I’m old Beatles, clapton, CCR fan always saying growling is shit. Amorphis and Wintersun has changed my mind. In Bee (Amorphis) Tomi’s growling and cleans are insane.
That's exactly what happened for me. I was never into growling or screaming, even that I listened to Children Of Bodom quite a bit back in the days (when I played guitar myself). But because of Tomi and Jari I have started to like those type vocals in some extent. I mean that I can usually enjoy their music without constantly thinking, that why they have to sing like that, and I actually like their vocals when they give their best. Tomi's growling is incredible and Jari can scream his soul out...I never thought someone could actually put so much emotions on screaming type vocals.
I LOVE Amoprhis. Tomi's voice is like honey. Great band that I've listened to over 10 years. There is way more variety in metal music now than like in the 80's or 90's. Try The Bee from them. Great song too!
You should also do The bee, Death of a king or Brother and sister. The contrast between clean vocals and growling is addictive. I hope they tour with NW on December as the previous attempts were cancelled.
Amorphis is one of the best metal bands going. They have never released a bad album IMO. They started out as pure death metal but have evolved over the years to this. The last two albums are straight up masterpieces and the ones prior are nothing to sneeze at too. Great great band...one of my all time favourites. Cheers!

Amorphis is one of the pioneers of the Finnish metal scene, started in 1990. Three of the founding members, Esa Holopainen, Jan Rechberger and Tomi Koivusaari still play in the band. When they released their first widely successful albums, the Tales from the Thousand Lakes and Elegy in the 90s, they had struck a really poor recoding deal and never received a fair payment from their work. This understandably demotivated the band and they were close to breaking up. Luckily they got rid of the lousy deal and in 2005 they found their current singer Tomi Joutsen, who fit the band perfectly having both clean singing and growling abilities. They’ve released many high quality and critically acclaimed albums since. From the Tales from the Thousand Lakes to The Beginning of Times albums (that’s about 7 albums), their songs tell stories from the Finnish national epic, Kalevala. Last three albums are somewhat also insipired by Kalevala as well as Finnish nature and folklore. Amorphis’ songs are best enjoyed with lyrics and by checking the backstories beforehand at least for the Kalevala songs.
