Mr. Television , Milton Burle, giving a young Elvis a Billboard award...classic old vaudeville comic & entertainer and early television variety host meets the then, younger generation of the mid-late 1950s star Elvis.
A little history from this 77 yr old female. I was 11 when I listened to top 40 countdown, 1 FRi. afternoon in late Jan. 1956 and heard Heartbreak Hotel. So many call in request had the DJ. repeating the song. It was just a unique new sound I loved, and I bought the .89 cent 45, followed a few months later by purchasing I Want You, I Need you I Love You. That winter Elvis appeared on 6 Dorsey Bros, TV shows, which was produced by Jackie Gleason. The Dorsey Bros was, not a very popular show, so I didn’t know about it. By June, more people tuned into Milton Berle to watch Elvis. His performance of Hound Dog, was considered vulgar and most adults and critics were negative. However he was so popular, that Ed Sullivan paid an unheard of price to book Elvis for several shows, starting in Sept. By then every teen in America tuned in. I recall my parents watching with me, and my dad laughing. There was never such a swift rise to fame, before Elvis. My friend and I waited in line to see Love Me Tender that Fall. My 7th grade teacher, a nun, used to bring a record player to class, so we could listen to some classical music, as opposed to listening to Elvis. Elvis didn’t go away, and eventually even adults and other singers and celebs, acknowledged his great voice. What is amazing is how he could dance with no lessons. Jailhouse Rock, Bosa Nova and other songs from movies and live performances demonstrated all his talents.
Dani, I am so glad you did a reaction to the this song. "I Want You, I need You, I Love You" is one of my top all-time favorite Elvis songs and I have requested you do a reaction to it for awhile. Thank you. I knew you would love it. It went to number one on the pop charts in 1956 and sometimes I feel this song doesn't get the credit it deserves for being one of Elvis' all-time classics. 1956 was truly the year of Elvis. It was the year that Elvis burst onto the music scene and became a worldwide phenomenon. Other than Frank Sinatra in the 1940s and The Beatles in the 1960s, the world has not had a super idol talent, embraced by the masses, whose music and style were so groundbreaking and revolutionary that it changed the course of popular music and influenced everyone who came afterwards like Elvis did in the 1950s.
I remember seeing this live on the TV back when I was 6 years old, my older sister was crazy about Elvis and she made sure I saw every thing he did on television back in the day! I think I saw just about every time he was on TV, there was only three tv networks/stations back then, it was really easy to keep up plus every time Elvis was on TV, TV Guide make a really big event of it, plus it was in all the newspapers, before and after. Thanks for keeping his music alive and relevant. Oh, one of the advantages of being an old guy is I got to see Elvis live four times starting in 1971, the very best memories for sure!
@@rong805 Your right, they haven't got a clue and it's sad because living and enjoying life on true life's terms is basically denied to them through no fault of their own in reality and it can't be undone!
Dani, Milton Berle lived until 2002. He was 94 when he died. Every interview he did until he passed he always said how much he loved Elvis and just knew the very first second he saw him that the world, pop culture, and music was never going to be the same. Many people at the time (1954-56) were skeptical or plain out offended by Elvis because not even Frank Sinatra had made such an impact on pop culture, and rock n roll till that point was largely underground and considered devils music across America. Elvis blew the doors down on so many facets of our culture we do not even realize it today. America was a different country when he came out. He changed America. It went from black and white to color.
Elvis, the man that God shined on, with the most unique and awesome voice and knowledge of music, and a charisma that will continue to span the generations. RIP sweet Elvis, you will never be forgotten. Dani, thank you for giving your all in your reactions.
Thank you for reacting to this song! I'm super old and this has been one of my favorites since I was a pre-teen. When Elvis went in to make a record for his mama and was asked who he sang like he said "I don't sing like nobody". He sure got that right!
Yeah this is the same show where he did Hound Dog, that caused them to film Elvis from the waist up. Milton loved Elvis. He always said great things about him all the way I til his death. Great song and performance. Thanks Dani. Great.
@@timcarr6401 No you're not understanding what I'm saying. He did Hound Dog on this episode of Berle's show that would cause that controversy of the waist up.
He appeared on Ed Sullivan 3 times. And it was only the last appearance that they showed from the waist up. All the songs he played that night were mainly ballads or medium tempo ballads except for a short version of Hound Dog. So the waist up controversy was really a bust...
There is more footage of Elvis on that show with Milton Berle and also another different Berle show broadcast from the USS Hancock in San Diegio on April 3, 1956. You might want to check those out too.
Pure raw talent and musicianship. Just think of it, three guys on instruments, and lead singer with his 4 vocal accompanying him. That's it. Elvis came to my hometown of Portland Oregon in 1957 for an outdoor concert in the old Multnomah Stadium before 14,000+ fans. A local newspaper journalist wrote about the event glowingly and said that when Elvis was done with his set and it was announced that “Elvis has left the building,” adoring female fans ran down onto the field and began pawing at the ground he walked on to take home as a souvenir!

