    I have watched numerous Kilimanjaro videos and yours thus far has been by far the best I’ve viewed. The quality and time you took to capture the beauty of the hike and the adventure was amazing. Thank you! I really feel like I was there with you!

    Fantastic. I liked that you focused on the stunning visual beauty first with less commentary and then ended with an informative and helpful summary. Eventhough I’m still 4 years away from the trip it’s fun to start preparing and dreaming. Cheers.

    It’s been just a month since I summited Mt. Kilimanjaro and also have documented my experience, not in complete video of course. More the reason when this video just popped up I wanted to watch it and just did! It made me feel like I’m reliving my Killi trek. The visual quality and the interesting captures of beauty of the hike and the adventure is amazing.
    I have watched numerous Kilimanjaro videos prior to my trip. But found this the most authentic experience ever told / documented in ASMR style. LOVED IT! Thank you for this !

    Amazing video. The best one on Kili climb I have watched so far. Informative. Great photography. Clear description. Unbiased. It will serve me well on our Kilimanjaro climb in 2 weeks. Quick question: how many power banks you carried with you and which ones were those? I am worried about running out of juice while on the trek.
    Thank You Jonathan.

    • @JonathanLundmark
      @JonathanLundmark  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! What a compliment, much appreciated.
      Regarding power banks I use these (Amazon UL Powerbank Affiliate Links)
      5 x 10.000 mAh amzn.to/3KqZ1po
      1 x 20.000 mAh amzn.to/3WZlfWU
      (They specialize in being very light weight and have a good price/weight ratio)
      On top of above I carried all of which were fully charged during the start of hike.
      5 x GH5 Camera Battery (For main video camera)
      2 x GoPro Camera Battery (For secondary video camera)
      The above battery-loadout was sufficient for me with some juice left in one of the smaller power banks and a few camera batteries (Every day I used up about 1-2 camera batteries which I recharged + my phone)

    Great video. I am part of a group that leaves 5 weeks from today for our 8-day Lemosho route led by CK. Quick question. Can you share what tipping was like? Please.

    • @JonathanLundmark
      @JonathanLundmark  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi and thank you!
      I don’t remember the exact figures I’m afraid but what I do know is the following;
      It’s different per group and it is calculated based on how many you are in the same group with the recommended tip being higher per person if you are fewer people in the group. This is because the amount of crew needed for a larger group is not linear (2x the size of a group does not mean 2x staff, as an example you don’t need 1 extra chef per hiker) - due to this the amount will differ for you.
      You will be given a tip-range from low to high following their formula ahead of the hike during the check-in, and there is an ATM by the hotel to withdraw cash if needed. Even after the hike you can make a stop to withdraw cash if needed.
      The tip is given by the group together in an envelope at the end of the hike and you will all agree in the group what to give and then give the same amount which will then be distributed by the company to the full crew involved following a predefined ”formula”
      I THINK I gave something like ~200USD but I don’t remember exactly unfortunately.

      We summited 3 weeks ago via the same route, thrilled to share your excitement, experience and achievement!
      Tips are the only other way these fabulous guides and their porter/chef team are going to earn their livelihoods in many cases, so a little more goes a long way. We put in $300/hiker and donated many of our equipment to the porters and guides..
      We requested our guides to hand out the money but it was set on paper on an excel sheet our company (Good Earth Tours, who are incredible, btw) provided so there is clarity and no conflict after.

    The 4K quality is spectacular! What lens did you use with the GH5? Also, how difficult was the descent on your knees and ankles?

      @JonathanLundmark  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@EdGein_ Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :) 2 lenses, panasonic 12-35 and 7-14.
      Descent from the top was OK! You hike down a less rocky path going down from the peak, more like sand dunes so quite smooth.

    Hi loved your video! I’m going in December - do you recommend renting a duffle bag or buying one? I’m unsure as to which one to get I saw you had a north face one- what was the litre? An do u reccommend a lock to?

    • @JonathanLundmark
      @JonathanLundmark  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi and thank you!
      Duffle Bag: It depends I’d say… I kind of like having a high quality duffle bag to use for similar trips ahead, long term saving money and quite nice in general for any kind of non-airplane travels too or sport events as you can wear it on the back even though it’s a big volume (95L). But if you plan to only use it once then you might as well rent one!
      Some additional information is that the porters will pack your bag(s) in a waterproof bag that is carried, so having a waterproof duffel bag (as in our case) was hence a bit overkill and not needed.

    • @JonathanLundmark
      @JonathanLundmark  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bag Lock: I’d say not a requirement, I only used it because I already had the possibility to prevent the fly from opening by mistake. With that said, the fly on my duffel was already ”protected” so probably a bit overkill.
      Regarding safety and ensuring nothing is stolen, I think that if you go with a serious and enstablished tour guide company, they have a huge incentive to ensure nothing like that happens as these companies rely on positive experiences by their client. But if it helps you worry less throughout the hike when departed from your bag and if you store valuables, then using a lock might be a good Idea and I think a code-lock is safer for a hike than risking losing a key :)
