In this month's Professor Shred, Guthrie Govan gives you the keys to using four fingers to tap arpeggios, and shows you how to play the main lick to his song "Sevens." - บันเทิง
"you might wanna check if you can do that"
Guthrie I don't need to check
Same thought man, same thought
Haha yeah I checked just ro confirm that I can't
I love how he does his demonstrations clean and not distorted. Not too many people do that.
I've been working on a technique where I use my nose as an eleventh finger
I have been working on something similar! As the human capo
I use my bird !!
Check out andre nieri a tune called oceans ;)
*searches for the LOL icon*
😂😂😂
I not only love Guthrie's playing and writing, but also his dry brit sense of humor.
I agree with Ian
Erotic Cakes is a masterpiece. It’s the pinnacle of fusion guitar creativity and precision. The only other album that comes close in the genre is Powers Of Ten by Shawn Lane. This whole masterclass was eye opening
He is so good, and so good at explaining how to use things as well. Guthrie really is a wizard!
This guy must love Jazz music...every lesson I hear of him, I hear jazzy touches in his playing
socrates once said: the more I know, the more I realise how little I know! Guthrie is living proof of that! every one of his videos opens up new possibilities for me! thanx for your generosity Guthrie! long live the king!!!
what an intresting and inspiring teacher......he leads you to love...to need the instrument in the most natural way, he convinces you that if you want it seriously...you can do it......
That sound, its so bright, spacy and wonderful. Thank you Guthrie, for this marvelous lick!!
Every video by this guy sparks my creativity and gives me something new to add to various songs. What a great teacher! More please!
I've had the privilege of meeting Guthrie on multiple occasions, he's such a great guy, really willing to share his knowledge of guitar technique and ability. Great video!
"Bit of a tap-dance." See what you did there Guthrie.
This guy is the only guitar player I can watch the whole lesson videos for. Captivating...
Amazing stuff. Love these Professor Shred videos
When he started playing the suspended arpeggio, I just smiled.
2:37 I can't imagine the emergencies he must experience
Geez, this guys command of English is almost as impressive as his guitar virtuosity.
***** I think he was an English major - something I heard in an interview.....
+GiBi del Barrio at Oxford (the dark place, speaking from a Cambridge viewpoint :P )
Idk man that's probably the most beautiful playing I've ever seen and heard then again...
I've thought the same! ;)
Exactly I was thinking the same thing. He's a very good teacher. And a very good player
As always thanks for sharing the guitar world video
John
Love his techniques, their awesome and inspiring.
Your videos are really good! Very useful! Thank you!
Such a beautiful set of notes.
Hey Guthrie, thank-you sincerely for your time performing these highly informative segments.
Clicked Like before I watched. I've read the column and was waiting for this lick!
the way Guthrie explains things, man...that stoic calm and patience...priceless, I'd love to be his apprentice :D
You are a god my good sir, excellence is not enough to compliment your immense talent
I love this guy
"It gets a bit hairy there," *mass of curly hair hanging around the fretboard*
I love this guys lessons,he does them so well and they're always killer licks. This one is beyond me though, very alien to me.I sound like a first yr player trying this one:-)
"Basic technique"
basic does not mean simple or easy... Its a base of a certain technique and if the technique is difficult then the base will also be pretty difficult
By far my favorite guitar world lessons
I love Your work man! Keep playing!
"And you are doing this \m/ the whole time which is always fun" You are my hero
Great lesson from a teacher that shares... thanks
@museken
What are you talking about? He has written an album. He's also appeared on other albums and toured with big name musicians. He's also known as one of the best guitarists of our time.
This guy is amazing! Gonna go look up some of his music now :)
As soon saw this my day was made....
just glad to be here :)
Really cool stuff
That arpeggio from sevens is kick ass. Guthrie Govan, saviour of the masses.
1:05 Jenova? FFVII?
i'd like to say that they're both great and that there is no better, i like them for their respective styles.
He is just amazing, even more than that !!!
No one comes even close to Guthrie when it comes to musical diversity! This maniac plays everything from Jazz, to Ballet 😁
"It get a bit hairy there" "But let me show you how I can play it perfectly" lol This guy is amazing! One of my favorites!
