@@myztik5716 I don’t think map checking effects game endings, but that still could be considered cannon because James and Mary visited the town many time, so assuming nightmare world doesn’t change it the building layout would look somewhat the same.
Imagine if they made that when you get Maria to follow you that she reacts more to what happens in game, similar to Ashley in RE4 but more, like when enemy appears that she sometimes yells to shoot him if James has gun or hit him with club, that she occasionally comments are we lost if you take too much time to get somewhere, or when you get to puzzles that she has some extra dialogue etc. It would bring huge immersion, they didnt think about it back then, it doesnt require anything special, its just extra dialogue connected to whats currently happening in game.

I'm not intending to divulge a tremendous amount about myself, but I have to say that from when I first played this game back in 2001 this title has changed tremendously in meaning to me over the years. In 2018, I got married to the love of my life, and it was the happiest I'd ever been... For about two months life was as good as I'd ever hoped it would be. Then my wife started... showing symptoms, terrible symptoms. As you might imagine, my life took an abrupt 360 before the honeymoon period even had time to finish warming up. Long story short, about a year if hell later I had found out that she had a previous diagnosis of an illness she had kept from me -and for one reason or another she stopped taking the medication which was managing her illness. At that point, after the merciless brutality of the experience, I totally understood what would drive a someone to take the life of the one they loved most -not out of rage, anger, or hatred, but doing everything and anything they could to avoid allowing such things to come to bloom when there really was no fault regarding the illness. You know your life has taken you to a dark place you will never come back from when you can identify with the lead character of (without question) the darkest installment of one of the bleakest, most horrifying horror anthologies known to mankind. It goes without saying that not a day can ever go by that I don't wonder what would have transpired in my own life had I the misfortune of having despair consume me in a similar manner... but I honestly don't think it would have been too different an experience from what James went through. Just finished this game last night in 2024. I was able to download PCSX2 emulator on my pc, run the game in 4k, and then plug that into an old HD CRT Tv from 2004 with an adapter and component cables, and WOW the game looks incredible that way, especially on the TVs “vivid” mode! The colors !😮❤ I originally kinda hated this games mechanics when first playing. I never played the game as a child but i tried to play the game a few years ago, and i hated the way the camera would move around randomly, and some of the puzzles would make you want to pull your hair out. I shelved the game, and eventually sold it although half regretting the decision. Fast forward a few years, my buddy and I were cleaning out an old back taxes house that was really run down and falling apart. I went to the shelf at the house and looked thru the dvds and I found guess what, Silent Hill 2 for PS2! I thought, hell I just literally found the game in this creepy house, so why not give it justice again. I went home and set up my emulator on my laptop. It was a “sign”. Upon playing the game a second time, knowing more of what to expect, I wasnt so angry at the game anymore and I finally understand why the game is made the way it is, the devs really had an art direction in mind, and I was really able to appreciate this especially with the old CRT screen. The sound design is a flawless victory, the visuals are beautiful, and some of the voice acting and facial models for Maria are just so sexy and perfect. Each character plays an amazing roll and you really start to understand how silent hill effects them all. I found myself really sad for Angela in the end especially, and I wish that she had some sort of closure at the end. This game really is an interesting touch on depression and the human mind, and especially how fragile we all are. One step too far and we are driven to madness just like the game. Some visuals in the game are particularly disturbing and uncomfortable and I honestly dont think this game could have come out in 2024 without backlash because of our current political situations. Angela’s flaming staircase with the pictures of a violated female figure on the walls are particularly interesting and thought provoking. To put these themes of murder and sexual abuse in a video game nonetheless, is a really interesting way to make people aware of these instances, and Im glad this game came out in 2001 when it did. Really glad. It cant be censored. My favorite visual spots in the game: James running through town at night to find the buried object at the statue especially the tunnel and monsters under the chain link and the creepy rv Maria getting angry at the end before morphing into the demon. Her face and glowing eyes The gallows room with the sweeping horses noise The Lakeview hotel model in general especially the rising water and sound design after james realizes he did what he did. Maria’s sketchy stripper night club and music The final room in the hospital lobby after pyramid head kills Maria at the elevator, and piano music before james goes into the night. Overall this game is a mature and beautiful effort to showcase human weakness and suffering in a chosen video game medium. Kudos to team silent, and I REALLY hope that the new remake does this game justice for a new generation of players!
its interesting, being the remake my first exposure to this game and silent hill franchise, i just beat it like 3 hours ago, and now im here looking at how the original stood, and yea, i can see why people adore this game before and now im happy i got to experience the remake, i love this game to bits and pieces now, and i cant wait to replay it more
I wonder why no one ever talks about the gameshow-elevator. And how it played it off perfectly without being abrasive at any point? Not sure how it does it. If you try that in today's games you can't without it being cringe. I would say it works because it engages the player and makes them feel like pyramid head might be chasing them in the later segment because they guessed wrong in the elevator, even though that happens regardless. Seriously, there's no way of answering this without backtracking.😂
@chillfactory9000 sooo basically it's genius. They let the story play out like it normally would. But they engage the player by making them question themselves whether or not they answered correctly in the elevator.
Because the water represents James' feelings -- he's drowning out what he did to his wife in the hotel. That's why Mary and Maria both keep reminding him he forgot the video tape they made there. The Hotel is the most intimate place James spent with Mary because it was before she got sick. He's submerging the memories of her, and when he remembers, the hotel begins to drain itself and it looks damp and disgusting.
Thank you so much for the playthrough, ever since I had my PS2 copy stolen years ago, it's kinda close as I can get to playing it again. The older I get, the more I appreciate this title.
I love these games, all that I want are just better controls and more enemies as far as remakes goes, but it looks like a whole new game is coming. New version?
The controls are perfect. Nothing to it. SH games are not about combat. The new butchered DEI-make indeed did AGAIN what the loathed Homecoming tried 15 years ago: turned the game into RE4 style OTS action game, and cranked up action. All while butchering the characters, the VA, the pacing and the OST.
49:33 I remember reading this the first time I played this game and thinking nothing of it. When I played SH4 I instantly thought back to it. Such a nice little detail
They indeed fucked it up beyond repair. Underaged zoom zooms who love TLOU / RE4R style 3rd person action-horror games will love it, though, since it's so handholdy and "less problematic" with its themes and character designs.
@@GugureSux The gameplay is improved I’m not sure how that’s a bad thing? The characters and the story is still all there and subtly not much has changed. Yeah maybe a little too much combat for a silent hill game and a lot more puzzles but that’s the only issue. It’s still the same exact game.

