Hey man. Been following for a while now. You've been a big inspiration to me. I wanted your input on something. I recently got an 05 accord v6 hybrid. It's got the infamous VCM system. It was smoking in high rpm when I got it. I did a Marvel Mystery Oil soak on the piston rings, put Marvel Mystery Oil in the only on an oil change at the same time, and also put a VCM muzzle on it to disable the ECO mode. That was maybe 1k miles ago and it started smoking more. I did another oil change on it just today and put a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer in it mixed with the oil change. From the few drives I took, it definitely seems like the oil is burning a hell of a lot less. There used to be somewhat thick clouds behind me, and now there's more of a thin mist of smoke. If I just keep driving it how it is, will the piston rings free up and stop burning? I just don't want to mess around. If I need to pull the engine and rebuild with new rings, then I'll do it. I just don't want to do endless oil changes and piston ring soaks hoping it will free up one day. Also, a key point to the issue, when I pull the oil cap off while the engine is running there definitely is a release of pressure you can hear, as in blow by happening inside the engine. I've read that people had really bad oil consumption go away with just the VCM muzzler. I've been following you for a while and look up to you quite a bit and just want your input on this issue.
@@codyspear1263 put a new pcv valve in it. It may be stuck open. You cannot fix ring wash, without a hone, and re-ring. Mechanic in a can never works for that. If it is one cylinder, sooner or later, it might foul out a plug, and you will know what cylinder it is. If it is all cylinders, it is probably something else, like a crankcase vent sucking oil. If it only smokes at WOT, possibly, either your intake is full of oil, or the previous owner grandma drove it, without a proper break in, and the top ring wears low in the cylinder, causing high rpm's to go higher than the ring wear location, hence, it will use less oil, if you drive it like the previous owner, unless you already made it worse. Just my 2 cents.
@@RustBeltAuto I'm the second owner and the first owner was an old guy. Already did a new pcv valve and I can already see oil vapors gathering around the new one. I've had cylinder 2 plug foul out once before, so I just replaced all the plugs. Most recently I've had cylinder 1, 4, and 6 plugs fouled all at the same time and I just scrubbed them clean with a wire brush this time. I might try pulling the intake manifold and cleaning it all out. The only reason I ask about the VCM muzzler fixing the issue over time, is because there's quite a few people claiming on the odyssey forums that it completely fixed their oil burning problem. Sounds too good to be true honestly.
@@RustBeltAuto I'd also like the point out, the car is from the east coast and the exhaust had many "patches" on it. I'm really not entirely sure what the hell they used to patch it, but it almost looked like drywall mesh and drywall mud, along with some hvac flex pipe and probably about 50 hose clamps. I put on new precats, j pipe, and third cat and just attached it to the rest of the exhaust because it really wasn't all the bad the rest of the way. But one of the rear mufflers is patched with the same stuff. I did run the engine with just the new precats on and no other exhaust connected, just to see how much was pouring out, and I hardly saw any smoke coming out, even at wot but this was all done with the car on jack stands so I wasn't driving it around like that. From what I can tell it smokes at 5k+ rpm and in park the fuel cut off is at about 5k rpm. wot or just easing on the gas doesn't seem to change the amount of smoke, just the rpms.
