I have two chinese silk dresses from ages ago that never fit me...I JUST finished turning one into a 2 piece and adjusting the hips and there is frayed silk all over....mine is pretty messy but I tried to protect the fabric so maybe i can improve it in the future :)
The dress turned out wonderfully!! Btw have you considered buying a magnifying glass for when you seem rip? It helps prevent straining your eyes and works well with some other youtubers I watch.

Hey Wendy, i just came across your channel today, while searching for a review of the doll whose outfit you recreated beautifully and found this video. I have to agree with you about how painful seam ripping is to the eyes when dealing with brocade. i actually have a costume I'm transforming for the fourth or fifth time also made from a brocade that's 8 years old and has been four or five dresses from 2016 to present. i think you nailed the look perfectly and i liked the idea of making it a dress underneath instead of a skirt. I definitely keep my fingers crossed we do see a video of the recreation of the hanfu style dress we saw on the doll at the end of the video in the future. That sounds like a very fun project.
But unfortunately I don't know 🥲 Why do we need to moisturize our hands when working with brocade (10:43)? Wouldn't hand lotion stain the fabric? 😱

Unlikely that you'll see this, but is there a reason you don't attach sleeves before closing the sides of the vest? Maybe it's just me, but I find sewing on closed arm holes/neck holes so difficult so I always attach sleeves to arm holes and then sew up the bottom of the sleeve and side seam all in one go? Am I wrong?
How about you make a hanbok inspired dress next. I would love to see it.