It improved combat and enemy aggressiveness, it expanded on the environment, the Eddie boss fight is a million times better. @@GugureSuxcope and seethe. Let others enjoy what they want. The remake improved many things. You’re just jaded. Much better acting than this goofy stuff. Agreed. The generic OTS view really kills the beautiful in-game cinematography, and results tons of artificial handholding being implemented in the game.
Hey there! Examining the knife at certain points is required for a particular ending. I didn't recheck what times I needed to do this, so just did it when I had a moment to. I hope that clarifies and you were able to enjoy the playthrough :D
Ooh thank you for helping me understand. I’ve really enjoyed your play throughs. I watched your SH1 playthrough in entirety not too long ago and I’m half way done with this one. I’m hoping I can play for myself on an emulator someday
It's the original PC port (yes, 2-4 were multiplat already 20 years ago), with the fan-made Enhanced Edition mod, that makes it easier to run on modern systems + makes it work in widescreen, alongside with many bug fixes and enhancements. It is arguably the definitive way of playing the SH2, right after owning a real CRT + PS2 of course.
pro tip: if you knock out your enemy to the ground, don't hit with the pipe, kick it pressing x without r2, it kills instantly, also you can directly kick those cockroaches and then it dies with only one kick.
Just finished this game for the sixth time, forgot about the long dialogue that Mary gave to James at the end. What a sad game. I will play these games for the rest of my life. This game has the saddest ending, but I still say that Origins and 3 are the scariest SH games, and Origins is my favorite one too.
SH2 has always been considered less outright scary, and definitely one of the easiest games in the series. Its beauty lies elsewhere, in the themes, haunting atmosphere, and the story.
Strangely random but i remember one day i woke up in the middle of the night with the sound inside the wall that fades in and out at 37:46 stuck in my head and i kept on imagining it to bring me back to sleep and since then that sound has brought me a feeling of comfort every time I hear or think about it, kinda odd
The s**ual component in this game as a psychological horror element, not only for James, is something we probably will never seen in a mainstream horror game again. From the obscene enemy design, to Maria, to Pyramid Head, to the friggin room design when fighting the Daddy monster (which is a monster literally looking like a r**e scene), it's all very unsettling. And the remake will SO fail at doing that, mark my words.
I've been intrigued by this game since I was a kid. For some reason I've never played it, only watched it yet I can never remember much about it even after watching the whole thing a few times now.
Does anyone know if you can check the trunk of James’ car in the very beginning, or any other point in the game? If it says anything when you try to open it at all?
Funny how people are crying about how James is copying Leon in the remake when this game came out first. It was Leon who changed his whole burnette hair and style to match James. :D

