      @@idealdirecthomeimprovement1639 thank you!!! Have you ever tried mixing this up in a concentrate? You mix 4-18-38 and epsom salt and keep that in one bottle and call it part a and then you mix calcium nitrate in a seperate bottle by itself and call that part b and then when you go to use them depending on the concentration you use it could be a teaspoon up to 1/2 cup. I’m trying to find more on it because that would make things much easier in the long run. It would be AMAZING if you could do a video for that ♥️♥️♥️

    I love how much fun you have with this! Your tips are always welcomed.
    I've harvested a couple of heads of Kratky Tom Thumb head lettuce with my existing setup. The first one I took the entire head, the second one I cut it off about 1" above the crown and it's growing again!! I've finally managed to locate a rack so I'm going to start a Hahms Gelbe Micro Dwarf tomato (a determinate yellow cherry) as my current setup doesn't have the lights or space for a bucket.
    I notice something new every time I watch your videos. Today in your garden tour video around the 19:15 mark I spotted a bucket with 5 holes, one of which you had plugged with a clone collar - what a great idea! I've decided that I will put two holes in my tomato bucket and use one as a fill hole which will be easy to plug and unplug with the clone collar.
    I also noticed that you seem to have extended the poles on your shelving racks. I'm probably going to have to look into that as well.
    Thank you so much for taking time to do these videos.

    Very impressive! You are well organized , doing it in a simple but productive way. I tried hydroponic gardening in my garage 7 years ago. I had problems with the high humidity level. How do you manage it and keep it under control? I was afraid to get mold on my dry wall so I stopped everything. As you have mentioned in one of your video, it is not easy to garden outside in Canada with our short summer. I have problems with squirrels, birds, rabbits, groundhogs, slugs and insects. I am very tempted to give hydroponic growing another try. I also have a small greenhouse wich is great for growing peppers and tomatoes but the last two summers were very cloudy and the harvests were disappointing. That could be very rewarding to do both.

    Nice grow! Fantastic results. Im using some commercial hydroponic fertilizer and have some amazing results, but looking to reduce cost by switching to masterblend.. its about 20% of the cost of the stuff im using now. The stuff i have (green planet) has inbuilt pH buffers so its always the perfect pH.. do you have to adjust when using master blend? Btw, all green peppers are red peppers when they are fully ripe (although sometimes yellow and purple as well). There isnt such a thing as a ripe green pepper. Green peppers are great if you like the herbacious flavors of an unripe pepper, but let them get ripe and enjoy the full fruity flavors and sweetness of the ripe pepper!. Cross pollination can occur and give you some interesting variations, but this effect will only be seen in the offspring grown from the seeds of the plants being crossed - it wont appear in the fruit in-season.

      @idealdirecthomeimprovement1639  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Charles! You can use the same masterblend for all veggies the ratio for leafy greens that I use is 10 grams of mb tomatoe formula 5 grams of magnesium sulphate and 10 grams of calcium nitrate per 5 gallons.
      For peppers and tomatoes I use a slightly stronger concentration 24g -10-24 per 5 gallons, everyone does it differently but I have learned throughout the years peppers and tomatoes like a higher concentration to produce well (EC) , you can certainly try the regular concentration on tomatoes and peppers of 12-6-12 and the higher on two different plants as an experiment to see how they do. Don’t be afraid to experiment! I also keep the ph at 6.5 all around it has been working for me.

    Just got around to watching this, and of course it did not disappoint! ;) Based on how you mixed your nutrients, I've been doing it wrong (not using warm water), which may be why my veggies don't look at beautiful as yours! Question for you: How do you warm up your water? Or would room temp also work?

      Hello and thanks for watching! Mixing properly does help, I’m sure your veggies look great!
      Great question, I use water from the tap.😉
      Once I mix like I showed with very warm water, and it’s dissolved, I let it sit overnight and ph the nutrient mix.

      @@idealdirecthomeimprovement1639 I usually fill up a bunch of 1-gallon milk jugs with filtered tap water and let them sit for at least a day or two (I don't always use 5 gal buckets, so the 1-gallon jugs help lol) and then use that to mix my nutrients into, but I'll start dissolving them first in warm water... I'm going to be starting some new veggies and will follow this formula to see if it makes a difference :) thanks for sharing your knowledge!

    • @idealdirecthomeimprovement1639
      @idealdirecthomeimprovement1639  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@carolynwilhelm depending o how may plants you have, 5 gallons is good to have on hand for intermittent feedings, as long as the nutrient mix is in a dark bucket, it can sit for at least a week without going bad. Carolyn, I just use regular tap water. I used to let it sit and de-chlorinate, but it didn’t help any at all. To be honest I think it’s a myth. My tap water is around 7.9 ph and has an EC of .3. So, it works out great for me. The only reason I let it sit now is , so it cools down after the mix was done, the temperature affects the ph. So, it cools down overnight and then I ph it. ( it gets to room temperature or about 18 degrees Celsius which is perfect for the plants.
      Hope I helped and thank you for watching, it’s always a pleasure hearing from you!

      @@idealdirecthomeimprovement1639 I may have asked you this before, but I can't remember... do you measure PPM? or just pH? I have a bunch of pepper plants (jalapeno, cupid, and King crimson red) that are growing in my basement. I checked PPM the other day and they were all low, so how do I increase PPM? Do I add more nutrients? I didn't measure pH so I should probably do that before I do anything else. lol Thanks again for your help!

