The weird thing is that this scene wasn't even needed in KK2, other than to introduce the 'honk' part. But this scene is crucially important to just about everything related to Cobra Kai. Why Johnny fell out with Kreese, establishing Miyagi as much tougher than Kreese, why Kreese went out of business necessitating the creation of the Terry Silver character, why Johnny never disrespects Mr. Miyagi more than the bare minimum, story arcs for Bobby and Tommy, the mystery around Dutch, everything. One can say that if this two-minute segment had not been included, we might never have even had Cobra Kai. This was the seed of Cobra Kai.
Good point! We are lucky that the sequels were really good stories in their own right, and not just shallow cash grabs like many sequels and reboots today. Though we only got 3 (Daniel-son) movies, they really did make a very detailed universe.
Hmm, I’d say you’re right, but this scene is also in KK3. And it’s vital for the entire reason why Kreese ended up leaving and finding Terry Silver. So even if they hadn’t put in in KK2, I highly doubt KK3 would have made sense without this scene.
@@ShaunakDesaiPiano But since Cobra Kai is heavily dependent on Terry Silver for S4 and S5, your point also adds to why this two-minute vignette kicked off Cobra Kai.
Then when Daniel used the Miyagi pressure points on him, Kreese must have gone back to this very moment, realizing his life was not his own in that minute, though I think Daniel would have done it if the kids didn’t come into the scene.
part of me wonders if Miyagi actually did show mercy. He said himself that someone with no forgiveness in their heart(aka kreese) would be better off dead since their life is full of hate. After all Kreese's life went downhill after this encounter. So did he really show him mercy?
@@Bro_wat A logical person wouldn't have killed that fool. Let him live and suffer to hopefully LEARN from his life choices at that point because there was no reaching him otherwise. Too bad he didn't change his ways and leave Cobra Kai alone. Which it seemed he was until Terry Silver offered to get back at Daniel and Miyagi.
Yeah, he did not exactly admit it, but he sure did not deny it, when Daniel said, "No one was more badass than Mr. Miyagi." That seen in Cobra Kai is hilarious, especially when Johhny goes on his "No be there" rant.
At least in the gta verse. Daniel was glazing for Mr. Miyagi. While Johnny does respect Mr. Miyagi and calls him a badass. More so than Kreese. It shows that Johnny was more respectful to Miyagi than Daniel was. It took until long for Dutch to admit that Mr. Miyagi was badass. Until when he saw Miyagi’s final letter and read that he doesn’t mind waiting until Dutch learns and by then, he’s gone. And also the death of Johnny Lawrence, made him become the better man. Filling the void where Lawrence left off. Even honor Miyagi’s legacy to honor Johnny’s legacy by extension. And also Dutch respected Kreese and by then, Kreese was killed by poison from Terry Silver. Dutch honors Kreese’s legacy as well.
“You could have killed him, couldn’t you” “Hai” “Well why didnt you then” “Because Daniel-San, Miyagi don’t want to fight men off in the shower forever” Lmao
I know it's a minor thing, but I love the cinematography, editing, and framing from 1:27 - 1:34. We get our attention focused on the argument by seeing it over Daniel's shoulder through the car window, and then the next shot has Daniel in the same part of the frame, but out of focus, with Miyagi in extreme close up and in focus, which immediately orients us to where he is and who we're now meant to focus on - i.e. Miyagi. And then at 1:38 we get a close shot on Daniel again, with part of the frame blocked by the pillar of the car so we can focus on Daniel's horror and surprise, and then the shot switches back again with Kreese and Johnny in the same part of the frame as Daniel was, closer up and getting more involved with the scene. Just a great piece of film storytelling in five or six shots.
@Bella Knight also,we know johnny lost in the tournament before, so why didn't kreese kick johnny off the team back then?because johnny was never a three time champion
Who's here after season 4? I must admit, it was pretty cool seeing Older Kreese remember this exact scene. Knowing after all these years, he was wrong and he really did change.
I also love how at first Johnny was a little critical of Miyagi’s techniques but then Daniel reminded Johnny that Miyagi saved his life and when Daniel said Miyagi was badass Johnny lowkey agreed with Daniel and went right back to training
I wouldn't say he's changed in any meaningful capacity. As he himself said, he had 'a moment of sympathy.' Apparently a first. He's just as much a bastard as ever, though it's open-ended whether he might begin to change or not.
@@andyknightwarden9746 the door is open when it was slammed shut before. Tori has soften him a tad. and with his so called most loyal guy betraying him that is an eye opener
This reminded me of the scene in "Enter The Dragon" when the invited Martial Artists were travelling by boat to Han`s island for the Competition. The NZ bully asks Bruce Lee "What`s your style?", and Lee responds with "The art of fighting...without fighting!".
No matter how old these movies become, they will live forever. And forever they will remain great. Kobra Kai has ensured 2 generations of immortality of the Karate Kid.
Mr. Miyagi brilliantly showed Kreese and everyone watching how a toxic person literally destroys themselves, everything and everyone around them and he didn't even throw a punch. More like mental judo than anything else.
The irony being that it was originally going to be one of the *final* scenes of the first KK movie. But the makers rightly decided it was anticlimactic and so instead wrote it into the sequel. With the vastly inferior Will Smith remake, they did much the same thing - there's a deleted scene featuring a fight between Jackie Chan and the antagonist's master at the end of the tournament. It didn't work there and it wouldn't have worked in the original KK either, but yes, it's a brilliant little scene, ties it into the original, reminds the audience of who is who, and gives us an immediate insight into Miyagi's character - which is crucial since in no small way KK2 is Miyagi's story as much as, if not more than, Daniel's.
Daniel: You could’ve killed him couldn’t you? Miyagi: Hai Daniel: Then why didn’t you? Miyagi: because Daniel san we need him for the cobra Kai series 30 years later Daniel: Mother fu-
Never thought of this, but Mr, Miyagi fought Johnny in the beginning of 1. It really shows that "Karate for Defense" really is a rule he applies to his life. He's quick to defend a kid that realistically was his enemy not long before this. He would have never raised a hand the rest of his life, but knew Jonny needed someone to defend him.
Mr. Miyagi is a good person. His philosophy is the complete opposite of Cobra Kai, and for good reason. Kreese and Silver and men like them want everyone to think mercy is cowardice, but showing kindness and mercy actually displays incredible strength and restraint and reflects one’s character. Being kind and sticking up for others is always gonna be truly badass.
Daniel: You could’ve killed him, couldn’t you? Miyagi: Hai. Daniel: Why didn’t you then? Miyagi: That's a weird, effing question. Because it's illegal and there's lots of witnesses. Gotta love Miyagi’s intensity and anger when he echoes Kreese’s motto. I’ve always had the feeling that he was, at least for a moment, tempted to end Kreese then and there because of how evil a person Kreese was. But, in the end, he chose mercy.
No, he was teaching the man a lesson. His methods were wrong and now we see in the latest season of Cobra Kai, Kreese is starting to see the error of his ways.
No, he inflicted a worse punishment on Kreese. He said it himself--the lifelong humiliation is far worse than mere death. Also, prison isn't any fun at all.
Then he'll keep encountering situations where he'll be taught that lesson until he either learns it or runs out of chances. Which do you guys think will happen?

