Thanks for the update. Commodore 64! Brings back memories of my Amiga 64!

Thanks, Guys. Your updates help seeing how the ARRL isn't issuing any updates.

Got a good chuckle from the C-64 T-shirt. Brings back memories of the good days.

As a member. I do feel like they should have resolved this outage in a much more timely manner. The members deserve routine direct communication from them via email, not a few vague sentences on their news blog that many probably don’t even know exists. Bad enough this happens, even worse the way they are handling it. Amateur operators all over the globe use LoTW, even if they restored the site the sheer amount of contact data waiting to be uploaded could bring the site down again.

LoTW went down as a service on May 16th. ARRL had this to say on their news site on 22nd of May…. “We have heard from many LoTW® users, asking about the status of the service and its data. This is not an LoTW server issue, and LoTW data is secure.” Yet as of May 31st the LoTW service is still down to users, I’m assuming worldwide.

Their secrecy about what is really going on is just one more reason not to continue my membership when it expires later this year. No 50 year pin for me sadly.

It's a liberal form of advertising, drawing attention for themselves to drum up more business (fraudulently).

I agree it sounds like a ransom ware attack. This really sucks. The bad part is the ARRL knee jerk reaction will probably be to ratchet up security that will make it's services much more difficult for users... 73 K9ZF

ARRL has a bunch of problems right now. Not the first time they have been hacked, I'm sure it won't be the last.

Seems like an odd thing to hack (LOTW). I'm thinking we're not hearing the entire story. Don't ever save your credit card info on websites. That little "save your card to make it easier for next time" is what the real hackers are after. No dog in the fight just thinking out loud.

I'm with you there! I took my Tech on the 20th and have since passed General and Extra...and don't yet have a number. But I was told that, possibly, those numbers will be issued early this coming week.

@@RollingLiving Monday has come and gone and still no word from the FCC for me, how about you? Wow you took your general and extra! I'm studying for the general now, all this stuff is foreign to me and it's probably going to take another month for me to memorize all the correct answers for the general. Maybe by the end of the year I might have enough time to cram and take the extra as well! Way to go man

@@chrisjohnston5748 Thanks, Chris. I got my FCC payment email today (Monday 6/3). For reference, I took the tech on 5/20. I paid the $35 about Noon today and hope to get an actual callsign tomorrow. Then WM7X can forward my General and Extra, once my callsign shows up.
I've been studying for a while and have a background in electronics, so it was manageable. I will admit, readily, that I was still very nervous for the Extra...sweaty palms and all!

Ramsonware? Are they collecting the money to pay the ransom?
In any case the ham radio world is watching this situation.
Including a lot of radio amateurs who paid dxpeditions to get confirmation via LoTW and who think their money has now gone down the drain.
Silence is not the best response.

Of course the data is secure. Ransom hackers encrypt the data and keep it that way if you don't pay them.

@K1OIK I'll play ball, I suppose. I can't tell if you're trying to be a jerk, or if you just really feel my saying A-double-RL should be something I should consider a terrible faux pas! No, I do not say F double C. I believe a ham operator I knew as a teenager when I entered the hobby long ago pronounced the ARRL acronym in that manner, and for then-young, impressionable me, it stuck. -Tim

@@3oldtechdudes I am somewhat of a jerk, that said do you feel the need to say, QSL,QSL, HI HI because you heard someone else said it or do you have any originality in your brain? The logic is you think for yourself and say A double R L, you ought to say F double C. Or N double A CP, or A triple A for the AAA.