My favorite visual spots in the game:
James running through town at night to find the buried object at the statue especially the tunnel and monsters under the chain link and the creepy rv
Maria getting angry at the end before morphing into the demon. Her face and glowing eyes
The gallows room with the sweeping horses noise
The Lakeview hotel model in general especially the rising water and sound design after james realizes he did what he did.
Maria’s sketchy stripper night club and music
The final room in the hospital lobby after pyramid head kills Maria at the elevator, and piano music before james goes into the night.
Overall this game is a mature and beautiful effort to showcase human weakness and suffering in a chosen video game medium. Kudos to team silent, and I REALLY hope that the new remake does this game justice for a new generation of players!
I love how Eddie adjusts to the light and immediately flies off into a rant about how easy is it to kill someone
It took me over 20 years to play it but I am so glad I did. One of a kind game. 10/10 no notes
1:40:27 this old blood stained dirty asf mattress that’s in this creepy abandoned hospital filled with monsters is SO comfy lol
This game dialogues ale ridiculous 90% of the time so... :D
its interesting, being the remake my first exposure to this game and silent hill franchise, i just beat it like 3 hours ago, and now im here looking at how the original stood, and yea, i can see why people adore this game before and now im happy i got to experience the remake, i love this game to bits and pieces now, and i cant wait to replay it more
17:48 I’m just here for that whole plot reference spoiler 😌 hidden in plain sight beneath the radio static
apparently in an early version it was too clear so it actually mega spoiled the whole game lmao
james it was not worth putting your hand in that toilet 😭
At least he got the handgun bullets on a locked safe
i thought this was so gross but it makes sense because james has no regard for his own comfort at that moment in the game LMAO
42 hours to go. I wonder which ending it's gonna be...
And the answer isssss:
Angela Ending. Kinda caught me off guard, not many people go for that one.
What happens in Angela ending?@@G0thCrayon

Absolute masterpiece and that soundtrack.....

haha love it
16:46 leave him be, he just wants to dance
2:04:06 🤣 bro`s soul left his body
😂
Maria's gravity defying hair made me chuckle.
Gave me a feeling of helplessness, which added to the vibes. The oddly cheery tone also feels horribly off.
@chillfactory9000 sooo basically it's genius. They let the story play out like it normally would. But they engage the player by making them question themselves whether or not they answered correctly in the elevator.
Every time pyramid head pop up it look lile he clapping sum
😂😂😂
@@sb416 Shower thoughts am I right 🤣
Well yeah, not to spoil anything but Pyramid Head literally partly is a manifestation of James’s sexual frustration

I thought the hotel burned down? So why is it wet and flooded?
Because the water represents James' feelings -- he's drowning out what he did to his wife in the hotel. That's why Mary and Maria both keep reminding him he forgot the video tape they made there. The Hotel is the most intimate place James spent with Mary because it was before she got sick. He's submerging the memories of her, and when he remembers, the hotel begins to drain itself and it looks damp and disgusting.
It's ruins that burned down, now soaked
Words don’t describe the feeling I get playing this game
So true. It feels heavy and indescribable

