Namasthe, Dholak/Dhaol/Dholki they look similar to mrudangam. Those three themselves are different because of the little difference in size & shape. Mrudangam is much sophisticated(improved) instrument where in for each drum head( left and right) there are multiple layers of leather used. Dhol/dholki /dholak etc uses Goat's skin drum head there as mrudangam drum heads are made of cattle(cow/bedfellow ) skin and the bars(strips) are made of ox's skin or so. Dhol will not have karana/karane' (black)/shyahi . Few Dolak might have them though.
Sure. You can. Only thing is the chaap & dhind etc will not have the jhEnkara(jhamp jhamp kind of sound). Apart from that you can learn all the fingering (how to play) . All the best