I have personally owned the original 45rpm, since 1956. (Flip side: MY Baby Left Me) Still plays fine, although, obviously, released as Mono. The lasting power of these vinyls, if taken care of, is amazing.
So quick story about this song, when he was flying to the studio session in April of '56, his plane had engine problems and almost fell out of the sky. He was said to be so distraught during the session, only a few takes were done and the final cut had to be spliced together from different takes.
I grew up in Memphis. I was born in 57 so too young to remember but he lived a few blocks right before it big. He almost hit my mother coming out of Piggly Wiggly. He was driving with his friends and my mother was in our 55 Ford lol❤
(I initially posted this story on the wrong song reaction video--Love Me) The recording session for this song was done on a tight schedule, just after Elvis had flown in on a private twin-engine plane where the engines cut off temporarily, and there was turbulence among other problems. Perhaps because Elvis was still shaken, none of the individual takes was perfect enough to be used, but the producer spliced together, with Scotch tape, segments from two different takes so seamlessly you can't tell, and supposedly he never told Elvis. www.elvis-history-blog.com/i-want-you.html
Wikipedia: Ray Walker - bass vocals [with Jordanaires] (1958-2013) Ray Walker (born March 16, 1934) is a member of the singing group The Jordanaires. Walker has been the bass singer for the group since 1958.[1] During his tenure with The Jordanaires, the group was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the NACMAI (North American Country Music Association International) Hall of Fame, the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Walker was also awarded the "Avalon Award," the highest award given for contribution and accomplishment by his alma mater, David Lipscomb University, in 2005. Walker has been recorded nearly every week since he was 13 years old. He began singing in public at 6 years old. In the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, he was sometimes recorded on 200 songs a week, as aids in church worship in spirit and truth series. Up to 2006, it is estimated that Walker has been recorded on more than 200,000 songs (including repeats for different services and classes), outside of his professional recording with the Jordanaires, and it is possible that he is the most recorded voice in the history of music over his 66 years of performing and teaching. The Jordanaires also backed up Elvis Presley for 15 years beginning in 1956 until he started doing two shows a night in Las Vagas.
I believe this song may have been directed toward his mother? But yes Angelic singing and it's from a much older style for sure. It reminds me of stuff from the 20s and 30s.
Love this Video.I dont really know what it is I like about this song. The way he sings it I guess,he makes it his own as usual. He's sometimes even better when performing a weaker song, though I wouldn say that bout this one
I think Elvis got the lyrics wrong at the end. I guess it was a live show and couldn’t be changed. He said I need you. I miss you.I want you. It’s supposed to be I want you, I need you, I love you With all my heart

Aww thank you!
I believe this song may have been directed toward his mother? But yes Angelic singing and it's from a much older style for sure. It reminds me of stuff from the 20s and 30s.
If you aren't in love with someone, just listen to this song and you will be.
Love this Video.I dont really know what it is I like about this song. The way he sings it I guess,he makes it his own as usual. He's sometimes even better when performing a weaker song, though I wouldn say that bout this one
Amazing reaction, as always. Could you please react to Pieces of My Life by Elvis? Thanks Hun X
Beautiful reaction😊🇳🇴
I think Elvis got the lyrics wrong at the end. I guess it was a live show and couldn’t be changed.
He said I need you. I miss you.I want you.
It’s supposed to be
I want you, I need you, I love you
With all my heart
Have you reviewed his GI blues song from the movie? Great channel and reviews. :)

The Trouble with Girls
@@victorwaite9886 No, sorry. Try again.
It was Live a Little, Love a Little. I got the two titles mixed up in my head. He was a photographer in Live a Little
@@victorwaite9886 correct.
