    Finding your channel is what spurred me to try Kratky cheap & easy! Started lettuce in late winter indoors (I live in frigid NY) with small gallon sized totes that were stashed away in my cupboards for 30 yrs using Masterblend. Started my outdoor garden plants from seed and when time came to plant outside in May, I took it to the next level by turning the 10 gal recycling blue bins the county gives away for free into big tomato containers. I had sheets of blue styrofoam insulation that I cut for lids, used empty cottage cheese containers that I burned holes into as net cups filled with cheap perlite to keep the starts upright. Followed up with eggplants in 4 gal buckets free from the local grocery chain bakery dept. Thursday I filled a wheelbarrow with the prunings off the tomatoes! They are doing GREAT and the eggplant are now bigger than the ones planted in soil 2 months ago! My total investment was the 5 lb Masterblend that will last me many seasons and a handful of perlite for each plant. God bless you Mike! I am going to be tomato rich this year because you showed me how to start cheap & easy!

    Great video Mike. Its great you remind everybody this is not the magic bullet and the start of the basics. Always someone out there trying to complain and want to make a point about what something doesnt do. Ever since i found your vids, you've stressed the point this great for beginners and great for leafy greens. Stay true to yourself, let others show how to grow the rest of the garden. Appreciate you.

    Master Blend has been a great jump-off hydro nutrient solution that works! I thought of adding other blends, but why!
    Water evaporation in 9b is a greater challenge for me bc I replenish with rain water only in extreme heat.

    A live is good, but honestly, anything that's easier for you. I have greens, and tomatoes. The first set of tomatoes seem to like the 20-20-20. I'm going back to the original Masterblend, until you report on more opinions of others reviews.
    Thank you so much!!

    Comments on a video! Larger pool, potentially, and beneficial to your channel overall. I'm working on an analog/electricless rain-gutter wicking build for wasabi currently.

    I appreciate that you are trying to standardize and simplify the things we can control. There are so many things that are out of our control and cause frustrations. What works for one person may not for the next because of a different environment or any other factors. I find comfort in the fact that I can mix up masterbland and put it in a container. That part doesn't change.

    My only question is, can I grow Yard Long beans in a 5 gal. bucket of Masterblend water? I guess the best answer to that question would be, "Try it!"

    Thank you for all you do! Waiting on cooler weather to restart my hydroponics, but my in ground and containers plants are doing better than I expected! recycled and old totes. Self wicking containers from Gardening With Leon. I do not use his recommended fertilizers, whatever Organics I got on clearance, and the masterblend! I also do not use the fill tube, just water from the top. As far as a give away, I always seem to miss everyone's lives. I can watch M-F 8-5, while my husband is at work. Never seem to be any lives from any channel during that time, LOL. I would prefer a random giveaway.

    Hi again. Since you are testing organic nutrients, I can't help recalling my old American neighbor that had in her patio lots of plants and herbs. She used to get some of her dog's poop and leave it on some water for couple of weeks. Later she would scoop some of that water and fertilize her plants. Have you seen this? Or is it safe for us to use similar technique for our Kratky system? Thanks for your help.

    • @KeepOnGrowin
      @KeepOnGrowin  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't, dogs are carnivores and can have some nasty things in their digestive system. In soil, over time microbes would break it down. Not that way in Kratky.

  • @goatwhsprr
    @goatwhsprr ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very well stated Mike, and i would like to add that for my first venture into Tomato container planting I bought Aerogarden liquid plantfood to put into 8 6 gallon kratky setups. The fertilizer contents equal 1000 mil and 4-5mil per gallon is recommended. Amazon for 27 bucks and I was kind of ok, but still too costly. Seeded tomatoes and started the potting around around March 29th. April came along and my local Walmart had the same Aerogarden plant food for 5 bucks ea. Bought all 20 of them. My IG has the plants at 9ft high and filled with fruit. Thanks for the help Mike..😊

    im in a conundrum here, i have highly chlorinated city water. is there a way to harvest rainwater and clean it? ive heard you cant use it bc of parasites and bacteria. gallons of water get pricey! any suggestions?

    • @KeepOnGrowin
      @KeepOnGrowin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything you see on my channel for the past 6 yrs is with chlorinated city water. We have a filter on the kitchen faucet, smells like a swimming pool. The outside tap for the plants is not filtered. Straight city water. You can always let it sit open for a day or so, chlorine dissipates.

    Thanks for your videos, I've learled a lot! I have just started using the 5-gallon bucket (tower) method, as of yesterday, so I'll see how it does! No aeration or pump in the buckets!
    As for the drawing, I like the Live Stream idea, though you do not need to give a better chance to those who show up. I'd use a random name picker or something myself, to pick the name(s) for the winner(s).

    i am a information hound and yep cheap , but not into major complications of ph etc. don't have time for it. been using wicking tubs for years outside and have played with hydro some in my shop . im still looking a cheap way to make my solution for my wicking tub tanks . once i can afford to climate control my shop i want to go hydro all year round. but health issues have hurt let alone the economy. if i can just figure out how to make and substitute my nature's source fertilizer . cost about 65 bucks a season in my wicking tubs but when you pick a gallon of husky cherries every 2 days kinda hard to leave that method. have so much food out of 12 tubs its hard to get rid of the extra. but the people i give cherry tomatoes too are going crazy over the flavor and ping pong ball sized fruit. going to do more greens when i can afford to buy the stuff . i keep everything and repurpose it . thanks for the information you give and soon i will probably go full hydro year round . insects are my major issue stink bugs and worms. hate to spray and always find them to late.