    • @idealdirecthomeimprovement1639
      @idealdirecthomeimprovement1639  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@carolynwilhelm I used to measure EC on every mix and tailor to every plant according to those charts everyone passes around on internet. I stopped doing that, all I do now is make certain mix concentrations depending on the type of plant and stage of growth all using and starting with masterblend, so for leafy greens I do 10-5-10 grams of the formula, (MB-Epsom-Calcuim Nitrate) per 5 gallons. For tomatoes and peppers I start with the basic formula 12-6-12 ad then when they start to flower and fruit I change the concentration to 24-10-24 Grams per 5 gallons and so far it works for me. Having premixed solutions is great because as they drink up the solution I just feed them with a fresh mix slowly or daily. I don’t ph the actual reservoir anymore, unless there is a sign that something is wrong with the plant. Ph definitely should be a priority because if the ph is off, the plants will miss out on nutrients in the mix. I make sure my mixes are all ph at 6.0 and so far this has worked for me. Carolyn keep in mind this is what works for me and I’m trying to keep it very simple. I used to listen to everyone on forums and I don’t anymore because I want to keep it simple. What works for me, may not work for you. Happy growing!

    Do you ever need to add Cal-Mag to any of your MasterBlend concentrations?
    Some of my plants are showing leaf deficiency maybe??? Do you ever have that problem?
    Also I’m growing things like cantaloupe, eggplant, tomato, green peppers, squash, cucumber etc so on all of these things when they start to flower do you double the 3 part MB mix or just keep it at the 12-6-12? And do you add anything else at all to any of them?
    Thank you so much, I have learned more from you than anyone!!!!! 🙏

    • @idealdirecthomeimprovement1639
      @idealdirecthomeimprovement1639  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions!
      I don’t add cal mag to anything.some people say to add it, but I never have because we add both in the masterblend formula. I don’t think a supplement is necessary.
      Some of my plants show a deficiency sometimes, growing indoors in hydroponics is not a perfect science for us do it yourselfers. I just trim the bad leaves off. Most of the time it’s ph that throws off something and then we get a few leaves saying something is off. So start with simple things like ph.
      Once the plant starts to flower that’s when I switch to the higher concentration of masterblend. 24-10-24 grams per 5 gallons. (Mb tomato formula-Epsom salts-calcium nitrate)
      My plants flourish with this. They need the higher Ec to produce.
      Remember growing isn’t perfect, we just try our best even plants grown outside aren’t perfect, it’s only that we notice more growing indoors because we constantly monitor and watch them grow closely.
      I hope that helps, and thank you so much for your kind words!

    Hey Edward! Hope all is well! Aaron Bennett here from the FB groups...Im curious. With your Tomatoes, do you ever adjust the 12/6/12 Mix during bloom, or other times? Was just curious if you remain at that level t/o the process? Or if you adjust with Potassium, etc., as they start to bloom or produce?

    • @idealdirecthomeimprovement1639
      @idealdirecthomeimprovement1639  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Aaron,
      I don’t adjust the formula except by raising the Ec and giving the tomatoes a stronger mix , 24-10-24 once they start to bloom. That’s it , oh and make sure that the ph and Ec is good at least once a week. If the Ec raises more than the amount that the mix was originally done I make sure I refresh the reservoir with a new batch of nutrient mix. Sometimes the Ec shoots way up because the plant already has enough nutrients and is drinking water.
      I don’t add anything like more potassium. The masterblend formula is good all the way through a grow for tomatoes and peppers.

      @@idealdirecthomeimprovement1639 thanks so much for the quick reply! I just watched your tour and transplant video. That video answered a lot of my questions. And WOW! What a marvelous setup you have! You have a a lot packed in and growing in your grow room!! Nice that it’s part of the house too. I have never ever seen or heard of those clone cubes before. I have lots of clay pebbles unfortunately. I did get an idea from another TH-cam grower TikiO where I use a strip if paper towel that hangs out the bottom of the net cup and sits on top of clay pebbles that are filled about 1/3 the way up the net cup. I put the seed on top of that bit sitting on top of the clay pebbles and it sits in 1020 tray with water sitting in it and the 1020 is on a heat mat. The seeds germinate very well. As the greens get larger I fill with more pebbles to support the plant. Gets a little tricky to keep the paper towel moist but not too moist as the greens grow. Use a little spray bottle sometimes. This reduced transplanting and simplified the process. But I really like the idea of the jiffy discs and clone cube things. Also was surprised those Costco led shop lights were enough for your greens…..that has to save a lot of money rather than using the costly grow lights! Thanks so much for sharing and responding!

    question on mixing the masterblend 3 part nutrients. can you mix up enough for a 12 gallon container in a one gallon bucket? I realize they want you to dissolve each one separately as opposed to just dumping all 3 in at once. so in this instance - I'd have 3 1 gallon buckets and put in each - the amount needed for 12 gallons or whatever amount my large container is - then add them in the order given?

      Hope your well and happy growing Dawn!

    If the ph is off, what do you do to adjust it?

      Good question! If you need to adjust the ph, there are kits you can buy from a hydroponics store or Amazon. When you are adjusting the ph after you have your nutrient solution mixed, and if you have to lower the ph (in most cases, bringing the ph down) be careful by not adding to many drops, start with one or two drops at a time. When I ph my solutions I dilute 2 millilitres per 1/4 cup of water to dilute before I pour it into my nutrients solution and mix then test again. So to get the hang of it, only use a few drops at a time.
      Here is the product links from Amazon, I hope this helps and please feel free to ask me questions

    I am not doing that. I am using the same nutrient that you have. I just mix the nutrient ti a big bucket and that ' s it.
