This record was so hot it allowed the session players to start their own band. That was Toto. But this song changed music taste in a big way. Crossover hit to the extreme.
Oh I love "miss Sun" especially when he was playing it with the Dukes of September .oh can not go wrong with Boz ,now that's a rabbit hole to go down. He's now 80 years old and can still play and sing!! One of the best ever!
This song won the Grammy for best R&B song after its release in 1976. Check out his smooth vocals on Harbor Lights. Incredible production and performance. The remaster album cut is the one.
Lord have mercy….Silk Degrees…I bought this album when it was first released - 1976 age 21. I played the hell out of it on my new Fisher studio standard sound system. Silk Degrees, one of the GOAT and I still have the album almost 50 years later. I enjoy you guys a lot.
I was 14 when this album came out. I used to babysit for this couple in my neighborhood and they turned me onto this album. I immediately took some of my babysitting money and went to the local record store in my neighborhood bought this album. I am almost 63 years old and I still have this album and I still jam to it, but now I jam with my grandkids. Gotta love Boz because he is such a vibe!
Glad you finally found Boz! Try, "JoJo", "Miss Sun", "Lido Shuffle", "Look You've Done To Me" Live! (There's a beautiful musical surprise at the end of it!) etc. You can't go wrong with Boz!
@@jimmoore8951I saw Boz at Gruene Hall a few years back, He’s definitely getting up there in years, but as soon as he sat down at the keyboard it was like the good ‘ol days
49 years ago this went on my playlist, dang near every party some time after midnight I pop this on to this day. So smooth even those who don't dance are at the very least are tappin' their foot and thinkin' they can sing! Thank you enjoyed it with you.
More Boz! Everything he does is great and in the groove. Jojo; Love, Look What You’ve Done to Me; Miss Sun live are even better! He still tours- still fantastic.
******* BOZ SKAGGS: About as Hip as They Come. Ya'll Started with a WINNER! This WON a GRAMMY for "BEST R & B SONG" in 1977. Guess That DJ You mentioned Had it Right! Genuine blue eyed soul, along with MICHAEL McDONALD, BOBBY CALDWELL, HALL & OATES & others.
Check out his back catalogue particularly "loan me a dime" w Duane Allman of the Allman Bros. btw... Boz Skaggs was a former member of Steve Miller Band in the 60's
Back when Toto was putting together the demo for their debut album in the mid-70's, they had a song titled 'Tales of a Man'. While listening to it, Mr. Scaggs liked the changes in the middle of the song. And they pretty much built an entire song around those changes. Written by David Paich, Toto's pianist, and built around Toto's groove-master drummer Jeff Porcaro. People can find the inspiration for the song on 'Toto XX'.
Everybody talks about Toto, but after their first album, they were pretty bland. Great musicians, but a lot their best work was in the service of other artists.
From Songfacts - Scaggs wrote this song with the keyboard player David Paich, who would later form the band Toto and write many of their hits. "Lowdown" was the first song that Scaggs and Paich wrote together; it was Silk Degrees producer Joe Wissert who put them together. In a Songfacts interview with Boz Scaggs, he explained: "We took off for a weekend to this getaway outside of LA where there was a piano and stayed up all night banging around ideas. We hit on 'Lowdown,' and then we brought it back to the band and recorded it. We were just thrilled with that one. That was the first song that we attempted, and it had a magic to it." This was the second single released from Silk Degrees. The first was "It's Over," which charted at a modest #38 in May 1976. Scaggs had little name recognition at the time, and sales were stagnant for the album until an R&B radio station in Cleveland started playing "Lowdown." Other stations followed suit, and it quickly became clear that the song had crossover appeal and hit potential. Scaggs' label, CBS, released it as a single and it climbed to #3 on the Hot 100 in October, spurring sales of the album along the way. The song is about a girl who doesn't appreciate what her man gives her. The "dirty lowdown" is the honest truth - what Scaggs is encouraging this poor sap to face. The word "Lowdown" was popular slang meaning a summary of what's going on for real. Along with keyboard player David Paich, two other future Toto members also played on this track: drummer Jeff Porcaro and bass player David Hungate. The Silk Degrees marked the first time that Scaggs used these studio pros, and it was also his first album produced by Joe Wissert, who was a staff producer at Columbia Records who had previously worked with Earth, Wind & Fire. The crew for the album found just the right sound, a disco-blend that could play in dance clubs and pool halls. Scaggs credits Wissert for giving him and the other musicians plenty of freedom in the studio, resulting in one of the most successful albums of the '70s - Silk Degrees went on to sell over five million copies. This won the Grammy for Best R&B Song of 1976, making Scaggs the first white artist to win the award.
Saw Boz Scaggs in Napier, New Zealand, touring with Mike MacDonald and Mick Fleetwood ... until then only heard him on albums and radio.. the best compliment i can pay him is that his singing live was even better than his recordings.. a night to remember, absolute music heaven... 🕊NZ
Corey, your reaction is exactly how we all felt when we first heard this back in 1976. You can’t sit still. Boz Scaggs is smooth as midnight bourbon. I’ve seen him 7 times and I’d see him 200 more times if it were possible.
Ah, so many years of enjoying Boz Scaggs. I saw him live around the time these albums released and more recently. He is still an amazing performer. Worth checking out some of his more recent live performances.
Love me some Boz. He has two excellent albums that came out, I think in the 90's, that imo, got overlooked by the music world. They have become two of my favorite albums, by any artist. One is called Come On Home, which is more of a straight up blues and R&B album, and the other one is called Dig, which has that nice smooth more polished feel, like this song and album. I'm hoping y'all can eventually check out the song I've got Your Love from the Come on Home album and King of El Paso from the Dig album. Boz has a bunch of great tunes to choose from.
Great choice! Love Boz Scaggs so much! I've seen him in concert three times over the decades. I brought my adult children the last time. He can set a mood! ✌️❤️🤟🥁
A cool little factoid abut Boz Scaggs, he was a Prep High School roommate of Steve Miller ("Fly Like An Eagle', "Jet Airliner", "Living In The USA"). And Steve Miller was the Godson of Les Paul, who basically invented the Electric Guitar, So it is ALL connected. Another goodie from Boz is "Lido Shuffle", from the same album.
Boz has been around for a very long time. He was playing Blues with guys like BB King and Albert King back in the 60s before going out on his own. This guy paid his dues in the music business, long before he became a star in the mid 70s.
I saw Boz and his band do this last year, absolutely rocked it along with 4 decades of other great songs...it's all good but when you have 12 minutes to burn do his Brother Can you Spare a Dime off of his first album. A teaser, Duane Allman puts down a great solo just to pitch in;)
The epidemy of groove! This music is as smooth as butter. Another example how the 70s was the greatest decade in popular music and the sound track to my young life... and Jeff Porcaro on drums, the 'pocket master'. Time to put Boz on the turntable again, love this man's music!
The short of it. Boz came from 'The Steve Miller Band ' and an absolute Fire! song do is 'Lido Shuffle ' from the same record. Including all the best studio musicians available. Many from the members that soon formed 'Toto'. "Check it Out!" ✌️
It's a masterclass in song-writing. Deceptively simple, but complex in it's construction both harmonically and in its instrumentation. I'm a fan for sure.
Boz Scaggs was the first white/non-black artist to win a Grammy for R&B song of the year, for Lowdown. His first and other major hit off the Silk Degrees album, Lido Shuffle, should be your next reaction.
This record was so hot it allowed the session players to start their own band. That was Toto. But this song changed music taste in a big way. Crossover hit to the extreme.
Toto 🥶!!!
Great info. Thanks!
Awe yeah, I been waiting for Boz to appear, Jojo and Lido shuffle next💪
Lido Shuffle lays it down!
Along with "Breakdown Dead Ahead", 'Dinah Flo" and "Miss Sun" for sure.
@nastynick8709 OH yes Breakdown Dead Ahead!
JOJO 🤌

