Learning theory is important but u don't need to go deep as a beginner. That's what most people get wrong. Raw guitar playing makes u a better guitarist but learning music theory makes u a better musician.

f# diminished may be replaced by D7th chord. In diatonic scale 5th position ka 7th chord lagta hai. Eg C dm em F G Am G7th C.

It is equally important to understand why the major and minors are placed in this permutation. It is very important to not mug up and try to find out the reasons and always try and analyse the music.

Also if you want to know, which of those 7 chords sounds good in a progression, generally it is 1st, 6th, 4th and 5th that sound great together. So if you get to know a song is in C major scale, you would pick 1, 6, 4 and 5th chords of the family.

If you are wondering for a minor chord the pattern is minor, diminished, major, minor, major, major, major. For e.g. for Am -> we have Am, Bdim, C, Dm, E,F,G.

Most songs on Em would follow Em, D,C,D pattern. for e.g. tera mera rishta purana, Ishq, Je jism hai toh kya follows this chord progression...
But for some songs like Meherbaan, Bang Bang, bheegi bheegi the chord progression is a bit more complex.

@@davies5304 I didn’t actually ask for the chords. I meant in an Am Key, the chord should be Em and not Emaj.
But when you said Em Key has B, I figured you’re mixing up “Natural scales” with “Harmonic scales”. If you look close in a Em scale, the 7th note is a D, but for a B, you’ll need a D#. Which is a dominant note so there comes the harmonic scale.
