Just bought the game after never hearing a thing about this series, nor seeing a review. What an absolute gem of a title! About 4 hours in and I'm in love. I've played nearly all the big and small name rpgs so it's wonderful to sink my teeth into a series I know absolutely nothing about. Together Forever feels like a modern Final Fantasy in a parallel universe where it was made in China. Great review, too.
I played this on PC (where it was just Sword & Fairy 7) and can vouch. Overall, it's an extremely solid game, and a great jumping-in point if you're curious about the Chinese RPGs which have started getting ported over lately. As far as the story goes, the pacing is like a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. If you're OK with that, the pace won't be an issue. Also, I could be wrong, but from what I'm seeing in the cutscenes here it seems like the translation has been cleaned up since the PC version. Which is good, since that translation was very rough.
The games in this series are so beautiful. I've been watching a Chinese Let's Player on youtube translate them as he plays. I think he's done 5, as well as all the spin-offs up to that point so far. Really enjoying them, and glad we're starting to get these translated!
This game has it's flaws, the fact that it can be a bit demanding to run, no English dub and the English captioning translation is a bit horrific with grammar errors and sentences that don't make sense, pop in issues etc but despite it's flaws it's the definition of a hidden gem. I don't usually like games that take control away from me and long drawn out cutscenes which this game has many of but I found that the story drew me in and the characters have a personality, I ended up sort of being attached to them and wanting to see how they'd carry on throughout the adventure. It's not for everyone this game but it is an enjoyable experience, or it can be if you like rpg's with a decent story.
Thanks for the review, this looks like something I might enjoy and the combat looks potentially fun. I'll either check out the PC version or wait until I get a modern Playstation console if I end up investing in one later in the year.

But it seems like I'd find myself frustrated with the lengthy cutscenes and with how frequent they are from the sounds of it. This series can be tracing all the way back to 90's, or more precisely, 1995, the 1st installment of the franchise on dos, yes u heard me, DOS. It's pretty long in history already, but it was traditional turn-based rpg until 5 or 6 can't recall, there was the 6 with english sub on ps4, the 1st on console i think.
Great review! Going to grab this tonight after work. I've read the PS5 version performs really well at 60fps. Game looks beautiful and and I'm a sucker for a great soundtrack. I think for the price it seems really worth it.
I'm familiar with the series as I've watched a few of the live TV adaptation shows growing up, but SF7 is my first actual game. Only a few hours in but so far I'm enjoying it. I'm very familiar with Chinese story telling, especially Chinese Wu Xia/Xian Xia (martial arts/fantasy) stories, so this felt very familiar to me. I'm glad Chinese stories in video games are gaining more attention in the west. Thankfully I'm comfortable with subtitles and know some Chinese, the no-dub doesn't bother me at all. Even if there was that option, I'd be playing in the original language anyways. Lol love the soundtrack so far.
Good review. Just when I was losing interest with those load times, that "outfits to earn" brought me back. I thought this was another asian title flooded with cosmetic dlc. I've been missing a game like Genji ps2, this looks kinda closer. I hope the frame rate on ps5 to be really better.
Just came out ok gamepass so I'm playing it and it's incredible! Never played a Chinese game before, so had no expectations going in. There are some definite minor issues for being a translated AA game, but not a big deal. Really hope more games like this will get western ports in the future.
I’m playing it on PS5, it’s BEYOND amazing, everything I would want from a live RPG and of course, China is KILLING it with the graphics, I’m shocked they can make a game so pretty, it reminds me of a mix between Naraka, the battle royal), and Dynasty Warriors. It’s a gem and I can only hope they do a DLC or continue branching out. I actually do not mind the English subtitles and that some of the words are either incorrect or still in Chinese characters, it’s kind of funny. I just wish you could double jump and I wish the little summon thing could follow any character, it’s so cute!

The battle system and graphics look really good. Beautiful looking environment. One hour cutscenes? It will not be a game you can pick up and play casually. Can you skip the cutscenes? Lol
Sword and Fairy is not an action game, it's also not a power fantasy, the Cultivators here are severely neutered. It is primarily a Romance drama genre, everything else is secondary. If people are expecting to play a game where the MC become badasses who can One Shot the Cosmos so hard the Cosmos gets resurrected just to be destroyed again or like the Last Dragonborn from Skyrim. You'll be disappointed.
DO NOT BUY this game !!! I bought it on playstation last week for my PS 4 pro. I played it for about 2 hours, and then it started to crash over and over again. It was the latest version too. The game was already crashing on the 1 boss fight, and then it started to run super slow! Sometimes, the main character or the main monster disappeared while the game was still running!! I contacted playstation, and I couldn't even get a partial refund for this particular broken product. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!! Also, the game talked so much, and it was so boring.
Side quest is trash gives you so much side quest in order to advance to the next story and some side quest are locked till you advance in the main story that’s fcking sucks big time and mostly just running place to place for the person like only 5 times I fought in a side quest story is not bad action is fine but the side quest mostly running back and forth no action in it but places to places that’s what bugs me about this beautiful game ruined by cheap side quest

No such performance issues on PS5. Solid 60fps throughout the game (save for cutscenes), lightning fast loading too.

What about exploration? Is there anything to FIND in this huge, pretty world? If not, then it could have been linear and just as beautiful
As was mentioned you'll come across plenty of side quests and such. It is a massive game to explore with plenty to do!