Binaural audio FTW
Awesomeness! The best version you can play. I’ve got the ps2 version running on my Steam Deck. Pretty solid handheld experience.
I absolutely love this game. First played it when I was 10 and still in my top 5 of favorite games ever, even 20 years later.
This was the first game I ever played on PS2
@@DemstarAusI just recently dug out my old PS2, and this game a few nights ago, this game still makes me incredibly uneasy. What a fantastic game
How were you guys capable? My god the first one was horrifying and trying to solve the puzzles for me was maddening.
Thank you so much for the playthrough, ever since I had my PS2 copy stolen years ago, it's kinda close as I can get to playing it again. The older I get, the more I appreciate this title.
Your not alown there the older i got i got more and more immersed in the story of silent hill
5:06 Literally my posture
(I actually need to fix it, bad 😭)
Is Laura voiced by the same actor that plays the little kid from the King of the Hill episode "Hank's Bully?" Sure sounds like it.
Great game never gets old mary stunning character.
I love Mary so much.
LOVE your videos, keep up the good work!
It's always been more than a game.
Why was pyramid head was dancing with the monster 😂 when jame was hiding in the wardrobe
Im part excited for the remake and part scared they're going to fck up the story. The worst thing they can do is wreck Angela's story.
It's Bloober Team, it will be a dumpster fire
It won't come close to the OG we can only hope that it will be ok
They indeed fucked it up beyond repair. Underaged zoom zooms who love TLOU / RE4R style 3rd person action-horror games will love it, though, since it's so handholdy and "less problematic" with its themes and character designs.
@@GugureSux The gameplay is improved I’m not sure how that’s a bad thing? The characters and the story is still all there and subtly not much has changed. Yeah maybe a little too much combat for a silent hill game and a lot more puzzles but that’s the only issue. It’s still the same exact game.
@@Kiddo_williams Zoomer here who played up until the apartments, both versions. Seems pretty similar even design wise, other than the first enemy encounter being different and the apartment looking different
Honestly the part that freaks me out about Silent Hill games the most is JUMPING INTO A HOLE WHEN YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW DEEP IT IS OR WHAT'S AT THE BOTTOM!!!!
Like wtf who does that
Still haven’t played this , can’t wait anymore for the new one
The demake sucks ass. It's by no means a replacement for the 2001 original SH2.
Besides, you should never start a series with the sequels. Look up the "SH PC Guide 2023", and download the OG SH1-4 for your PC. They are piss easy to run these days.
@@GugureSuxcope and seethe and let others enjoy what they want. It greatly improved the atrocious acting of the original. It improved combat and enemy aggressiveness, it expanded on the environment, the Eddie boss fight is a million times better. You have to actually be careful instead of standing in one spot and bonking him on the head as he aimlessly runs in a small circle. All the boss battles are better tbh. The atmosphere is equal level. And modern visuals.
Don’t listen to haters. If you haven’t already pick the remake up. It’s phenomenal.
@@GugureSuxcope and seethe. Let others enjoy what they want. The remake improved many things. You’re just jaded. Much better acting than this goofy stuff. Enemies are more aggressive and smarter, combat is much better. Story is just as engaging and emotional as ever. Boss battles significantly improved. Especially Eddie. You have to actually be skillful and careful now. No more just going bonk on his head as he aimlessly runs in a small circle. The sound design tool what this did and upped it to a whole new level.
This is the best (and for me the only) ending. James was called to Silen Hill to atone for his sins and die in peace at the end.
im came here after finishing silent hill 2 remake
2:52:00 I love how after the little shriek, James turns around and leaves LOL
3:32 The remake has fixed camera behind James.
This is far far better
Agreed. The generic OTS view really kills the beautiful in-game cinematography, and results tons of artificial handholding being implemented in the game.
4:18:44 does anyone know the name of this song please i really need i it i can’t find anything
Thanks for this video it helped me alot and got me through the game fast and enjoyably
does anyone know the name of the song from the soundtrack that starts playing at 3:11?
"the forest trail" if you're still wondering :)
@@siz4rr thankyou so much!!! :))
Quick question. Why are you constantly trying to use and examine Angela’s knife?! Or have I not reached the end of the story to know yet?
Thank you for this video. 🙏🙏🙏
After All this years i still Crying When Mary said : James You made me Happy 😭
Is this from the hd collection? Or just a scaled up improved ps2 version
It’s silent hill enhanced edition
A project enhanced version of the game on PC
It's the original PC port (yes, 2-4 were multiplat already 20 years ago), with the fan-made Enhanced Edition mod, that makes it easier to run on modern systems + makes it work in widescreen, alongside with many bug fixes and enhancements. It is arguably the definitive way of playing the SH2, right after owning a real CRT + PS2 of course.
2:54:30 What OST track is this?
pro tip: if you knock out your enemy to the ground, don't hit with the pipe, kick it pressing x without r2, it kills instantly, also you can directly kick those cockroaches and then it dies with only one kick.
Ty for walkthrough without commentary
Just finished this game for the sixth time, forgot about the long dialogue that Mary gave to James at the end. What a sad game. I will play these games for the rest of my life. This game has the saddest ending, but I still say that Origins and 3 are the scariest SH games, and Origins is my favorite one too.

The graphics upgrade and fog compared to SH1 looks less scary..
This game is more depressing than horror like sh 1 and 3
SH2 has always been considered less outright scary, and definitely one of the easiest games in the series.
Those graphics for this time were great!
Who’s playing the remake this fall? I know I am. Part 2 is my favorite of the franchise and my favorite horror game of all time.
The remake looks terrible so I'm not
The DEI-make is fucking garbage. Every single worst fear of any SH fan, come true.
this game = 10/10 masterpiece imo.
in my top 5 games all time
Are you going to play the silent hill 2 remake when it comes out?
2:14:48 when I saw Laura walking outside. I was so angry of her that I was shooting out the window
Surprisingly the remake did the abstract daddy sequence way better
The remake did that even better
why is no one asking where did the pizza come from? 1:26:00 😂😂😂
beautiful game
I've been intrigued by this game since I was a kid. For some reason I've never played it, only watched it yet I can never remember much about it even after watching the whole thing a few times now.
DAMN just finished the remake and was interested in the og and im so sad the great knife was pretty much cut ☹️☹️ that woulda been so fun to use
2:57:57 idk how james can walk with this giant sword on his pocket
Does anyone know if you can check the trunk of James’ car in the very beginning, or any other point in the game? If it says anything when you try to open it at all?
Funny how people are crying about how James is copying Leon in the remake when this game came out first. It was Leon who changed his whole burnette hair and style to match James. :D
what was the reason for examining angelas knife 100 times?
to get the preferred ending
