I am from Brazil, I love the Santana Dharma, I feel very connected to Shiva , and Krishana, I feel that the sound of mridanga make me feel closer to the deities.
I just have one word for you. R.E.S.P.E.C.T . You are a very good teacher. Wish every school had teachers like you in all subjects. Also my sincere thanks to the lady who edited this video so wonderfully. I have become a big fan of you, my brother.. Eagerly looking forward to the next module..
Praveen ji, Namaskaram! 🙏 I am impressed with your explanation on how to start learning this beautiful instrument that had constantly amazed me for so many years. I am thrilled to know that even I can learn Mridangam. But my questions here: 1. Where to buy a good Mridangam (we stay in the USA)? 2. I know it is not as easy as you had explained to a music-layman like myself. Do you suggest any live lessons for undergoing through a Guru-lead training? I request you to kindly suggest a proper school to get trained at least as an enthusiast. 3. How long do you think I should practice per day (for how many years) at least to play as a prayer to the god if not as an artist on the stage? Please respond as you get some time! Once again great thanks and a huge Namaskarams! 🙏🙏🙏
Namaste! Happy to know that you are resonating with this beautiful instrument. I'll try to help you as much as I can, pease write to me on praveensparshmusic@gmail.com
Beautifully demonstrated... with clarity.... very useful for beginners....also play in faster speeds so that the listeners will come to know the real punch in the lessons

Great tutorial! I want to start learning Mridangam and this helped me to know the basics of syllables, notes etc used in Mridangam really appreciate the effort and time put together to make this tutorial.
Namaskaram Sir! Such a great work you've done. You were one of my inspirations and I follow your concerts a lot. I can imagine how hard you would have worked to compile and build this content. A thanks from my side will not be sufficient for this tutorial. My respect and pranams to you! Regards, Balasankar
thank you so much im into your lessons for more than a week now it made me from nothing to a mediocre but my mridangam isnt tuned its my grandathers and its a nut and bolt one can you please make a video to tune it
Precious lessons and great delivery. Thank you Praveen! I am a complete beginner working on a theoretical exercise to map solkattu to mridangam strokes, and it is becoming obvious that there isn't a 1-1 mapping. For example, the solkattu 'tha' maps to stroke 'tha' in ' tha dhi dhom num' whereas the same 'tha' maps to 'dhi' in 'tha ka dhi na' and so on. Am I okay in assuming that at a phrase level, the mapping will always be the same? Like, I will always need to use 'dhi' for 'tha' whenever I play the phrase 'tha ka dhi na'? Will be grateful for any help or pointers!
Lol, I should have watched all three parts before asking questions. You have explained this in the second part. It does lead to more questions though. I will watch all the parts first before asking them :).
Hi Praveen -- can I ask what the origin of these lessons is? I study Kanjira with a teacher from Chennai, and he uses *exactly* the same phrases when I first started. I am wondering if it is a standard methodology in carnatic music. Thank you!
Hi Praveen, This is absolutely brilliant, thank you so much for taking the time to compile this for us. I wanted to find out about subdiv 6-7, in 6 you end with Ki Ta but in 7 you start with Dhom, please could you advise. Would help. Thank you once again.
Great Demonstration Sir, really appreciate your skills, time and effort. Can you please help with the notations, the links are not working. Thank you once again for your great work.
Thanks Praveen, Is there a place where i can purchase the instrument online? I have been trying this with out the instrument which seems to be difficult.
I have one question Sir. I am completely unaware of the knowledge of scale. But my mridangam doesn't sound like you. Would you tell me in which scale it should be tuned that it sounds exactly like you?
For the Mridangam to sound good, it has to be tuned perfectly. If you are new to this instrument, I suggest you take it to a Mridangam maker. He will certainly help you fix it.
