It's so crazy they're able to keep all this organized. Mad respect for these guys.
Departing Oshkosh can be scary... Lots of airplane coming in and out in very close proximity. But perhaps the most terrifying part is the fact that some pilots just don't follow the procedures, and may not be where you think they are. Also, how about that Cherokee that almost plowed into our line of airplanes?! GO AROUND DUDE!
What was the deal with that Cherokee, anyway? I thought he was a departing aircraft just wing rocking on his way out. I had to go back and look and see if he was after the Dassault, but he was before that. Pulling that kind of stunt at AirVenture is a good way to have an immediate visit by the FAA. I rather suspect the reason he was sitting in the grass was he was sitting there shaking too badly to move. We may never know what happened, but there's a pilot who needs some more dual time! Either that or someone who is no longer capable of flying.
Yeah, the Cherokee was scary.
I hadn't thought about the aspect of it being critical what you do AFTER you leave the delta after departing. I've only flown and airplane to airventure once, and I departed IFR at 06:30, so I immediately went above all the other traffic and I didn't have to worry about it.
Thanks for the video; this was great!
He may have forgot to turn off his after burners
Jason replied below that he was too high and too fast on final, and I'm guessing that was his way of trying to slip the airplane in. Clearly, he needed to go around and start over again. This is one of those 'life lessons' about 'get-there-itis.' It's no fun to arrive at your airport if they have to take you away in an ambulance.
The old saw about 'having to change his flight suit' upon return from a scary mission or encounter may apply here as well, when he was finally on the ground.
Missed opportunity for clickbait, Josh -- you should change the thumbnail to a picture of that plane getting dangerously close and add the title, "CRAZY PILOT NEARLY CRASHES ON TAXIWAY," or "CRASH AVOIDED WITH THIS ONE WEIRD TRICK!" Then you'd have had 250,000 views by now.
Just kidding around. Great video; glad to see it was a great time out there. I hope to make it out next year.
Hi Josh! It was super awesome getting to meet you at Oshkosh. Also, the three OSH17 videos that you produced were just outstanding. Happy flying!
Dear MrAviation101, I must really congratulate you on an excellent 3 part video regarding Oshkosh. I always enjoy your videos but this production is really good! Also the script and narration, I can only complement you on that. I have never been to Oshkosh, (still on my bucket list), so you can imagine how much more I enjoyed watching it from here. Your sharing and partnership with your dad is also very commendable! Keep it up!
Osh was such an awesome event, too bad i couldnt stay longer...!! I didnt get to fly into it but flying out of it was pretty amazing!!! awesome video as always!!
Masa a medved
It's like a more organised London Heathrow ;)
Hope you and your family are safe during Hurricane Harvey, and his after effects. Love all your work and will keep you in our prayers.
Ps hope N80991 survives the storm.
Ditto! I hope all is well, Josh.
I don't think the Austin area got hit that bad, but Houston Hobby is 30 feet underwater.
I guess you won't be going to the beach any time soon.
Thomas Harbauer 30 feet under huh? Might want to check that number again
Was a joke...
Thank you for sharing your experiences .
SERIOUSLY ? What the hell was up with that psycho in the Cherokee ?? I really looked like he was out of control and may flip it, or hit someone. I realize that Oshkosh has pilots of every possible skill level, but didn't expect the Mad Baron to swoop in over the runway, attempting close proximity, low level aerobatics, during a full slip and partial stall, all while experimenting with various seat adjustments and power settings, cycling the flaps, rocking the ailerons, kicking at a beer can stuck under the rudder pedal and folding a chart, all while waving out the passenger side window, to what he's convinced himself is a large crowd of awe-stricken pilots and onlookers, who have assembled to witness his aviation prowess in person. And this was his landing !
Randy Porter that was neither a landing nor an "arrival," it was a poorly controlled crash.
Reminds me of harisson ford😅😅
FlyMe 305 LOL! Yeah, you're right ! 😂
Probably thinking "Gotta come in hot, land this thing quickest to get out of other people's way!" Misplaced consideration. Safe is slow, slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Or crash and tie up the whole d*mn airport for an hour.