@@danielmartinezmayoral6959 Indeed. This was the moment when Johnny spiraled into depression and mediocrity. It only got worse with the untimely death of his mother and becoming a father before he was ready.

Karate Kid 2 was arguably the best sequel of the 80s other than Empire Strikes Back IMO, mainly because I had a major thing for the girl who played Kumiko, I always did like the "Oriental" look.
@richallenxbox1976 Yes I love Kumiko! She was for sure my favorite of Daniel's 3 girlfriends and who I wanted him to end up with. She was obviously kind bit also really brave, she stood up to Chozen every time and even attacked him and tried to strangle him at the end
3:13 As Chozen said in season 3 :-"May be he was trying to protect you" makes much more sense after watching this scene again, as Miyagi realised Daniel might end up in Jail if I ever tech him offence
I mean they clearly were not a fan of Kreese after he started choking Johnny out and rightfully so, regardless of Kreese’s sad past, he’s transformed into a psycho that enjoys tormenting and hurting people. Johnny was trained to do that but he generally knows right from wrong and has showed that he’s a genuinely good person just a bit rough around the edges. Season 4 of Cobra Kai is gonna be super interesting to watch how Johnny and Daniel work to bring Cobra Kai and Kreese and Terry Silvers down.
It makes me want to cry when I see this. In my mind, these people are like family, I grew up with these teachings. Nice to be able to pause the scene to see the wide shot of Kreese on the ground, with Johnny sitting on the curb dejectedly staring at Kreese. The fact that it was the last shot of Johnny in the films leads into the series pretty well.

Happy accidents, man.
Notice how Dutch turns his back on Johnny. Dude was complete psycho lol
"Mercy is for the weak." "Show no mercy." The Cobra Kai code, yet Kreese was scared shitless when he thought Miyagi was going to kill him 🤣
Furthermore to this day, he actually still thinks he could have taken Miyagi out.
Then when Daniel used the Miyagi pressure points on him, Kreese must have gone back to this very moment, realizing his life was not his own in that minute, though I think Daniel would have done it if the kids didn’t come into the scene.
He got that Vietnam flashback twice
part of me wonders if Miyagi actually did show mercy.
I love how in Cobra Kai, even Johnny admits nobody was more badass than Mr. Miyagi lol
Yeah, he did not exactly admit it, but he sure did not deny it, when Daniel said, "No one was more badass than Mr. Miyagi." That seen in Cobra Kai is hilarious, especially when Johhny goes on his "No be there" rant.
@@pound6599 By Johnny standards, I think that counts as admitting it lol

Miyagi to pretty to go to jail!
The expression on Miyagi’s face when Creese raised his fists said it all: “Really? You have any idea how many punks tried that?”
Because Cobra Kai Karate is based on "Jab punches" and "Sweep the leg". It's lame.
Ikr, he almost choked one of them out like a few seconds before that
@Bella Knight I've always wondered why miyagi didn't check on Johnny to see if he was okay?

@@paulsmith9192 idk

Kreese didn't literally destroy himself. He literally ruined his career and reputation. He figuratively destroyed himself.

One of the best opening scenes to a sequel. Ever.
_Whatever doesn't kill you, only makes you...(takes off mask) stranger..._
You could seamlessly edit the two movies together and create a four hour long _Karate Kid_ movie.

@03:10 when Mr Miyagi walks off like a boss and says “Daniel San, ladies no wait forever.” Makes me laugh every time I watch this lol!😂🤣😂🤣 RIP Pat

Too bad Kreese isn't letting any lessons sinking in...