Indeed
Boz Scaggs live version of "Look What You've Done to Me" is so smooth! You will enjoy "JoJo" also.
Lido Shuffle is a banger
This song won the Grammy for best R&B song after its release in 1976. Check out his smooth vocals on Harbor Lights. Incredible production and performance. The remaster album cut is the one.
I just recommended this one too ✌️
I've loved this song since 1976 . I'm so happy that yall have discovered his music . Enjoy 😉
So have I. I was a teenager and wore the record OUT! We were blessed to be around for the ABSOLUTE best musical era there will EVER be. ✨️😊💛
Monster hit from 1976, barely missed #1. This is one of my favorite songs from the entire 1970s.
Scaggs was a gunslinger in his day. Great guitarist, composer, producer. He worked on many artists albums and live performances. Look him up.
Loan Me a Dime Boz on vocal and Duane Allman guitar. One of my favorite Blues recordings.
Loan
@@dennisshaper4744 Thanks 😎
Yup. Boz played hit-bucket blues for sometimes, both before and after these hits.
Me too! Exceptional tune!!
Boz' music is timeless! Silk Degrees has banger after banger! Thanks for this!!! 💓🌟

This is an excellent selection, Boz Scaggs had alot of soul.

Boz ….the man. The giant rabbit hole you need to go down some of the greatest songs ever done by a performer and an artist.
Yes! I love this song & will never get tired of it…my favorite by Boz Scaggs!👍👏👏👏👏♥️♥️♥️
Shout out from Cleveland, class of '76! "Fly Like an Eagle"!
Boz was in steve miller's band before going solo
A couple of bands together!
They both moved to SF from Texas and Boz married Camilla who became a socialite and Boz got a few good songs (like this one) out of the divorce
They were in high school together in Dallas and were in bands then.
@@jimmoore8951I saw Boz at Gruene Hall a few years back, He’s definitely getting up there in years, but as soon as he sat down at the keyboard it was like the good ‘ol days
Whoa
Such a good song, all over the radio back in the day.. always dug Boz.
49 years ago this went on my playlist, dang near every party some time after midnight I pop this on to this day. So smooth even those who don't dance are at the very least are tappin' their foot and thinkin' they can sing! Thank you enjoyed it with you.
Boz Scaggs is on the short list of the coolest cats to ever grace these here ears.
so cool .
He started out with the Steve Miller Band in 1967
More Boz! Everything he does is great and in the groove. Jojo; Love, Look What You’ve Done to Me; Miss Sun live are even better!
He still tours- still fantastic.
I've heard this dozens of times and it never gets old or tiring. A great jazzy pop song.
Loan me a Dime is another gem of his.
With Duane Allman !
I remember roller skating to this at the rink in '77. Takes me right back.

*BOZ SCAGGS* - _'JoJo, Lido Shuffle, Heart Of Mine, Breakdown Dead Ahead, We're All Alone'_ 5 more Boz songs to add to this list!
If you ever thought a smooth jazz song could be a total Banger …this is it!! Just so well put together…it’s a masterpiece in my book!
This is one of the first songs I remember hearing everywhere. Every time the car started, hourly on the radio, and in stores.
One of the greats. Please review "Look What You've Done to Me", "We're All Alone", and "Lido Shuffle"

And the lyrics are wise and lifting, not letting yourself get too low, but realizing we're all just us low down if we let ourselves fall too far.

Silk Degrees is top tier all the way!
I always loved this song back in the day, love his vocals too, they’re smooth. It was on Rock stations in Miami back in the day too.
