and signs about a 'black dog', but the original account was that the creature burst into the church, jumped at the priest, wrapped it's claws round his neck and ripped his throat out. To anyone who knows animals, that is not a canine attack - it is a feline one! This is likely due to when the Romans occupied Britain, they hunted with black panthers, and when they left, the panthers were abandoned there, so a few roamed the countryside for years, and likely carried out the attack that gave birth to the legend of Black Shuck.

I mean technically the oldest account of black shuck in the uk or at least the oldest that is connected to black shuck and not a different hell hound comes from Peterborough from 1127 but by far the most well known especially in Suffolk is Bungay and obviously you can still go and see the door which definitely helps with the legend, I live 15 mins from Bungay but my nans from Bungay so basically grew up there 😄😄😄

I love this video. I love this content. I love CZ's unwavering cynical mind and love of dark humor. I love the amount of historical and scientific research. I love how this man's love of horror movies expands his (and by extention our) education in other areas. Live history, mythology, music, religion, literature, etc. I just live this channel.