Hi, Josh. I'm a new subscriber, but probably the same age as your dad. I subscribed 2 days ago, beginning with some of your newest (2022) videos and then saw this series and just binge-watched all of your OSH videos. Your cinematic skills are 1st Class and your delivery is clear, concise and very thought-full and informative. I'm one of four sons (the youngest) of a Marine Aviator. He was a Major and flew the McDonnell Douglas A-4E Skyhawk (a little more performance than your Skyhawk!) and sadly, he was killed in 1966 over in the Phillipines while he was training for his upcoming missions for the Vietnam War. Out of us four boys, I was the only one to take an interest in flying and got my license back in 1985. It was so much fun and I especially loved solo flight. My instructor was also a cropduster and he taught me well on emergency procedures and I was such an 'instinctive' pilot, I solo'd at just a little over 5 hours. I quickly transitioned from a C-172 to spending most of my solo hours in a taildragger 140. I caught on to that quickly and preferred the little taildragger over the trike. Long story, long - I haven't flown now in a few years and it looks to be over. My kids are grown and raising their own families in all corners of our country and my wife and I are retired. I just wanted to share a little bit on how I stumbled onto and very much appreciate your videos. My dad died when I was almost 4 yrs. old. I see you and your dad and wonder how much we both would have enjoyed flying into OSH and how different things could have been. Your Chelsea is an angel and you have a wonderful future! Best of all good things young man!
Mravitation, thank you for the videos. My dad didn’t know much about the Oshkosh airport. We went there a few days ago. Thanks to your videos, we found our way around the airport :) Keep up the good work! :)
Josh, another great video, and it was as well done in editing and presentation as Parts 1 and 2.
I love the escort you got as you were starting to taxi out, that was great. Friendly waves along the way, too!
I would love to go to Oshkosh and AIr Venture, maybe someday I will, but in the meantime, you keep making videos like this.
As to your Dad, don't ask me why, but I thought he was already an Instrument rated pilot. It's nice to see that he's getting instruction from you on it.
Fly safe!
Very nice video and experience. Congratulations and keep going. Thank you guys for sharing this. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🤙🏽
Great video. I see so many Osh arrival videos, which are great, but it was cool to see the departure procedure. Looked like a beautiful day to be in the sky.
Josh you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope all is going well and you all are safe and sound. The best of luck.
Flying to and from such a thing with your dad, dream come true.
Another great video! You two remind me of my son and I enjoying our Tiger at the great OSH. And it's no wonder my son and I couldn't find you and your dad at OSH... you both left on Thursday. We didn't arrive until the morning of Friday the 28th. We landed on 36R, the taxiway made into a the temporary makeshift runway and, like you and your dad just did, we took off on 27 when we left that Sunday afternoon. It's amazing how out of the chaos that goes on at OSH, how smoothly everything operates for getting aircraft in and out of that place. Hope to see you and your dad at either the AOPA fly-in at Norman, OK this September or at some other event. Happy and safe flying.
You said it best. Holy shit.
That is how you lose your pilot's licence, folks. I mean the Cherokee not you.
I’ve been flying a cherokee 180 for 15 years. It’s probably one of the easiest and most forgiving airplanes to fly. You almost have to TRY to fly it that badly. Yeesh.
@@AV8R_1 I had to fly a cherokee once during my ppl training instead of the 172 I normally flew, first time ever being in a piper. It was a piece of cake to fly, just as sweet and well-mannered as the 172! How anyone can mess up that badly boggles my mind, I was certain we were about to witness a crash!
Absolutely loved this series! Your videos never seize to amaze me!
Wow! Departures from Oshkosh is no place for a pilot who is indecisive, or hesitates and is unsure of themselves. I would love to one day fly into and out of Oshkosh during the gathering, it's on my bucket list.
I love watching you and your dad. It makes me cry in the best way. :)
It's always fun to watch videos of people leaving Oshkosh that time of year knowing I do my current flight training at the school that's connected to KOSH and it being my home base, lol! Awesome vid!
Well done gentlemen! Thanks for the videos!
Great video, thanks for the effort you put into doing this.
I work in round rock at Best Buy just met a guy who went there this year as well. He was laughing since he had his Oshkosh 16 shirt and overheard me listing to you. It is on my bucket list one day I will be able to go
Great Video Josh! Thank you!
Josh, outstanding production, the video, the music, the narration & commentary, the editing! 👏🏻
So cool to see you sharing Oshkosh with your father. My father took me to my first Oshkosh in 1974 and we’ll be back this year. Maybe get to meet-up with you and your while we’re there.
Blue skies for a safe flight to Airventure 2018
Josh
Was awesome following your videos. until the next time safe travels.
