You are absolutely correct! It is the performance where they dressed him up in a tuxedo and he afterwards rebelled against it. They were trying to clean up his so called vulgar act.

Steve Allen wanted to change Elvis, and Elvis, being the good sport he was, humored Steve.

This is 56 the seve Allen show . This was when elvis had to wear the suit and tail because his performance of hound dog on the Mertle berle show previously was so outrageous . This is also the hound dog song which was in the movie .
BUT this is a Fantastic song and shows elvis soft side

Yes this was part of a very small era When the colonel was trying to force Elvis To clean up his act. Elvis was very very smart… Did what he needed to do to get the reach. He only needed to do this a few times. After that he was known all over the world and it didn’t matter what he did he could’ve sung a phone book and it would’ve went platinum!

Hey girl, I watched this performance in '56 and I was 12. Steve Allen was areal pill. He thought Elvis was a joke however he knew he would get high ratings of he had him on his failing show. Elvis is struggling not to move during this sweet song. Many male musicians hated Elvis because their women loved him. Isn't it funny now, no body knows who Steve Allen was unless they lived those years. But people all over the world know the name Elvis. I did a study of Elvis statues from all over the world, an Indian guy did a book about it and found that every major country in the world has an Elvis statue of memorial. Be Blessed

This was his 2nd hit song, in 1956, and yes it is during the same Hound Dog singing to the dog appearance. What amazes me is the newspapers and magazines and many adults were dissing Elvis, due to his recent gyrations of Milton Berle show, yet he still looks and sings like he owns the stage.

Another enjoyable reaction. He was introduced on the show by Steve Allen who said they wanted to see a different side of Elvis - basically this was another way of saying he had to clean up his act after controversial performance of Hound Dog on the Milton Berle show. Elvis was not at all happy and said this was the first time he had ever sold out. (His true self)

This was one of my very first favorite Elvis songs. Thanks for the reaction, Brandy! This is from 1956 on The Steve Allen Show which was the same show where Elvis sang to the hound dog. I think it was Steve Allen that came up with how Elvis would be dressed and would perform on his show. He, like many others, thought Elvis was a fad that would quickly disappear. Elvis felt he was being made fun of and hated it.

@Kathi Fielder You're absolutely right. Elvis actually wouldn't officially record "Hound Dog" until after he performed it live on The Steve Allen Show.
Scotty Moore gave an interview about it and said that there was no doubt in everyone's minds there during that session who Elvis was wailing at, calling a "hound dog".
Later on, in 1974, Steve Allen was at one of Elvis's concerts and Elvis introduced him to the audience and in his usual self- effacing humor, joked at one point, "He had me singing to a dog, man." But then went on to close his introduction with, "I love him for it. But I'll never forgive him."
Steve Allen would also give his own version of events in a 1990's tv interview in an effort to clear his name and reputation once and for all (in the eyes of Elvis fans, I guess; God knows Elvis fans are very loyal 😉).

This is one of my dad's favorite Elvis songs.i love Elvis in 56 before the army shaved hus sideburns and he became Caruso for the better part of a decade.
And yes i didnt realize til you mentioned it but it looks like its from the same Steve Allen show where he sang to a dog in that suit. You should check out the show that got him in trouble, Hound Dog live on the Milton Berle show

This isn't a live performance, but it does include an Elvis slideshow and is another 1956 song: Elvis Presley - Any Way You Want Me (That's How I Will Be) (2:42). And I hope you can get to this request sooner rather than later because it's SO good: Elvis Presley - Are You Lonesome Tonight (Black Leather Sit-Down Show #2) (3:40).

It was Steve Allen ,he wanted to embarrass Elvis because he didn't like Elvis, but the funny part is that Steve got better ratings with Elvis being on his show, than Ed Sullivan did ,so Ed had to swallow his pride and have Elvis do three different shows to bring his ratings up

Okay, I guess my last comment didn't go through. * sigh *
Really 💖💖💖💖 your reaction to this one, Miss BrandyBerry.
If you like Elvis love songs, I have a LOT I could suggest to you.
But since you loved Bill Medley's "I Just Wanna Make Love To You", I'm gonna suggest two Elvis blues songs.
    - "It Feels So Right"
    - "Reconsider Baby" (extended sax version).
If you like Elvis singing the blues, I can certainly give you more suggestions.
Two Elvis love song suggestions from the 1950's.
    - "Anyway You Want Me"
    - "First In Line"
And one that I also suggest from 1960 (by Elvis, of course)
    - "Thrill Of Your Love"
I tried leaving links but I guess one if the links didn't get approved. Ah, well. Such is YT.
Thank you so much for a very lovely reaction 💗🙌👌 once again, Miss BrandyBerry!
    TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & ✌ & 🙏 to you & yours 💕

You nailed it. This is a couple weeks after the Milton Berle Show when Elvis did Hound Dog. This is when Elvis was on the Steve Allen Show and that wanted to tame him down and the Colonel set this up. You'll see more here. th-cam.com/video/w3r5AiBJr2M/w-d-xo.html
