      It's okay. but relatively underperforming in terms of style relative to Asia auto brands.

    Really good review, especially the idrive section. Even though I generally set up the destination in advance on my 320, I do sometimes scroll through the address book at the lights, and often reach down to change the heating without looking away from the road. Not here. FWIW trunk space is the same as a 320 touring and the rear a bit roomier. And for descents on my forthcoming iX1 I'll be recharging the motor, even if, as Bavarians say of visitors to the Alps from other German regions, my "tourist lights" will be on all the way down

      The iX1 is a great choice. I wish we had that in the US

  • @hawaiiguy1
    @hawaiiguy1 ปีที่แล้ว

    at the 12:03 mark, it showed the rear seat you were on could move fore and aft === is that correct for US/Canadian models? as no other US/Canadian reviews have shown it to move, only the European countries and other parts of the world does that. Only the seat back rake could be adjusted to 3 positions as far as the US/Canadian reviews show.

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  ปีที่แล้ว

      That was footage from an European model. Good point.

    I fully agree. Physical buttons, especially for HVAC and other important tasks, distract less because they require less attention, are quicker to use and offer haptical feedback. Unfortunately BMW couldn't resist to offer important features via touch screen or voice control only. And they have thrown away the iDrive Controller - at least for the 1 and 2 series cars. That's a shame. Of course BMW's cost controllers will be very happy because those measures save lots of $ for physical buttons.

    Question please. I have a 2019 BMW 330xi. The I drive is stating that the July 2022 software update is set up but that I would be notified by BMW when it can be uploaded to the car. Is this correct or did I do something wrong? Thanks.

    • @bmwblog

    • @bmwblog

      No one is saying that's not cool, but the issue is usability for things like controlling the AC. Nothing beats a simple switch or knob

    • @Rajesh-jj2wk
      @Rajesh-jj2wk ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bmwblog well yes the knobs are nice but a lot of millennials and Gen Z are moving away from dials. I think that’s where BmW is moving their focus to with a car like the x1. I also think the new idrive 9 will probably make it easier for climate controls on touch as well.

  • @joebloggs4191
    @joebloggs4191 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agree about the lack of physical buttons but BMW are not the only culprits. The Audi Q3 natural competitor is the BMW X3 I think and not the X1, the X1 competes with the Audi Q2?

    Just changed my mind about buying an X1 after this video. I have a Sienna with 1 knob and a bunch of buttons and it takes me like 20 button pushes to set my climate every day. The previous generation sienna had 3 knobs which I kiss every day. Lack of knobs is a deal breaker.

    Many US reviewers think car is bumpy, too much road noise, and has “pregnant pauses” in starting up and when stepping hard on throttle. Any comments?

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We mentioned that in the review as well. Kinda like a lag when pushing the acceleration. What was interesting was the fact that we didn't experience that in our 2 previous test drives. Granted, different cars. We reached out to BMW to find out more and we will retest that in another car.

    on an otherwise good review, harping on the touch screen and voice controls, is like a Blackberry user complaining about an iPhone not having a physical keyboard n 2012. Get over yourself.

    • @Hollapopp
      @Hollapopp ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a difference to use an iPhone while standing still - or control important features in the car while driving around. Most people will stop walking when they use apps on their iPhone. Why? Because they instinctively know that walking around and concentrating on smartphone tasks can be quite complex to coordinate. But when people are driving around with their cars at much higher speeds than pure walking they obviously think that using the touch screen will not distract them at all from concentrating on the current traffic situation.

      Maybe, but had a really bad experience trying to dictate destinations with my London accent on a test drive in England. I was asking for Portbury -10 miles away in the direction I'm driving a-and it repeatedly offered me Portbury, Scotland, somewhere I'd have to overnight if I wanted to go there. Maybe with time the car will learn my voice and I will learn to speek BMW better-but I was unimpressed by an algorithm which chose a destination 500 miles away in a direction I wasn't heading over the one I was driving to...