Awesome I fly 927SF all the time... Will post a video of it this week
Great video Josh, I've never seen the process of getting away from OshKosh... Do you ever travel to Oklahoma much? I'm in SW OK , small town called Anadarko 55 miles SW of OKC, OK. Thanks for sharing the experience!
Really enjoyed your Oshkosh videos. Hope you guys are high and dry!
thank you very much in formations Great! thanks to Aviation 101 for your quality videos.
thank you
Your videos are so inspiring. I plan on getting my PPL in the spring.
Thanks for another great video!
Your Oshkosh videos are simply amazing . Congrats .. 🇫🇷🇺🇸 will we seen an Oshkosh 2022 ?
Never heard a bad word come out at all until when the guy came in for a hard landing
4:30 you can always go around, if it don't look right coming down. -Ken Dravis
Great video, great experience ,great voice over thoughts and team work with your Papa. There should be a way to tip the ATC..
The best ATC of the entire world!
How does your gropro batteries last so long?
I Marshaled you!
Oh! How cool is that! Hey Zach, on behalf of all the pilots there, thanks for you and all the guys and gals out there working your butts off to make AirVenture a safe and secure place. Hopefully one year, I'll get there, but I haven't been yet.
We were on North flightline when he took off...he taxied on south bro
No ram I swear! I remember the same paint sitting for what seemed like forever just running.
Thanks for this video, Nice quality.
Somebody went ahead and bought the Rosen's at OSH eh? :) Love them in my 182!
Nice videos covering Oshkosh. If you go be sure to volunteer for something while there. You can do flightline or parking which is really fun. See you all next year 2018 all the way from Thailand.
Thanks again Josh & father. Lots of weird flying behavior @ KOSH for sure. Planes are loaded, everyone is talking at once topping-off the stress level. The experience is certainly 'aviation immersion' pushing situational awareness skills to a level not experienced at home airfields. I hope you people are managing with the foul weather in Texas.
Hope you and your family are fine. Greets from germany!
You may have had this asked before - but where do you find your background music? I'd love to have something like that with the videos I edit - as meagar as my videos are compared to yours.
That place would rival O'Hare at that time of year! Lol
Thanks Josh
Amazing as always!
I'm the proud owner of a Fairchild 24W40 ... I'm an A&P ... I plan to get my wings on the trip to Osh 2024 ... She's sporting a 1975 overhauled Warner Siper Scarab 165 hp ...and a mew Sensenich prop ... cream with two tone red and maroon ... God Bless America and the rest of the world too! ...
Another good video Josh! Stay dry.
Praying for all of the folks in the path of the storm this week.
6:08 Looked like the P-51D "The Rebel" departing right in front of you! Pretty cool, Doug Matthews brings it to Reno to turn the pylons many Septembers. Beautiful airplane. Nice video!
Give that atc an award
Have you ever mounted a rear view camera? Maybe real time rear view? What day did you leave? Looks like lots of planes are still there! Thanks for the tremendous footage! Anxious for #Osh19, hope i can make it to the meet and greet on time this year. Great watching your videos another time!
Very nice. Good length
4:29 - wow! Can't help but wonder how in the world that could have happened.
I noticed new sun visors installed,Nice.
That was like a thousand wasps swarming out of their nest. I enjoyed the Osh Kosh series.
Nice job guys
I remember shaking your hand josh 😀 !!!
That’s the type of event you want to arrive early and leave last, no sense it getting in the middle of a mad dash.
Did you get some new sunshades for 80991? You had those opaque ones like you got in a car and now those (imo much better) transparent ones?!
gotta praise that radio/tower man, i woulda been tongue tied and lost xD
MITO but with little planes. Pretty cool
How's everything over there in Texas? Hope you and your family and friends are safe. We got it bad even over here in Florida. Hope you guys are safe and ok.
Hey, Can you see non ADS-B equipped aircraft on your TCAS as well?
OMG! WHAT A MADHOUSE! HOW do the ATCs keep everything straight? It was a monumental juggling act - and they pulled it off.
I second the well-wishes for you and yours during Harvey. My Houston-area brother wasn't as lucky, he has a muddy swimming pool for a ground floor. Take care, Josh and Dad!
They do this for a living, so they're good at it. And the best controllers from around the entire country are chosen for Oshkosh. It would be hard for you and me, but I imagine it's pretty easy for them.
