My favorite scene is the ending when she walks passed all the protesters who supposedly care about Ruth and her baby and are fighting amongst each other over her case yet no one actually notices her actual presence 😂
Laura Dern blew me away in this movie. The word "fearless" is thrown around too much I think re: actors, but that's what her peformance was: no holds barred fearless. Hilarious and hearbreaking.
Ur a little late with this but I'm glad people finally get this movie! I've loved this movie since it's first showing. I do understand why this movie was not popular back then because Alexander Payne was so ahead of his time. Anyway. Glad someone gets this.
I always tell people about this movie, and I’m always shocked no one has watched it. Even film nerds. When I show it to people, people always love it and Say “I can’t believe I’ve never seen this movie.”
I don't know what it is I like about this movie, it's not the language or a beauty queen for sure, but I taped it and have watched it many times. I think it is because the actors are so realistic...that is, all but Burt Reynolds, however Ruths mother is played by her real mother, Diane Ladd.
I am pro-life but I really don't go for the graphic images, unless really needed. There are some people who need to understand what abortion does and there are some people who get pushed the opposite way when they see the images. The most awesome thing we can do for women about to make the decision to have an abortion is pray for them and love them NO MATTER WHAT:)
This movie had a lot of great character actors. Alexander Payne directs movies that you can follow all the way...quite the opposite of David Lynch..who leaves the viewer confused most of the time.

Wonderful film. One of the few films with the courage to confront the "culture wars" head on. Laura Dern is excellent in it, too.

It was an amazing performance
Before this movie i wasnt real impressed with her acting skills.
She should have received an Oscar for this.
This film is still relevant if not even more relevant now.

Brilliant, brilliant film.

Nothing has changed.
LOL! The moon song! I love this movie!
I show this film in my Composition II class as part of a lesson on the Rogerian Argument, which is coming to a middle ground.
The film does take a side though. It’s message is “leave Ruth alone.” Which would suggest the choice should be hers.

very good review of a really good movie.
Did she end up miscarrying at the end?
As I remember she just snuck away during a moment the two sides were so busy fighting each other over her that no one noticed.
She did. There’s a scene before she’s suppose to have her scheduled abortion where she gets out of bed and there’s blood on the sheets.

I love this film so much. We all know Ruth would have voted for Trump.