God's joke at our expense
+eragon2121 I think I died a little
SO MUCH MASTER CLASS FOR FINISH DOING A THING THAT ISN´T ROCK. GOVAN DOESN´T DO ROCK. STOP CALLING ROCK WHAT IS NOT ROCK!!
what is rock?
great lick! :D
He's an absolute hero.
@mistermoshpit101 2.5 years is not a long time. youve barely scratched the surface of how good youre going to get, have patience and keep learning, listening and practicing
@rollandrock99 It's the backing for Waves from his solo album 'Erotic Cakes', the same song that has the insane harmonised run that's also in the intro.
Amazing!
I was given a lesson by Andy James once and he told me Guthrie was better than all other guitarists he has seen, and yes, I did say 'even Gilbert, even Vai'.
he's amazing
Honestly the string dampener is the biggest part of making tapping parts work. There is a technique to making strings ring less but it helps so much.
What a bloke!!
Man this guy is so funny, I'm loving this : )
@leckal it's his track, waves (including the mind melting shred in the beginning) although this is the backing track version as the solo continues on top of that.
Hello noob hear on reverbs. I wanted to know what TYPE of reverb is he using? Spring, Plate, Room, Hall etc. thanks
index finger as a damper + other fingers on fretboard + taping with different fingers ... now that's crazy discipline
@MrClaptonstrat same here, I love this guy!
kinda sounds like the beginning of Street Fighter 2.

pure guitar geniusness
è un mostro
That guy is a genious that wants others to be able to thrive and improve on the knowledge he gathered and created. Talk about a rare individual
That's such a beautiful tone. What equipment was used?
pretty good stuff. But if you go back the tapping stuff from the "Sheehan" solo from the "sink your teeth into that" by Talas, Billy sheehan does this idea. He holds the chord with the left, but simply taps all with the index finger. He can't get the staccato effect, but very close to the same idea.
this guy is genius
1:20 he's playing a japanese scale called hirajoshi...
very cool!
@Maxmaxz Waves, from the Erotic Cakes album
***** he also does lectures at the ACM which is another music college, which I'm going to later this year. Hopefully he'll be back soon haha
@toranuguitars Yeah, it's similar to the Capcom into, which was used on a lot of Capcom games on snes, not just sf2.
My mom takes lessons from him too!
COOL!
He's the best of th best in modern our time=)
That... is.... so.... clean!
Your son is going to be one hell of a guitar player
hes always trippy to look at
He is such a lovely man 😊
That lick is simply delicious and would fit so well in a spacey science fiction….let’s say Logan’s Run. I then label the “Logan’s Run”
Anyone know where that suspended part starts? ...sounded so nice.
@TheBeardedBundy oddly enough you can search on youtube and find a lesson by Guthrie about 'pirate scales' or something like that.
@museken ummmm are you talking about Guthrie? He does unleash... on his Erotic Cakes album which he wrote. I suggest you check it out it's mind-blowing.
Nice great
your very good on that guitar though wow
Brilliant comment, I know what you mean. His voice gives you a great feeling just like his music does
I'm way not good enough to play this shit, but it's just fun to see him talk and be awesome..
WHAT A FUCKING LEGEND, FUNNY AS HELL AND BETTER THAN MOST.. BY FAR!
Genius.
@marcussilvamgs Dr Govan is credited with discovering the Laws of Shred.
this should be weekly
he is an alien im glad he jams holy shit
God dammit .. literally the first 16 notes he played melted my face
@FusionRoots1 The Middle section of "Waves" from his "Erotic Cake" Album :)
I LOVE YOU GUTHRIE!!!!!!! :-)
@MorganRNReid he didn't... he just said that he doesnt play metal OR shred... so i think he implied that guthrie is a shredder (which he is) :D
such a perfect comment
How can i buy the magazine with the figures? The link is too old nowadays
lol at 4:50 "That's mine, you need to come up with yours!" What a legend!
Wow! your son is a very very lucky guy!
@BRADARISTA he is the best, period.
i dont understand how can someone dislike this video... seriously wtfff?