Hey Josh, is there going to be more video of your trip home from Oshkosh ?
Nice video! Gotta ask a question. I will buy a GoPro to record my flights and was wondering if the GoPro will interfere with the magnetic compass given that mounting near the area provides what seems to be a good angle? Thanks!
Hope to see you next year I'll be coming in an arrow iv
Awsome video josh
4:26 Well that escalated quickly.
Seriously though, what the hell was up with that Cherokee?
Was too high, so he tried to dive for the runway and came in too hot, and could have caused a disaster. I though he was going to plow into us. He should have gone-around, but I guess in his mind, that wasn't an option? I don't know.
MrAviation101 looked like to me he tried to do a forward slip with the power still on, which is why he lost lateral control and increased in speed.
MrAviation101 I am glad he did not cash into you or run into anyone , while I was watching and seen the Cherokee fly by like that , it scared me. I wish he had just gone around , I wounder if his tired went flat or lost some air. I enjoy the video and I am glad you did it. I enjoy it. I am really glad no one crash and every one got home safe.
I agree I just couldn't tell from the video why there was a Cherokee flying like an idiot. Makes sense now.
maybe a little too many beers at camp?
Are you and your family and the plane safe?
No problems with Harvey?
Thanks for the video!
I wanna go there one day
Damn, that controller is good.
I read the thumbnail as "OSHIT"
If it there had been an actual collision, it would have definitely been OSH-HIT moment... ;)
lul
Sexy shit, Josh and Pop! Great vid guys! Man I cant wait to get back in that left seat! And cant wait to see how he did in IMC 😎
Fun fact: The Oshkosh ATC guys are auctioneers the rest of the year.
Have you guys noticed what OSH17 says?
awesome
I wish I can go to OSH
do you have the 9.7 inch ipad josh?
I really dig the "Modernize not Privatize" sticker
love the videos! hit me up to fly some warbirds here at triple tree in South Carolina!
What is that gauge on the passenger side air vent for exactly? (seen at 08:44 in the top left-hand side of the video)
That is the outside air temperature (OAT) gauge.
How y'all holding up in Tx?
Lol the Cherokee
Wow one big headache!
What was going on with that Cherokee? Were they having some kind of a problem?
Made the turn to final way too high and fast, and overshot the turn to final. Should have gone-around, but I guess they didn't have a go-around in the mind as an option.
Thanks for that, Josh. I guess those antics were attempts at a slip then. Like I said in another reply, doing that at AirVenture may very well get you a visit from the FAA, but either way, the pilot needs a little more dual!
I like your logo...
I can never understand the talk via the radio, it goes so fast. is it difficult to hear because we hear it via youtube and is it better if you are sitting in the plane? or is it just a lot of practise and you can speak the 'radio language' (im not a pilot).
maybe it would be fun making a video about the radio talking
Wow, that was all but a crash.
Very very dood vids AWSOME 😄
I guess those guys were escorting you.
I guess it is busy but it can't be compared to airports that deal with thousands of people in hundreds of massive aircrafts. I think those take the cake of busiest.
lol no, this is the busiest airport in the world while this event is going on.
The airplanes are smaller on average, but there's way way more of them trying to land and take off at one time then you would even see at a big international airport.
Aqoan, the concept of 'The Busiest Airport' comes from the number of aircraft operations per day. During Oshkosh, particularly the days right before it opens, and opening Day, and the last day and the following day, the number of operations per day will well outnumber any airport in the world.
It has nothing to do with the number of people, just aircraft operations.
WAS Flightline volunteer 2016 & 2017. Was on the end of 18 for mass arrival of both Cessna and Beechcraft for 36R. On final approach they land in trail about 1/2 mile apart. Over 10 aircraft on final with landing lights on. Amazing to watch.
Mr. Mike, I bet it was. Thank you for what you did there!
Someone please tell me why Oshkosh is anything but an unsafe nightmare.. bc it does not look fun from everything I see
why the heck can't I be rich and be able to live a life like this, piloting planes that I own?
Set it as a priority in your life and it'll happen, by the way you don't need to be rich.
You don’t need to be rich. You can get 150s in the $20 000 range. It’s about priorities too. To have a child costs $200 000 from 1-18 years old. Many people have $40 000 cars. So why not buy a reliable old Toyota for around $8000 and spend the other $32 000 on a plane plus operating costs for a few years for a few years.
