A lot of people forget two major points for games releasing in early access: 1. Funding. The company gets no money or funding (unless they have a publisher) until people buy the game, and launching into early access is much more trustworthy than pre-buying a game (like with The Day Before) 2. Improvements. Testing their own game internally provides a much lower sample size and either takes away from development time if the devs are the ones testing, or sucks up funds if they're paying people to playtest. Launching their game into early access before it's finished is usually a good thing (as long as you don't do it like Tarkov did) to do for the health and later quality of the game, because you get a large sample size with ample feedback and your devs can spend all of their time on the job actually doing development. Because of the way the "Early Access" term has been abused so much by companies who just want an excuse to put out an unfinished game, people nowadays just treat a game in "Early Access" as they would or at least similarly to if the game was just doing a full release. GZW is doing an early access launch the way it should be done, and people saying they shouldn't have released it so early are completely missing the point that they are doing this specifically to aide in the development of the game.
I think "early access, aloha or betas" should have a set time period. Too many games hide behind those words, like you said. Is it an alpha if it's 20 years later?
@@SuperMontsta I completely agree, I'm just pointing out that in this situation GZW is actually doing things right and using the term "Early Access" properly
Honestly I feel this is a rare case for releasing early access for gray zone. I feel its got a good foundation to build from, but the community will feed them ideas and tweaks to help expand this environment. Its a fine line but with this influx of money they need to step back and think wisely how to spend it and hit each milestone to be a great game. I'm hoping this will be the case.
Gray Zone is in danger of pulling a World War 3. They pushed release too early to try and catch Battlefield's audience when they thought they had an advantage (they didn't) and though the game had a solid foundation and could have been a powerhouse, jumping the gun killed them and the game never recovered.
Not the same. WW3 studio changed publishers more times than I can count. This is GZW devs first in into a big game, so they have the passion for it, but also the lack of experience. So patience will be needed.
For $250 you can buy almost the entire nominees of game of the year 2023. Spider-Man 2. Alan wake 2. BG3. All of them. Or just the same tarkov. Man. Just let the game go guys. It’s time. It was time when we had this issue with the $150 cash grab.
Coincedentally I quit playing a WHILE back, tried again for a couple weeks at the beginning of this wipe and JUST uninstalled it before watching this video.
i think the difference for gray zone is everyone realized and recognizes how much potential it has and how solid its foundation is, the reasonable expectation of the consumer is that it will improve performance and game loop wise. and build into this into a winner with community input and no AAA restrictions
It seemed like a pre-emptive reaction to the threat of Grayzone, which already featured the mode natively. When Grayzone fixes server lag, Tarkov is history.
I'm very glad Vigor was mentioned in this podcast. It may not be the best game of it's type but, it sure was interesting at the time when it came out on console. This podcast episode was a 3/3 Bowls for me!
I’m so confused how people think early access is bad for a game…. I forget what game I played but when it first came out there was 5 min of content, as the game grew and kept going that 5min became 5hours, and eventually into 20hours, and then into a full game…… Like early access is used to give you the person interested a chance to explore, and test, and give feedback. Where the devs take that and expand and grow and keep working, this also gives them money from people wanting to invest… Star citizen is a great and fantastic space sim, and yes the money is bad but everything is earnable or lootable in game. But like gray zone just needs time to cook, but showing its hands “early” is actually good, so what if you get bored and do everything, come back next year. That’s how I play Valhiem, and Starcitizen, or grounded, total war warhammer, Helldivers, it’s how I have 500 hours on Dawn of war Soulstorm through mods, or how I kept playing payday2 and Sherpa now with 2,500 hours. Early access is live service, which is why full release live service games suffer, because they need to be finished on launch, and then add to itself. Gray zone has a beefy chance to be great, just needs time to cook.
the thing which I don't see talked about much which I believe has a massive impact on PC game reception is simply performance. sooo many people seem to be old graphics cards / hardware.. and this is why I can't see Gray Zone turning the tide anytime soon
